Netbeans 3.1Beta (Build 16) runs under OS/2 (from Gili Tzabari)
I finally got NetBeans up and running under OS/2. For those of you who don't know, Netbeans is the "bleeding edge" open-source version of Sun Forte; the Java editor. While there are still issues to be worked out, this is a first step and I hope others will step in and aid me in working out the quirks. I've uploaded the required scripts to Hobbes with the filename "netbeans31-16.zip".

PPWIZARD 2k.331 (from Dennis Bareis)
It has been a while since I announced any PPWIZARD (freeware) changes but as usual they just keep happening. See this page for more information. While people tend to concentrate on PPWIZARD as a html preprocessor it is extremely useful for preprocessing rexx as well, in fact PPWIZARD is a large rexx code which is created by ppwizard! PPWIZARD is also programmable in rexx code. Some of the recent enhancements are to aid in rexx development. PPWIZARD allows you to easily have "libraries" of rexx routines (or even snippets) and reuse these wherever they are required. It is useful for code reuse and can do heaps more than simple file inclusion. If you hand code your HTML web site you may also wish to have a look at PPWIZARD. If you use SSI you should still have a look as PPWIZARD can do heaps more. If you hand code you should seriously consider at
least using SSI and preferably a preprocessor.

WarpIN + XWorkplace 0.9.6 (from Ulrich Möller)
WarpIN is intended to become the new universal OS/2 installer. It is becoming more and more popular among OS/2 developers because of its flexibility and ease of use. It has full system configuration (CONFIG.SYS, WPS classes, WPS objects) and can fully undo all the changes to your system again.
V0.9.6 is mainly a maintenance release. Still, a few new features have been added, such as command-line extraction of archives using WIC.EXE.
2. XWorkplace V0.9.6 is out also.
XWorkplace is the most feature-rich freeware Workplace Shell enhancer on the planet, and even better, it is OpenSource. XWorkplace is the successor to my popular XFolder utility and has become a Netlabs project.
Among many other things, XWorkplace gives you the following features:
  • Tons of folder enhancements, such as status bars, freely configurable context menus, global sort options, and much more.
  • Extended file associations, which replace the illogical WPS associations by type and filter separately.
  • Easy CONFIG.SYS management thru a WPS object.
  • A trash can which supports all WPS delete operations.
  • Replacement default icons.
  • Improvements to startup and shutdown: boot logos, a replacement startup folder, a complete rewrite of the OS/2 shutdown sequence (including automatic reboot, APM power-off, and a shutdown folder).
  • Mouse and keyboard enhancements, including sliding focus, sliding menus, global object hotkeys, folder hotkeys, mouse-button-3 scrolling.
  • Enhanced multimedia, such as more system sounds.
V0.9.6 should fix the problems with WarpCenter and XShutdown. Besides, extended file associations work now.
To install XWorkplace, you also need the latest WarpIN.
See my homepage for detailed information.
WarpIN and XWorkplace are Netlabs projects, released under the GNU General Public Licence. The source code is available on the Netlabs CVS server. See www.netlabs.org/nosa and my homepage for details.
We have created four mailing lists at www.egroups.com.
  • warpin-user
  • warpin-dev
  • xworkplace-user
  • xworkplace-dev
for WarpIn and XWorkplace users and developers, respectively.
We are grateful for feedback on these mailing lists.
Note: If you have linked to the above address of my hompage, please update your links to point to www.netlabs.org instead, because my homepage will change in the near future.

Have fun!

Systray/2 1.0 beta 3 (from Konstantin Okounkov)
We're glad to announce version 1.0 beta 3 of Systray/2!
In this version:
  • improved (no, just FULL-REWRITED) unit painting scheme. And now you can change colors for ALL monitor units (clock, swap, disk, etc)!
  • New classes: System uptime and CPU monitor
  • Tray API for Virtual Pascal/2 included.
  • New plugin - SOM Agent. Now in alpha-test version. Ask us about it!
  • Fixes in plugin docs
  • Fixed bug with configuration saving
  • Fixed bug with configuration notebook on Warp 3
  • other small fixes..
Systray is what we deal with when we work with operating systems Windows '95/98/NT. Actually besides task switcher it is a convenient utility called system tray. Tray is a section of the screen assigned for the programs not seen in the screen at the moment but active and performing an operation which the user can control through the tray. It differs from task switcher in several aspects:
  • The program that has its icon on the tray manages this icon by itself.
  • The user s manipulations over the program are sent as a message to it and operate it through the pop-up menu.
  • The program gets the mechanism allowing to inform the user about the process of performing an operation. E.g. ReGet, ICQ, The Bat.
How can You help us?
All Systray sources and some documentation (Plugin making reference, System Tray API reference) is included - you are welcome to support YOUR SOFTWARE in system tray. You may also create new plugins. Please let us know about your plans in this case and we'll include yours plugins into next releases.
Thanks for your interesting!

  • - MS ADPCM, IMA ADPCM
  • - GSM

Emacs v20.6 (from Jeremy Bowen)
I have just uploaded my latest port of GNU Emacs for OS/2 to Hobbes:This is a beta test release which will hopefully allow most users to try it out and report bugs. As far as I know, pretty much everything is working (at lease as well as it was in v20.3)
There are a number of known issues/bugs (mainly to do with international character support) but I'm happy to receive email about any problems people may experience with this latest version.
For those not familiar with this program, Emacs is a fully featured programmers text editor widely used in the Unix community.

HUSKY - Portable Fidosoft Project (from Joerg Sievers)
The goal of this project is to develop a complete freeware suite of Fidonet applications, running under Linux and other multitasking/multiuser systems. The suite should be comparable to now existing (and partly commercial) OS/2 systems. Most of the software here is GPLed unless otherwise specified. To keep the configuration simple and reliable, all applications should use one set of configuration-files.

NBDD/enhanced NBNS support for Samba (from Brian Landy)
I've created some patches for Samba which enhance its ability to act as a NetBios Name Server and add the ability to act as a NetBios Datagram Distributor. Without the patches, Samba mirrors how MS WINS servers act - it does not register group names other than type 0x1c properly, and it does not act as an NBDD. Without these features, OS/2 clients cannot logon to domains, OS/2 or NT, if they are using TCPBeui in a routed environment. The patch, by adding those features, allows OS/2 clients and servers to easily use TCPBeui in a routed TCP/IP network. I have only tested this running Samba on Linux, but I imagine it would work on any platform supported by Samba.

I've put a new version of SANE (beta 2) on my web page. The version I uploaded to Hobbes seems to have many problems (doesn't work with my scanner, for instance, whilst the new one does). There's also a version of os2cdrom.dmd there which ought to work with recent Yamaha CRW drives.

PM123 1.1 beta 3 (from Samuel Audet)
PM123 1.1 beta 3 is now available for download.
What's new!
  • fixed unjustified "could not load some bitmap" errors from loading skins.
  • wavplay.dll would play part of the last buffer twice.
  • fixed another possible crash in os2audio.dll, should be crashless now.
  • Everything now compiled with VAC++ 3.08 (instead of GCC/EMX)!!! Gone are the weird PMSHELL hanging stack overflow problems related to thread issues with EMX.
  • Skins now load their analyzer .dat file from their respective directory.
  • Equalized sound was not updated when loading .EQ file.
  • All INI files are now saved in pm123.exe directory, including analyzer.ini and scroller.ini. DELETE OLD ANALYZER.INI
  • ID3 Tag Editor no longer crashes in PMCTLS.DLL, it updates the main window info display, and the year is now loaded properly.
  • Mutes and Preamp were not restored properly in the EQ.
  • RealEQ updated to 1.20 -> now you can save your settings in .REQ files.
  • Fixed possible crash when unloading skins.
  • Fixed possible crash when loading skins missing their .pak bundle.
  • Horizontal volume bar did not draw properly when using +/- keys to set volume.
  • A crash could occur at the end of a playback with specana_dobands() (analyzer.dll uses it)
  • Playlist Manager now indicates "no statistics" when there is none.
  • Playlist Manager now opens to the Playlist directory when adding playlists.
  • Filenames with a ';' can now be loaded in playlists. An encoding scheme a la URL using % is now automatically so all filenames containing the wildest characters you can imagine coming from your server will load properly.

mpg123.dll
  • HTTP content length was not always found from some HTTP servers. fixed in http123.dll 1.04

realeq.dll
1.1
  • Implemented MMX !!! Wow, this really kicks arse...
  • Now using the Hamming window instead of von Hann.
  • Now using the ISO R10 standard serie.
  • Changed when calculations are made, snappier GUI, and doesn't make noise when adjusting the EQ anymore.

1.11
  • MMX check box was not restored

1.20
  • Equalizer Settings can now be saved in seperate .REQ files.
  • Removed unused variables from memory, might be faster on small L1 cache CPUs (ie.: not AMD CPUs)
  • Corrected imprecision reading slider values.

SysInfo/2 ver. 0.70 (benchmarks are added) (from Alexey Smirnov)
I am glad to tell you that SysInfo/2 is updated again! Nov it version is 0.70.
Changes in this version are:
  • Some corrections on "Network" page in choosing your Internet/Intranet LAN adapters installed in your system (LAN0-:-LAN7).
  • Add new video devices found in SDD Beta 35 to Video adapter and video memory identification algorithm.
  • Added CPU/FPU Benchmarks, based on public algorithms (DhryStote & FLOPS). The results shown are normalized to typical Intel Pentium 166MMX + EDO RAM performance.
  • Added File System IO BenchMarks that analize your file system performance. The results are shown in KBytes per second for reading and writing tests. Thouse tests are launched 2 times - first using internal file system cache and next - without any caching.

Note:
This is a very first release of CPU/FPU & FileIO BenchMarks. So, please, don`t be too hard on them. ;-)) For now you can download SysInfo/2 ver. 0.70 from project homepage and next it will be posted on Hobbes. I am interesting in you bench result and commens, so all your reports are kindly welcome.
