CW-MM Classes 0.22 (from Klaus Staedtler)
Chris Wohlgemuth has relased the CW Multimedia Classes 0.22. These classes are for extending the MM subsystem of OS/2. They integrate the MMIO procedures for MP3 and OGG files written by Russel O'Connor seamlessly into the WPS. A new media folder plays any audio class known to OS/2. CD player with FreeDB support. This package contains updated versions of the CWAudio classes (now at 0.2.2) so you need only this distribution.
New with V0.2.2:
  • CD player with FreeDB support.
  • Some minor fixes.
  • ...and (something Chris Wohlgemuth forgot to tell everybody ;-) the WPS-Crashes introduced by the Audioeditor and the Memoryleaks have also been fixed.
So this is a must-have for everybody dealing with MMOS2!
Note from editoral staff: This is a must have for everybody who loves to work with the WPS!

Free generic preprocessor (html/rexx/ipf/inf/ipfc) (from Timo Maier)
Generic preprocessor with specific support for HTML and ReXX. Includes
external files and supplies usual #define, #include, #if, #ifdef etc as
well as many others such as #import to import data from databases. Can
import SQL. Text to HTML. Its syntax is very simple yet the tool is very
powerful. It is extendable using ReXX, for example "#if GetEnv("FRED") == substr(Var, 2)". Macros support parameters and conditional logic. Create FTP like pages from dir trees (or WPS URL objects), validate generated HTML or rexx, automatically create thumbnails, photo albums. Spell check. HTML example inclusion from file with automatic tagging. As this tool is basically a "Super SSI" there is a "SSI" add-available which simplifies migration to PPWIZARD. "OL_DOC.DH" header for creation of IPF/HTML from common source. Looks to be handy as a XML, XSL and DTD preprocessor. Also runs in Windows, DOS, Unix and Mac OS X.

These scripts install into mr/2 ice (version 2.19 and 2.31a tested) as inbound and outbound filters and provide for the automatic encryption and
decryption of email using pgp (version 5.0 tested). This is a bug fix release - Public key encryption was handled improperly. MR2PGP now supports encryption by any public key on your keyring. If you're upgrading from MR2PGP 1.0; ** READ THE DOCS ** - the encrypt procedure has been changed.

WOL - Power on your ATX PC (from Timo Maier)
With wol you can 'wake up' your pc simply by sending a 'magic packet' over the network. For this I have ported wol.c written by R. Edwards to NetWare and Win32; changed parameter parsing, added file input, so that you can wake up a group of machines from cron; added switch for delay between sending packets; added switch for broadcast address to make directed broadcasts. The NetWare NLM is tested with NW 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, 6.x, the Win32 EXE with W9x, NT, W2K. The source is available as contribution part of the Etherboot package. It runs also on nearly all Unix flavours. The archive wol_gcc.zip contains a NLM and a Win32 command line version, the NLM is compiled with GCC on Linux, the Win32 version with Mingw32-GCC and uses Winsock2. The archive wol_mcw.zip also contains a NLM and a Win32 command line version which are both compiled with Metrowerks CodeWarrior. With version 1.06 now the delay parameter has changed to milliseconds. new! With version 1.10 added new broadcast parameter to make directed broadcasts to subnets. new! Now also an OS/2 version available!

Java Movie Database 1.00 Beta #1 (from Juergen Ulbts)
After one and a half month after the previous release, we released on 2002-05-27 the latest JMDB version! The Java Movie Database (JMDB) is a Java program which stores the Data from the IMDB Text files (Internet Movie Database) in several MySQL Tables. After you have imported the data, you can search for actors, movies, producers and actors. About the movies and people some details are shown. For more details look at the JMDB-Homepage! There are a lot of changes since the last release (here are some of them):
  • JRE crash: more debug infos in the logfile
  • new search method WordSearch implemented, so the program searches only for the words and not the exact string entered
  • expert result window re-implemented
  • "Edit"-menu removed
  • fixed a bug in placing a result window when "SameWindow" option was enabled
  • all windows have close buttons again
  • when the text field in the search window gets the focus again, the whole text is selected
  • when "same window" option in search window is checked, the last result window is closed before starting the actual search
  • search window bugfix: when "start"-button was default button and the user pressed enter in the text field, the search was startet two times.
  • new option "search again" in File menu activates the last search window that was used
  • F1 opens help, F3 opens the last search window, F7 creates new search window
  • ALT-S in main window is "search window" again (was assigned to the wrong button)
  • Setup - FileChooser-dialog added for selecting a directory and files
  • codepage problem with german umlauts solved
  • connection check at every search - the status bar is updated when JMDB looses server connection
  • added latest MM.MYSQL database driver (V2.0.12)
  • checked latest OS/2 release of Java 1.3.1 (IBM build co131-20020405)
  • updated OS/2 installation script (instos2.cmd) to find both Java 1.3 and Java 1.3.1 versions
One note:We still have sometimes JVM crases while importing the files, so we would like to hear some feedback from the users so we can finally find and fix it. You should use for the first couple of times the Debug Version (JMDB-JavaDebug - startos2debug.cmd), because the console is visable, so you can see what's happening. You should also disable "close window on exit" in the Icon properties. If the JVM crashes while converting you can see it at the console. You may wonder what's going on, if nothing happens.

  • Files can play in any Rexx program by using Multimedia calls.
  • Files can be played with the Rexx program PLAY.CMD.

Maul Publisher 2.10 (from Timo Maier)
Maul Publisher is quite simply one of the most powerful DTP applications.
Maul Publisher is aimed at anyone needing to quickly create pleasing and sophisticated publications, without the high cost of one of the industry leading packages. It is aimed at anyone wanting to quickly create printed presentations, club magazines, business cards, cd inlays, or posters.
Many cheaper desktop publishers offer little more than can be achieved with a modern word processor, whereas Maul is quite simply one of the most powerful DTP applications available today.
Group frames together to create instant scalable company logo's. Ease the workflow by using master pages and style sheets for consistent quality. Directly create colour separations to ensure perfect results. Maul has one of the most sophisticated freeform text formatters of the industry, able to kern text and inline images along even a wildly curved path.
Maul is a modular product, with a freely available programmers toolkit describing how to create modules and import/export filters for Maul, as well as a full description of the file format used. This means your precious data will never be locked away in some impenetrable proprietary file format.

It is 32-bit RAR version for DOS and OS/2. Unlike 16-bit RAR/DOS it is able to create archives using dictionaries larger than 64KB. This version is the command line only, full screen mode is not supported. It can work under OS/2 as native OS/2 application handling long names and extended attributes. It also understands long file names when executing in Win95/98 DOS box, but if you need a command line RAR for Windows, it is strongly recommended to use the native Win32 console rar.exe from WinRAR package, which has better performance in Win32 environment.

Jdictionary 1.2 (from Klaus Staedtler)
JDictionary is a powerful multi platform dictionary software. It runs on every operating system with a Java runtime 1.3 or higher. JDictionary is plugin based and has an easy to use plugin managment system, that is able to download and install the desired plugins automagically from the web. Installing or upgrading one or more plugins (even simultaneously) is just one click! There are more and more plugins available for jDictionary. It's not necessary for a plugin to be a dictionary related stuff. For example, currently there is a speech synthesizer plugin under development which will be invoked by other plugins to pronounce the desired words. JDictionary is licensed under the LGPL license, so you can download and use this program for free, and download its source code too.

Inet.Mail(TM) 2.0 (from Lewis Rosenthal)
Inet.Mail(TM) Perseus for OS/2 is a full featured SMTP/POP3 server for the
OS/2 environment. It features a Java Manager interface for all functions
and has been designed from the ground up to take advantage of OS/2's
multi-tasking and multi-threading. Inet.Mail Perseus completely replaces
traditional sendmail and takes the mystery and agony from configuring
internet mail.

Inet.Mail Perseus has the ability to support multiple mail domains with a
single server. Each mail domain contains its own username space so that
user@domain1.com is different than user@domain2.com. This solution is idea
for Internet Service Providers wishing to support multiple customer
domains on a single machine or for companies which need to show two or
more corporate identities.

Inet.Mail Perseus also has the ability to host multiple virtual domains on
a single ip address. In our teminology, a mail domain is a server which
has a unique ip address assigned to it. A virtual mail domain is a server
which uses the same ip address as the mail domain it is associated with.
So you can now create a mail domain, and then associate as many virtual
domains with it as you like. This enables you to support multiple domains
on a single server machine without having to assign a unique ip address
for each domain.

Inet.Mail Perseus also has the ability to selectively queue mail for
domains to pick up on demand using the SMTP extension command ETRN. This
is particularly effective for customers who wish to run their own mail
server but only connect via a dial-up line. The dial-up customers can
choose when their mail is downloaded to their server.

Martin Vieregg has released Hypermake 4.0. With Hypermake (earlier version "MakeIPF"), you can easily create HTML files or IBM IPF files, Winhelp, RTF-Text files and Microsoft HTML-Help files. Instead of editing the HTML, IPF or RTF files directly, you enter a more simple ASCII source text. Links are created automatically; windows of different headings levels can be shown simultaneusly (frames) with only one command; at the end of a chapter, links to subchapters are created automatically and a lot of more.

mod_throttle_access_0_2 (from Timo Maier)
Christian Gilmore: My motivation for writing this module was to limit
number of apache children that could simultaneously be serving the
(nearly) same resource. The particular instance that spurred my need for
this module was an article on the front page of /. that referenced a very
long-running, cpu-consuming user process. I wanted to be able to have the
site as a whole continue to function adequately and defer requests for the
resource once that resource had consumed a certain percentage of all the
apache children available.

DirDiff 2.00 (from Wolfram Schmid)
DirDiff 2.0 is a directory compare and analysis program for OS/2 PM and the successor of DirDiff 1.x.
This version replaces DirDiff 1.x end eliminates limitations the old version has because of the used list control.
We developed a fully new 32 bit list control for displaying the search results which is able to show nearly any number of rows.
In addition we improved the memory management so that the 2.0 version uses less memory.
New main features of the version 2.0 are sorting and filtering of the search result and copy and move of files via drag and drop.
