Microsoft OS/2 bugfixes (from Ed Durrant)
Windows 2000 SP3 contains some fixes for OS/2 Warp Clients and Servers.
First fix is "Windows 2000 Clients Use Multiple Connections When Mapping Drives to a Single Server". This will hopefully clear up the issue of Win2K clients eating up all workstation connections to a WSeB server. We will investigate this further.
Second fix is "Stop 0x00000050 Error Message During Copy from OS/2 Clients". This issue occurs because a request from the client (SMB Move) is not handled correctly.

New presentations for Warpstock 2002 (US) (from Luc Van Bogaert)
Time is running out on our sale on registration at the Warpstock Store on BAMart (Bank of America eStores). You only have less than 3 weeks to register at the reduced rate! Don't Delay Register Today!
Time is also running out on reserving a room at the 4 star Renaissance Hotel in Austin. Our block of rooms and rate is only assured until September 13th. The hotel is expected to be completely booked that weekend due to weddings and such, so make sure that you have a room and that you can enjoy all the after-hours discussions that are so much a part of Warpstock as the presentations and giveaway.
Four new presentations have been added to the Warpstock 2002 schedule:
  • Migrating from NetBios to TCPbeui, by Oliver Mark.
  • OS/2 Device Driver Programming - What You Don't Find In The Books, by Daniela Engert.
  • Remote-booting eComStation from eComStation, by Micho Durdevich.
  • Remote-booting Windows And Linux from eComStation, by Micho Durdevich.
Also note this important scheduling change as well:
  • Java 2 Standard Edition, release 1.4 by Greg Shaw.
Find out how this very important announcement is going to effect you.
While IBM is reviewing it's storerooms for OS/2 stuff to giveaway, take a look at all the speakers they sent us! We will be the first event where you can talk to Greg Shaw from Golden Code regarding the Java 1.4 release which should make OS/2 J2EE compatible. We all need to know where Mozilla is going, so Mike Kaply of IBM and Achim Hasenmueller of Innotek will tell us how this important development will proceed in the future.
If you use ATAPI/IDE devices and were unable to install OS/2, the chances are that you owe a debt of gratitude to this person: Daniela Engert author of the very popular 'DANI' device drivers that have made OS/2 compatible with hundreds of computers that IBM didn't support. Daniela is making her second visit to Warpstock in the US, and this time she will be telling us about her experience in developing OS/2 device drivers. Even if you don't program device drivers, you should come on down and say thanks to Daniela. We also expect Timur to continue his regular device driver series.
We have also narrowed down our search for where to have the Warpstock Saturday Night Social. It should be Texas-style BBQ! And because we should be traveling a bit out of Austin, and the places are small, we will NOT sell more than 50 tickets to this event, so book it soon at our e-store.
If you want to learn the latest information about OS/2 and eComStation, then come to Warpstock 2002, which this year is taking place in the home of OS/2 development. Warpstock will take place the weekend of October 5-6, 2002 in Austin, Texas at the Renaissance Austin Hotel. You can find the complete presentation schedule as well as event registration and hotel reservation information at our web site: <http://www.warpstock.org>.
Warpstock, Inc., is a North Carolina corporation. The Warpstock annual conference is a gathering of OS/2 users, developers, and vendors from around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More information is available at the Warpstock web site : <http://www.warpstock.org>

Warpstock (EU): Somehow different (from Gerrit Schoenmaker)
Why is Warpstock Europe 2002 in the Netherlands somewhat different?

Location and lodging
Reading the header you may wonder what makes this years Warpstock event so special compared to all other ones. Well, let me explain it to you! As a matter of fact each Warpstock conference is special and no one in particular. However the only thing which could be different to your experience is the location! This time the organization team has chosen a lovely Youth Hostel at Arnhem in Holland. You will find its cosy atmosphere only at your own home and last but not least it's situated in a very nice wooded environment. So, you will not be lost in space and look to no end for big concrete lecturerooms with very high ceilings this time. The purpose of all this is to give you as a participant the right facility to exchange knowledge and to get in touch with other (famous) OS/2 enthusiasts. If you never have been at a Warpstock event in the past, this year it's really worth a try.
If you prefer to stay at the Youth Hostel during the event, you can check out availability and make an online booking request on http://www.njhc.nl/english/start.cfm?id=6 . The organization team has made some reservations in advance, so you have to check in as "Warpstock participant".
Booking requests for a real Hotels in Arnhem and its surroundings can be made at http://www.bookings.nl .

The money
Another reason why you should come over to Holland and visit Warpstock Europe 2002 on the 8th - 10th November, is to save money. All prices are including a delicious lunch each day of your stay and an early registration for three days will be 30 Euro only!!! Furthermore there is already a bed & breakfast at the Hostel for 22 Euro (about 22 US dollars).
You will find everything about the online registration and prices on the Warpstock Europe website http://warpstock.os2.org/en/registration and on http://shop.mensys.nl/catalogue/mns_WarpStockEurope2002.html
All prices mentioned here are only relevant to online registration until 1 week prior to the event. Of course, you are allowed to check in at the registration desk on the event itself, however it will cost you more money. Actually, this means that all prices after the 1st of november will be raised with 5 Euro.
This is quite clear if one considers for one thing that registration during the event takes a lot of time and for another that it would be very convenient to us to know the amount of visitors in advance.
So, if you want the right lunch at the very right moment, do your Warpstock registration on line.

Easy way to get there, Holland is a very small country, so there is no need to travel so much.

If you travel by:
Plain - please go to Amsterdam Airport (Schiphol) and from there it's most convenient to travel by train to the city of Arnhem. You can get information about trains in Holland from http://www.ns.nl/domestic/index.cgi . You will arrive at the Arnhem Centralstation and from there take bus nr 3 to Alteveer/Burgers Zoo and leave the bus at "Rijnstaete Hospital" busstop. Finally, you have to walk a little wile, following the green NJHC "Alteveer" signs.
Car - take the highway A12 towards Arnhem and leave the highway at exit nr. 26 to Arnhem-North. At first follow the signs to the so called "Burgers Zoo" and when you see those typical green NJHC signs along the road you have to follow them. On http://warpstock.os2.org you will find a nice picture of this sign.
Train - from Germany and Swiss etc. you have many possibilities. One of them is to take a train to Cologne and from there the International ICE train to Amsterdam. Take a look at http://www.bahn.de for those special ICE trains to Amsterdam which stop in Arnhem too. If you are traveling from France or Belgium, the easiest way for you is to travel via Bruxelles, Rotterdam and Utrecht to Arnhem. The special "Thallys" train to Amsterdam, which stops in Rotterdam, is an excellent choice in that case.
See you on Nov 8th - 10th at Warpstock Europe 2002 at Arnhem, The Netherlands!

Less then two months to Warpstock (from Luc Van Bogaert)
There's just 30 days until the Early Bird Registration Ends. Register now for Warpstock 2002 before the deadline! We've posted most of our speaker schedule on line and we're scouring Austin for a great place to hang on Saturday night. Visit our eStore http://bamart.com/Warpstockinc to use your Visa/Mastercard to make a secure purchase without the extra fees that Paypal or Billpoint can charge.

If you look at our schedule, http://www.warpstock.org/2002/presentations.html , you'll see that this year's Warpstock has some surprises in store for you. What will "The Miracle" actually be? A video DVD player? Extended service for the OS/2 user? A cell phone that runs OS/2 rather than Windows or Palm OS? OS/2's Open Sourcing by IBM? Full compatibility with MS Office XP? OS/2 running on a 64-bit processor? Whatever "The Miracle" is, Warpstock attendees will be the first to know. If you don't believe in Miracles, then you should be attending our other sessions where you will be able to see the latest demonstrations of NetLabs and Innotek's products for OS/2, and other great products for network and enterprise management from Golden Code and Starfire. Use eCS? Kim and Bob are going to be telling us all about what's in store for the next release of eCS.

Warpstock is the best place to find out what is going on with OS/2 and to meet and talk with all the people you have only met online. If you have not attended Warpstock in the past, this is the year you should make every effort to attend.

Warpstock 2002 will be held the weekend of October 5th and 6th, at the Renaissance Austin Hotel in Austin Texas. Austin is the home of the IBM OS/2 development group, so many of the people that work on and support
OS/2 will be in attendance and giving presentations this year.

A special conference rate of $129 for single/double room night is available to those who use the "Warpstock 2002" event code when making reservations. This rate is good for up to 3 days prior and 3 days after the event weekend. The Warpstock room block is only guaranteed until September 13th though, so please don't delay. You can make reservations by calling 1-800-HOTELS-1 (1-800-228-9290) or direct at 1-512-343-2620.

Early registration for both days will be $70. This price is valid until 4 weeks prior to the event. After September 7th, registration will be $95 for the two day conference. A one day price of $70 is also available. But by registering early you get both Warp packed days for the price of a one day admission.
You can register online at <http://bamart.com/Warpstockinc> or as in the past you can mail in your check (or even cheque) or moneyorder payable to "Warpstock, Inc" at

Warpstock Austin volunteers update (from Luc Van Bogaert)
Randy Loflin has agreed to take on the job of volunteer coordinator for Warpstock 2002. This year Warpstock is going to be held at the Austin Renaissance Hotel in Austin Texas, October 5-6. If you are planning on coming, and you would like to help out at the event, Randy would like to hear from you.
We need volunteers to help man the registration table, the Warpstock booth, act as room monitors, help with the network setup, help with the exhibition hall setup and breakdown. You don't have to be local to the Austin area to help in these areas.
Volunteers who contribute at least two hours of their time during the weekend receive a free Warpstock shirt and the eternal gratitude of those who attend the event. Without the volunteers, the show would not be a success.
If you can help, please let us know by sending an email to warpstock-team@warpstock.org. You can also use the online form at http://www.warpstock.org/2002/volunteer_form.html
Make sure you let us know that you are interested in volunteering and what position you may be interested in helping with. (When you notify us in advance of your plan to help we can make sure we order the correct size and number of shirts, and we can better coordinate the event.)
For more on Warpstock 2002 please see our web page at <http://www.warpstock.org> where you can find more information about hotel reservations and a preliminary list of scheduled sessions.
