Re: VPC Abbild verkleinern (von: Rainer, 08:36:49) | « ^ |
Hi, aus dem Innotek-Forum
------------------------- Hi, Achim wrote in the FAQ's a little bit about that. Yesterday I tried to compress a 8GB VHD with Zerofree, it gave me an error of beeing not able to go behind 4GB. Not a problem it was just a test, eraser handeld it. So now here is another go (from the former Connectix-Forum) --- snip Hi, You need to compact the disk image. BEFORE you attempt this make sure you have BACKED UP all important data or files. This process directly manipulates the data in the drive image. Here's how: 1. Download and install a drive zeroing software, like eraser http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/ 2. Defrag the drive 3. Run Eraser 4. Select Edit ->Preferences ->Erasing 5. Select 'Unused space' 6. Select 'New' 7. Enter the description 'blank' 8. Select 'Add' 9. Create a 3-byte pattern of zeros 10. Hit 'Save' 11. Select 'blank' under 'Unused Disk Space' 12. Hit 'Ok' 13. Select 'File' -> 'New Task' 14. Select 'Unused space on drive' 15. Select 'Local Hard Drives' 16. Hit 'Ok' 17. Select 'Task'->'Run the previously created task' 18. Wait for Eraser to finish 19. Close the report 20. Exit Eraser and shutdown the guest 21. Use the Virtual Disk Assistant to 'Reclaim zeroed drive space' -SJ --- snap Ok this worked great for me with all flavers of Win. How about OS/2 ore eCS ?? Now, I installed latest ODIN-weekly in a eCS 1.13 VHD, than follow the instruction above (skipped defrag). It runs like hell. By the way, the sheduler in eraser didn't work, eraser died. Don't bother a possible warning about saving the OS/2-inis, its temporary. Another thing is, when eraser has finished, a short logwindow pops up saying the filesystem isn't supported, here it was HPFS (didn't test a JFS-VHD). As far I can see there wasn't a problem after rebooting. So what happend to the VHD?? The VHD compressed fine, not as much as doing everything with zerofree, but it's more comfortable to do everything online without shutdown, mounting the VHD's to another VM, reboot, freeup, shutdown, compact, remount and startup again. The differenc in compacting is about 30 to 50 MB, advantage zerofree. I think this shoudn't be a big problem. So for me it's: Start the VM, run eraser, shutdown, compact and reboot. Hope this makes life more easy and comfortable. Greatings/2 Rainer ------------------------- Gruß/2 Rainer [ Leser: 88 ] |
