Problem:
How should I configure the Access Unit on OS/2 Warp 4 to operate properly with the Remote Manager?
Solution:
There is a different method required to configure TCP/IP and SNMP on OS/2 Warp 4. If you configure the Access Unit as you would have on Warp 3,
remote management will not work.
Note: If this is a first time install of Warp 4, choose Management System Agent and make sure all options are selected.
If Warp 4 is already installed:
1. Open the OS/2 System folder, and select Programs.
2. Select Utilities - Agent System Management System -- OS/2 Agent Configuration. Select the Communities tab. Verify the following settings:
Protocol...UDP
Name......public
Address.... 0.0.0.0
Net Mask....0.0.0.0
Access ....Type... Read/Write
3. Click the MIB Variables tab. Fill in arbitrary values for the MIB variables fields.
4. Click the SNMPD tab. Ensure that the parameters line contains as its final argument, -dpi tcp. Do not remove any other arguments from the
parameters line.
5. Choose Programs - Utilities - System Management System. Double-click OS/2 Agent Startup to activate SNMP master agent.
6. Press CTRL+Esc to open an OS/2 Task List and check for the SNMP daemons: SNMPD.EXE and DMISA.EXE. Select the SNMPD.EXE entry. A
window appears that displays the following:
AGENT: Ready to Receive Requests
Select the DMISA.EXE entry. A window appears that displays the version and copyright information.
If either the SNMPD.EXE or DMISA.EXE windows are empty, reexamine the SNMP and TCP/IP configurations.
