SWTSwing - Alternative way to use applications using SWT (e.g. Azureus, Eclipse)? (von NN) |
There are many applications we would like to have on eComStation and OS/2. When it comes to Java and you are a developer this will be the Eclipse IDE for your daily development work or if you are no software developer you might be interested in torrents and would like to use Azureus.
Both applications use the Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT) which is missing on eComStation and OS/2. This alone would not help but it\'s then easy to get the apps running, as SWT is the major stopper. There is some work going on to port SWT to OS/2 but this will take a while to get done. There might be an alternative called SWTSwing.... I\'ve started a discussion at the OS2World.com forum (\"Programming\" section) about the SWTSwing project that would be very helpful to get applications like Azureus, Eclipse (using the EoS project) and other applications using the Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT) running on OS/2 and eComStation with plain Java Swing. I hope some people will join the discussion to convince Christopher Deckers (SWTSwing) and Dieter Krachtus (EoS project together with Christopher) that it\'s worth the extra work and trouble to get SWTSwing running on Java v1.4.x. We also need some developers to help them and some people for testing the results, when SWTSwing is running on eComStation based on Java v1.4.x (by Golden Code or Innotek)! Here you can join the SWTSwing discussion (see URL below) -> URL: http://www.os2world.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,63/topic,277.0/ -> Kommentare: 0 [ Version zum Drucken ] [ Per eMail versenden ] |

SWTSwing discussion at OS2World.com (von Juergen Ulbts) |
Hello!
I\'ve started a discussion about the topic SWTSwing at OS2World.com. SWTSwing is a Java implementation of the Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT), which is used by e.g. Azureus (Filesharing software) and Eclipse (integrated development environment). It currently looks like the SWTSwing project is a solution for the missing SWT port to get the previously named and other applications working on OS/2 and eComStation. Currently it is not possible to use SWTSwing with Java 1.4.x , because there are several functions being used by the current SWTSwing version which where introduced with Java 1.5 and 1.6. Those Java versions are currently unavailable on your choosen platform. The point is currently, can we convince the SWTSwing developers that it\'s worth to maintain compatibility with Java 1.4.x. Beside that we need some people to help with the backward compatibility and we also need people who can test the results. Here is the link to the discussion \"SWTSwing alternative way to use applications using SWT (e.g. Azureus, Eclipse)?\": http://www.os2world.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,63/topic,277.0/ You will also find a screenshot showing you Azureus on eComStation 2.0rc1. This was a dirty hack I was able to create within two days of looking into SWTSwing and Azureus last weekend. I had some help from Dieter Krachtus who provided me with an older SWTSwing version and I used the Retroweaver project (see http://retroweaver.sf.net/) to get a more or less Java 1.4 compatible version of Azureus (including some of my own hacks in the Azureus sourcecode). -> URL: http://www.os2world.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,63/topic,277.0/ -> Kommentare: 0 [ Version zum Drucken ] [ Per eMail versenden ] |

eCS-OS/2 Assembly Language list (von NN) |
Not too many people these days are very keen on Assembly Language as a viable development tool. When I was a mainframe programmer, specializing in 370 Assembler, I heard all the same arguments against it about how much more productive one could be in a high level language, but I never agreed with them.
Don\'t you think anyone who could deliver a product that occupies 60MB as compared to an equivalent product developed in a high level language that occupies 600 MB, and in addition executed everything much faster that the bloated app, could be competitive? How many times have I heard people complain about how slow OOo and Mozilla apps are? I have created a new yahoo group for anyone who wants to collaborate on the problems of programming in Assembly Language under eCS and OS/2. I hope that anyone interested in learning to program in Assembly Language will join me in this group. It would also be greatly appreciated if anyone who has any experience in it would also join us to give us some insight. It\'s open to anyone who wants to join - See URL below -> URL: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/eCS_asm/ -> Kommentare: 3 [ Version zum Drucken ] [ Per eMail versenden ] |

OS/2 Web Side von Sjoerd Visser - Sehr empfehlenswert (von Rainer D.) |
Hallo
OS/2 Warp 4 in the thuisnetwerk Dial Other Internet Providers XFree86/OS2 eComStation Firewall for OS/2 VirtualPC for OS/2 Hier Auszug Untermenu: eComStation ====================== eComStation preview: First impressions eComStation install bèta Logical volume manager Corset for eComStation JFS OS/2 and Linux TCP/ip version 4.3 Firewall to build with OS/2 Network traffic-jam system < Wise manager Streaming media under eComStation and OS/2 ( --> Einsatz von MPlayer plus sehr nützliches Hintergrundwissen ) eComStation left ============================================= Eine Einschränkung hat die Sache leider. :-( Sjoerd schreibt alles in Niederländisch!

eComStation 2.0 RC1 - Let\'s install it! (von NN) |
Since the latest Release Candidate for eComStation has been released and it has some new interesting features as well.
We wanted to take a look at it to see how easy it is to install. Why? Well, for many users the installations procedure has been and still are a painfull chapter when it comes to OS2 and eComStation. So with this article we will primary focus on how easy this RC1 release installs on various hardware. -> URL: http://www.os2world.com/content/view/14692/2/ -> Kommentare: 4 [ Version zum Drucken ] [ Per eMail versenden ] |

Review: eComStation 2.0 RC1 (von NN) |
Recently, Serenity Systems released the second first release candidate of eComStation 2.0, the successor to IBM\'s os/2.
Mensys, the online distributor of eComStation and other os/2-related products, was so kind as to provide OSNews with a review copy of this release candidate, and since my experience with os/2 and eCS is not much more than a few failed attempts at installing Warp 4, I was eager to try it out. Read on for a short history of os/2 and eCS and a review of the release candidate. -> URL: http://www.osnews.com/story.php/18169/Review-eComStation-2.0-RC1/ -> Kommentare: 0 [ Version zum Drucken ] [ Per eMail versenden ] |
