Let's gather solutions based on eComStation (Newsreader www.os2news.com)
Whatsnew:
* PBX on eComStation -- private phone network of arbitrary size with a central controlling unit (Germany, WS IT-Service and Logic Consult GmbH) -- http://ecomstation.ru/showarticle.php?id=152
* Oz. Of Prevention System -- Computerized Maintenance Management System (Aviar, USA) -- http://ecomstation.ru/showarticle.php?id=151
* eComStation is more favourable for enterprises than Windows (russian text).
* The largest interactive FM radio stations in Russia are using technology based on eComStation. Here is the overview on russian language: Interactive FM radiostations in Russia. 'Interactive' means that listeners are sending SMS/email/phone messages to RadioDJ and his guests. SMSRC32 and eComStation are used to gather & process such SMS messages. (russian text, look at screenshots) -- http://ru.ecomstation.ru/showarticle.php?id=150

OS/2 (eComStation) is alive while people are using and improving the system. The developers of solutions ensure long life for our operating system because computers with OS/2 make money for their customers year by year. The developers bring new industrial technologies to OS/2, feed support service, fill OS/2 with unique features to keep the solutions competitive.

Examples of solutions based on OS/2: ATM, sound processing (speech, digital restoration of sound), training devices (astronauts, oilmen), technical appliances (measuring, medical), virtual machines (mainframes, SVISTA), CMMS, restaurants, etc.

Why should you write the story today?
* You should do this to protect your investments made into OS/2 platform.
* OS/2 users are located in different countries and cities. They will read the story because of OS/2 word :) And spread the information about your company and products among own colleagues.
* The developer of the operating system will get information about your requirements and improve OS to satisfy them.
* Your story gives stimulus to thousands of users, developers and companies.
* It's easy. Solution story is based on usual product flyer.

Where to collect solutions? www.ecomstation.ru site is hosting Solutions list since 2002. Yyou can publish german, dutch, english texts there.

How to write Solutions story? Take the flyer of your product, add Introduction, add one-two paragraphs about advantages of OS/2 usage, add 2 advertisement photos/screenshots, 2 screenshots of back-end demonstating usage of OS/2. Send the story to e-mail: support (at) ecomstation.ru

Welcome to homepage of solutions! -- http://ecomstation.ru/solutions/?action=solutions

OpenOffice.org 2.0.4. Support Agreement extended (Newsreader www.os2news.com)
A clarification with regard to the 'active Support Agreement' is called for:

'OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 for eComStation and OS/2 is available to all customers with an active OpenOffice.org Support Agreement.'

The initial duration of the agreement was 12 months, however, since the GA version of OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 has not been released before the first Support Agreements expired, the duration of the agreement has been extended
to match the releasedate of OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 for eComStation and OS/2 GA.

People who already purchased a Support Agreement Renewal will have the date on which that agreement start 'reset' to the releasedate of the GA version.

After the 2.0.4 release, the next available verion of OpenOffice.org for eComStation and OS/2 will be based on the official 2.2 release. Customers with an active Support Agreement at that time will be able to download and
beta-test this new version.

Hope this clarifies some of the questions that were raised by the recent expiring Support Agreements.

Best regards,

Serenity Systems International & Mensys BV

Last Minute Bounty for ZGV Picture Viewer (Newsreader www.os2news.com)
Paul Smedley is also near to claim the bounty for his port of ZGV Picture viewer 5.9 for OS/2-eCS You can still help by being a last minute sponsor and donating to support this port.
If you are interested to chipping in visit the ZGV Picture Viewer Bounty page at: http://www.os2world.com/cgi-bin/news/viewnews.cgi?category=57&id=1135053131 You can download the ZGV Viewer port and also put comments in the forum thread. http://www.os2world.com/cgi-bin/forum/UltraBoard.cgi?action=Read&BID=83&TID=18&SID=aRDJjkvmz1HcidLR
"zgv is a picture viewer with a thumbnail-based file selector, for the Linux and FreeBSD console (and now works under OS/2-eCS) (it uses svgalib). It"s pretty featureful, and is probably the best svgalib-based viewer. (It can also be built to use SDL if you prefer.) Lots of people have told me they like it, where "lots" = "oh, it must be at least two or three", and you can"t ask for a more ringing endorsement than that. Well, you could, but I"m not sure you"d get it. :-) " Official Web Site: http://www.svgalib.org/rus/zgv/ Thanks to OS2 User Group Sweden, Richard Steiner and all the sponsors at OS2World.com Bounty System.

New PMMail Project Mailing Lists (Newsreader www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Walter Metcalf < walter.os2DESPAM@DESPAMrogers.com > Hello everyone,
In order to lessen confusion in VOICE"s New PMMail Project, the mailing lists for the project have been changed as follows.
1) NewPMM changed into NewPMDis and made unmoderated.
Anyone can join by sending the following email to MajorMajor@os2voice.org:
SUBSCRIBE NEWPMDIS {email address) END This mailing list is open to anyone interested in supporting or following the New PMMail project.
2) There is a new, controlled NewPMDev list.
Closed List; restricted to Developers only.
"The new mailing list, NewPMDev is in fact UN-moderated, but CONTROLLED.
The VOICE NEWS is an example of a moderated list: the moderator, Mark Dodel, reviews, and sometimes edits, every message before posting.
There will be no such reviewing of messages posted to NewPMDev, so it is UNMODERATED.
It is CONTROLLED because the SUBSCRIBE command can only be used by the list"s owner, i.e. me: meaning that you have to send me a message to be added to the list. (Technically, it is the SUBSCRIBE command that is CONTROLLED.)
The mailing list NewPMDis is unmoderated and uncontrolled."
Everyone who was a member of NewPMM at Midnight June 7, has had their membership transfered to NewPMDis. NewPMM is now defunct.
*Moderated means that to join the list, you must email the moderator at walter dot os2 at rogers dot com, and ask to be added to the list.
If you have any questions about these new lists, please send an email to newpmdis at os2voice dot org or, as a last resort < g > to walter dot os2 at rogers dot com.
Thanks, Walter ***************************************** Walter F. Metcalf VOICE Vice-President Warpdoctor Co-ordinator walter dot os2 at rogers dot com *****************************************

OS2World.com Gaming Site Relaunched !!! (Newsreader www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Martin Iturbide (martinDESPAM@DESPAM.os2world.com) We had relaunched the OS2World.com Gaming Site using the Joomla CMS script.
Now I will be able to update the site in a more dinamic way. All the games of the old site had been migrated to this script and fixed a lot of dead links.
I also enhanced the Java and Odin games section, hoping that it will grow on the future. Plus I had added a new Emulation section that will eventually replace the OS/2 Emulation Site.
Let me know if I"m missing any game or any other Java and Odin game that you want to add on this site.
Any other help will be welcome too (like a little help with the Xfree86 games) Thanks Martin Iturbide.

Security Vulnerability with Fash 7a R15 / 19 and Howto implement the current Flash 7 version R61 (Posted by R) (edit by jcu)
Hello,

working with Flash release 5 is out of question. Just surf the web and the you will find, most of the flash "designed" web sides are not accessible to you.

Fortunately an improved port leaked to the real world.( flash7.zip flash7a.zip )

Be ware, the distribution of the Macromedia DLL is a licence/copyright violation.

The copyright of the interface DLL is by Innotek. ( My option on the legal situation )

The currently R19 ist the "used" version in the OS/2 world. This is highly dangerous!! Just one example:

http://www.tgdaily.com/2005/11/08/flash_highly_critical_vulnerability/

From version R19 to version R61 are quite a few numbers between! Howto upgrade your system to the current level of Version 7 Flash R61.

1. Download the Windows Version 7 from
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=d9c2fe33

2. Run the installation on your real or VPC guest windows system with
an installed Mozilla/Firefox browser.

3. Save the your current version

NPSWF2.DLL to NPSWFW2.sav
NPSWF32.DLL to NPSWF32.save

4. Replace the NPSWF32.DLL with the version from your wondows system
5. Modify NPSWF2.DLL an an HEX Editon ( e. g. HE2101 form Hobbes )

Replace string "r15" by "r61"
6. Comp NPSWF2.DLL and NPSWFW2.sav

The DLL should be equal the exception of on Byte.
7. shut down, reboot
8. Mozilla / Firefox About:plugins

should show the new verison R61
9. Test the Flash function with

http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/

Test: Macromedia Flash Player
The Flash version should be at R61

If you currently do not user the Mozilla / Firefox Extensions
- Adblock
- Flashblock

do an evalaation !!! I recommend the usage!!

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=10

http://flashblock.mozdev.org/installation.html ( I have installed the version 1.3.3a )

Tip:
Flash Player 8.0 does not work if you use Adblock with OBJ-TABS enabled

Due to increased security in Flash Player 8.0, enabling OBJ-TABS in Adblock will result in no Flash content being displayed.
The only workaround at this time is to disable OBJ-TABS.

For the future we need version 8 of Flash on OS/2 eCs.

Perhaps Macromedia has now a different view to the request/deal. It is now part of Adobe !

A topic in the todo list of Bob St.John ???
