Netbeans 3.1Beta (Build 16) runs under OS/2 (from Gili Tzabari) |
I finally got NetBeans up and running under OS/2. For those of you who don't know, Netbeans is the "bleeding edge" open-source version of Sun Forte; the Java editor. While there are still issues to be worked out, this is a first step and I hope others will step in and aid me in working out the quirks. I've uploaded the required scripts to Hobbes with the filename "netbeans31-16.zip". -> URL: http://www.netbeans.org -> Hobbes-Search: netbeans31-16.zip -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

PPWIZARD 2k.331 (from Dennis Bareis) |
It has been a while since I announced any PPWIZARD (freeware) changes but as usual they just keep happening. See this page for more information. While people tend to concentrate on PPWIZARD as a html preprocessor it is extremely useful for preprocessing rexx as well, in fact PPWIZARD is a large rexx code which is created by ppwizard! PPWIZARD is also programmable in rexx code. Some of the recent enhancements are to aid in rexx development. PPWIZARD allows you to easily have "libraries" of rexx routines (or even snippets) and reuse these wherever they are required. It is useful for code reuse and can do heaps more than simple file inclusion. If you hand code your HTML web site you may also wish to have a look at PPWIZARD. If you use SSI you should still have a look as PPWIZARD can do heaps more. If you hand code you should seriously consider at
least using SSI and preferably a preprocessor. -> URL: http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~dbareis/ppwizard.htm -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

ZipStream for OS/2 Version 2 (from Frank Schwedler) |
Version 2.00 New Features and Functions
ZipStream is the Next Generation data security and disk compression Software for OS/2. It is easy to use and is the safest 'on the fly' compression/security solution available that harnesses the power, features and reliability of OS/2 2.x, Warp Version 3, version 4 and higher. ZipStream's reasonable price, reliability and performance have made it extremely popular in the OS/2 community. Using ZipStream you can secure your data or applications by storing them in encrypted form so that they can only be accessed again when authorised by you. The mechanism of granting access to files is by means of a logon to the ZipStream system. Once you have logged on, ZipStream will transparently allow access to the encrypted data and applications. Conversely, unless you have logged on to ZipStream, access to the encrypted data or applications will not be possible as ZipStream has not been authorised to decrypt the data ransparently. ZipStream is a cryptographically secure compressed file system for OS/2, based on our original, popular, proven and highly regarded ZipStream (tm) compression file system product. The ZipStream product provides the high strength security needed to meet the demands of corporate customers. ZipStream has been specifically designed to protect your system against:
Technically speaking, ZipStream is an OS/2 Installable File System (IFS) that mirrors access to existing OS/2 File Systems simultaneously providing automatic transparent file encryption / compression and decryption / decompression. -> URL: http://zgc.com/carbon/ -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

NBDD/enhanced NBNS support for Samba (from Brian Landy) |
I've created some patches for Samba which enhance its ability to act as a NetBios Name Server and add the ability to act as a NetBios Datagram Distributor. Without the patches, Samba mirrors how MS WINS servers act - it does not register group names other than type 0x1c properly, and it does not act as an NBDD. Without these features, OS/2 clients cannot logon to domains, OS/2 or NT, if they are using TCPBeui in a routed environment. The patch, by adding those features, allows OS/2 clients and servers to easily use TCPBeui in a routed TCP/IP network. I have only tested this running Samba on Linux, but I imagine it would work on any platform supported by Samba. -> URL: http://gateway.landy.cx -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |
