Uno Fixpak 3 for eComStation 2.x (Posted by Eugene Gorbunoff)
The Fixpack contains fixes and useful utilities for eComStation operating system.

Installation:
* Download ecs2-uno-fixpak3-xxxxxxxx.wpi package
* Start installation of .wpi package
* During installation select: Overwrite all, Unlock All

System requirements:
* eComStation 2.0, 2.1, 2.2
* Disk space: 10 Mb

Feedback from users:
* It's not easy to select what modules to include to the fixpak.
There is no need to install all files from hobbes. On the other side,
the fixpak should contain important apps and utils.
* We are collecting all suggestions what fixes/utils to include to the Fixpak.

eComStation Left/Right: Graphics setup utilities (Posted by Eugene Gorbunoff)
What direction to select? How eCS will grow?
* Keep all setup utilities as is,
save new settings to CONFIG.SYS and os2*.ini files?
* Or all properties / settings should be available through
graphics utility? All undocumented settings should be available too?

Our opinion:
Simple users will continue to use eCS if we collect all settings to
one application with graphics user interface.

What to include to Demo-CD (Posted by Eugene Gorbunoff)
What applications do you recommend?
What applications to include to eComStation Demo-CD?

"It should be graphically rich, with many different screen styles,
games, tricks and hooks. We need something to get people hooked and talking about it. Even if it's a stupid gimmick."

The applications should demonstrate the power and functionality
of eComStation. Demonstrate hardware compatibility and technologies supported.

There should be some objects in the folders,
so users can click and watch something, close in 1-5 minutes.

* History: Include a flash demo (or slides) with History of eComStation / IBM OS/2 Warp.

* Games: Mars and Sunny pills -- http://ecomstation.ru/ecobaby

* System information..
include an utility which shows information about the PC
and writes what hardware is supported / not supported by eCS

Invest into eCo Software (Posted by Eugene Gorbunoff)
eCo Software is working on eComStation / IBM OS/2 Warp market
during 10 years. We are specialized in development of native software (or hybrids).

We have so many ideas how to improve eComStation.
You can influence on the development and invest into short-term projects:

* (PM) Replace old Message boxes with Modern Message boxes.
To modernize eComStation it's necessary update User Interface.
This improvement may refresh the desktop significantly.
Experience: We have experience with replacement of File Open Dialog.

* (WPS) Create new Task list (with large icons),
so new users feel comfortable and understand
what apps are running.
Experience: We have updated Launchpad in the past (Piano Launchpad)

* (SYSINFO) Migrate assistant - collector of information from old system.
We see that users don't have time to migrate to new versions,
as result they can't use the latest features.
Experience: we have functions aimed to collect system information.

* (LIP) Language Interface packs (LIP) are aimed
to switch system to other language.
Important to attract more people from different countries.
Experience: We have created several LIP packs.

* (NET) Improve VNC server/client, make it work faster, improve UI.
so the admins can manage remote systems with comfort.
Experience: We have experience with video drivers filters, VNC compilation.

OS/2 Book at Hobbes (Posted by Sergey Posokhov)
OS/2 API Research book, written in Russian (cyrillic), is available from Hobbes:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php?key=os2book
Now it's version 4.4.4, released at 2012-12-12 :-)

This is the complete reference and tutorial for Control Program and Presentation Manager programming. Alongside with CP/PM API, this book describes modern Warp 4.5 Addendum API, eToolkit / libKVA / LANGE API and low-level DDK functions. Moreover, it shows possible roadmap of OS/2 development towards functional programming and microkernel architecture.

Latest changes: more about Rexx language (generic calculations, higher-order functions, macro commands), more about microkernels (such as L4 from the University of Karlsruhe).

The book is distributed in two file formats: INF (the original OS/2 e-book file format) and FictionBook2 (plain XML with embedded pictures).

Week of i3/i5/i7 barebones, notebooks and servers (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

The next week is dedicated to collection of info about compatible/non-compatible barebones, notebooks and servers based on Intel Core i3/i5/i7.

Our database contains 372 records of notebooks and servers: http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php

and 286 records about motherboards: http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php

Major part of the models are not manufactured anymore. Post new reports using the web-form

http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php

ACPI.PSD version and switches? Which version of ACPI.PSD doesn’t work on this motherboard?

Which applications/drivers are not ready for this family of CPUs?

New USB host controller drivers: usbhcd178.zip (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

I have updated the USB host controller drivers USBUHCD. SYS,USBOHCD.SYS, USBEHCD.SYS
I have now placed these on hobbes.

http://http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/incoming/usbhcd178.zip

They will eventually make it into directory:
/pub/os2/system/drivers/misc

I have now READDED USBD.SYS. It’s experimental. Don’t expect too much but you may want to give feedback.
If it doesn’t work, back out to USBD.SYS 10.162 and retry with the new
HC drivers before you report any bug against the HC drivers (USBUHCD.SYS,USBOHCD.SYS,USBEHCD.SYS) themselves !

The biggest fix: http://class='extlink'http://svn.netlabs.org/usb/ticket/9

I still have problems with OHCI driver. You need to have a device attached on a OHCI port in order for getting the HC to work.
The data transfer as such works ok. I am working on the issue.
Unfortunately there is no real good information on how to properly initialize the HC and the ports. I am looking into the Linux and Apple
code.

e-ball Awards 2011 competition (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

Do we manufacture something useful or consume (im)ported software only?

Here is the list of nominated applications:

* sorted listed -- http://ecomstation.ru/projects/awards/

* unsorted list -- http://ecomstation.ru/projects/awards/

What is e-ball Awards? Competition of drivers and applications.

Best applications.. best drivers..

It is sometimes equivalent to ’most surprising’, ’most subversive’,

’most promising’, ’most unnerving’, ’most opportune’, ’most happening’.

Post your nominations -- http://ecomstation.ru/projects/awards/

via web-form -- http://ecomstation.ru/support.php

We accept nominations before the end of december.

New USB host controller drivers: usbhcd177.zip (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

I have updated the USB host controller drivers USBUHCD.SYS, USBOHCD.SYS, USBEHCD.SYS

I have now placed these on hobbes.

http://http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php?key=usbhcd177.zip

They will eventually make it into directory:
/pub/os2/system/drivers/misc

I have now REMOVED USBD.SYS from the zip. Please revert back to the original 10.162 driver from IBM.
USBD.SYS still needs some effort to make it match with 10.162 driver.
This is a quick redelivery for those experiencing traps when enabling tracing for USBEHCD.SYS.
A couple of minor changes. See enclosed readme.txt.

Admin: Problems with the News submission system (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

If anyone has sent any announcements to the VOICE News Service in the past 4 or 5 days and hasn’t seen it come through on the mail list or the associated web sites, can you please resubmit.  The problem is fixed now, but I’m told that quite a few messages in the queue were completely blank so we have no idea if they were SPAM or real announcements.  I apologize for the inconvenience and the delay.

eCo-Books from eCo Software (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

eCo Software continues to sell Thinkpad notebooks with eComStation pre-installed.

We offer the range: Thinkpad T42 ... T61 + X61 Tablet and X41 ... X61 + X41 Tablet.

All notebooks are equipped with SSD disks and popular eCo Software applications:

* Sunny icons -- http://ecomstation.ru/sunnyicons

* DVD/CD Toys -- http://ecomstation.ru/dvdtoys

* Backup utility -- http://ecomstation.ru/varenye

It’s not easy to sell eCS notebooks, we are missing some tools.

What applications are needed for the resellers of eComStation notebooks and barebones?

* Benchmark tools. The customers want see the comparison marks.

 * Good SysInfo utility. We have old SysInfo/2 only.

 * Demo applications aimed to demonstrate the power of the system.

(apps working in demo mode; video effects / slideshows enumerating eCS features)

 * Fullscreen launchpad. So novice user can launch standard application (email, browser or setup)

 * Simple system setup. Currently eCS setup utilities are located in different "corners" of the system.

The standalone developers can help to the resellers of eCS notebooks / barebones and develop additional tools.

More ideas for standalone developers: http://ecomstation.ru/ecolabs2/

Admin: Problem with VOICE News submission address (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

There has been a problem for several days now where news submissons to the submit@os2voice.org email address are not being processed by our News system. We are not sure when the problem began, but we had hoped this would be cleared up quickly. Unfortunately that is not the case. This problem also probably affects posting to comp.os.os2,announce. For now the only way to submit news that is working is the submission form at http://http://www.os2voice.org/SubmitNews.html  If you absolutely can not use this form, then send the announcement directly to http://madodel(at)ptd.net but because of the large amount  of spam, this may be missed.

 When this problem is fixed we will put out an announcement. We apologize for any missed announcements do to this problem.

New USB host controller drivers: usbhcd13.zip (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

I have updated the USB host controller drivers
USBUHCD.SYS,USBOHCD.SYS,USBEHCD.SYS, USBD.SYS
I have now placed these on hobbes.
They will eventually make it into directory:
/pub/os2/system/drivers/misc

Search Hobbes: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/h-search.php

I have now added USBD.SYS.
I worked on USBEHCD:SYS suspend/resume
I worked on device attach/detach processing to make device attach more responsive and stable
I worked on the /FS flag for USBUHCD.SYS,USBOHCD.SYS,USBEHCD.SYS:
if your system hangs on shutdown or if it hangs on boot you may want to try these flags on all 3 types. /FS stands for "force shutdown".
What it means is that the host controller is stopped on OS shutdown which might eliminate some problems

For the future, please place your bug reports here if possible:
http://svn.netlabs.org/usb/report
DONT forget to always mention WHAT VERSION of the driver you are experiencing problems with !

ERACC On-Line Shopping has a New Look (Newsreader news.warpevents.eu/)

Hi All,

In preparation to upgrade our shopping site from Drupal 6 with Ubercart 6 to Drupal 7 with Ubercart 7 in the future, I switched to a new Drupal theme on our site in August. This did cause a few visual anomalies with the old shop entries. I think I finally have those all cleared up and the site seems more visually appealing to me now. However, I am not truly an objective judge since it is my own company site.

If you have not visited http://class='extlink'http://shopping.eracc.com/ in a while, please come visit and look things over. If you see anything that needs my attention to clean it up, send a message with the subject "ERACC OLS" to http://class='mailtolink'webmaster@eracc.com and tell me about it. Or you can use the contact form: http://class='extlink'http://shopping.eracc.com/contact and choose "Site Questions, Comments, Suggestions" from the Category drop down list on the form page.

If you just want to see the eComStation part of the catalog, that is here: http://class='extlink'http://shopping.eracc.com/catalog/computer-software/ecomstation

Thanks for your time!
