MPlayer version dev-SVN-r27724-4.3.2 Has Been Released (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

MPlayer version dev-SVN-r27724-OS2-4.3.2 has been released. This OS/2 port is done by KO Myung-Hun. MPlayer is probably the most widely used open source movie player available. It runs on many Operating Systems, including OS/2 thanks to KO Myung-Hun. It can take advantage of OS/2 video
support from SNAP, WarpOverlay!, or DIVE.

Take a moment to look over the included README file for installation, usage and options information. MPlayer, including source code is currently located on Hobbes in the incoming directory:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/incoming/mplayer-dev-SVN-r27724-OS2-4.3.2.zip

And source code is available here:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/incoming/mplayer-dev-SVN-r27724-OS2-4.3.2-src.zip

One of the best (for OS/2) features of MPlayer is it's ability to use Win32 binary codecs, which obviously expands it's versatility greatly. All that is required for use of this feature is the Win32 binary codec package
available here:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

To install MPlayer and the codecs package, please see the README documentation in the archive.

MPlayer requires LIBC v0.6.3. In the unlikely event that you do not already have it, you can download it here:

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/libc/libc-0_6_3-csd3.wpi

SMPlayer, a front end for MPlayer has been made available for OS/2 by Silvan Scherrer:

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/smplayer

For more information on MPlayer, the home page is at:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/info.html

smplayer port (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

As most of you probably noted, there was no update since long to the WarpVision project. Due to the fact, that Warpvision was mostly a GUI to MPlayer, we looked for
alternatives. We found SMplayer to be a good candidate to port, as it's QT based. We used the last QT 3 version of SMplayer and ported it over to OS/2, eCS.

smplayer is now available at the netlabs.org FTP server:

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/smplayer/smplayer-0.5.21-2008-10-14.zip

See the readme.os2 file for where to send bug reports.

Recent port of MPlayer required.

GNU C Compiler (GCC) 4.3.2 port updated (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

GCC 4.3.2 is now available FROM Paul Smedley's web site.
http://www.smedley.info/os2ports/

'Mainly due to the fact that GCC 3.3.5 (which is what is currently used by kLibc) is becoming too old to build the latest Mozilla trunk code, I started working on building a newer version of GCC.

I've started with v3.4.6 - as the thought was that the amount of changed between 3.3.5 and 3.4.6 would be comparatively small compared with aiming for the 'latest' GCC (currently 4.3.2). I now have builds of 3.4.6, 4.0.4
and 4.3.2

The current binary of GCC 4.3.2 has been used to build several projects successfully - ie rsync, Apache2, MySQL, Firefox 3.0-cvs, Ghostscript, ffmpeg amongst others

Known Issues with the current 4.3.2 release (2008-10-12b)

- no support yet for the GOMP multiprocessor library
- link warning when using -Zomf - emxomf will require updating to deal with the new stabs types, but according to Knut, these warnings can be safely ignored, and only affect debugging

Updates since original build - the date in brackets reflects the first build that contained the fix

- Added threading support (2008-10-11 build)
- fixed problem with stdcall that produced errors like ':75: Error: invalid character '_' in mnemonic' (2008-10-12 build)
- fixed (hopefully) 'internal compiler error' crashes when -fPIC is used (2008-10-12 build)
- Added support for precompiled headers based on cygwin code (untested) (2008-10-12b build)
- Fixed 'gcc conftest.c -lgcc' produced -lgcc.exe (20081012b build)

Problems with this build can be reported using my bug tracker at

http://mantis.smedley.info

Current binaries:

Ghostscript v8.63 updated (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

Paul Smedley has updated Ghostscript to version 8.63.
http://www.smedley.info/os2ports/

'Ghostscript is an interpreter for the PostScript (TM) language. A PostScript interpreter usually takes as input a set of graphics commands. The output is usually a page bitmap which is then sent to an output device such as a printer or display. PostScript is embedded in many printers.

Ghostscript has several main uses:

1. Display a PostScript file (avoid killing trees).
2. Display a PostScript file to decide if you really need to print it (reduce the number of trees killed).
3. Print a PostScript file to a non-PostScript printer (kill more trees).

History:

* Necessary device support for CUPS is included - be sure to modify path entry in /cups/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster if upgrading CUPS
* Added jbig support - fixes some PDFs that previously showed up blank
* Compiled with GCC 4.3.2'

Port of GCC 4.0.4 available (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley < paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.id.au >

Hi All,

A preliminary port of GCC 4.0.4 is now available.

Seems to do most of the things that GCC 3.4.6 can do - EXCEPT build Mozilla
- that fails build javascript with some 'declaration of C function xxxxx
conflicts with previous declaration yyyyyyy' errors to do with
js_static_assert that I need to investigate.

Binary & patches available from
http://www.smedley.info/os2ports/index.php?page=gcc

Uniaud32 1.9.8 released (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley < paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.id.au >

Hi All,

Based on the significant fixes for HDA that have been checked in recently (See
http://svn.netlabs.org/uniaud/timeline?from=10%2F01%2F08&daysback=7&changeset=on&update=Update),
I've been inspired to fix SB Live! support in the Uniaud 1.9.x branch.

This release also included an updated uniaud16.sys based on fixes that have been checked in since Uniaud 1.1.4RC6.

All users of uniaud are encouraged to unzip this build over their existing setup and see if there are any regressions, as going forward, this is the codebase that will be used for Uniaud 2.0.

For new users, install the latest install package for Uniaud 1.1.4 first, then replace uniaud16.sys and uniaud32.sys with the ones in the links below.

Download links:
Release version: http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-1.9.8.zip
Debug version: http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-1.9.8-debug.zip

All feedback appreciated!
