Java 2 nicht mehr frei? (von Thomas Kämmerer, 00:00:00) | ^ |
Kennt jemand genaueres zu diesem Thema?
Hier nur ein Zitat aus der OS/2 Java Newsgroup@Hursley: Well, I couldn't leave without posting a "good-bye" message to this newsgroup. After spending some wonderful time working with java, OS/2 and IBM's JDKs, I'm moving on to other grounds... Last week, we received word that the new JDK would, without a doubt, be placed on Software Choice as a "pay as a you go" option. Sorry to say, my employer isn't interested in paying and I can't blame them. IBM's decision to charge for something that everyone else is handing away free is totally unacceptable and is the only reason that we're moving on. Your decision has moved us from a nearly 100% OS/2 shop to a nearly 100% Linux shop in less than a weeks' time. Sun's SDK 1.2, while being a pre-release version, is complete enough to allow us to make the change to the newer jvm and all the benefits it holds. So far, not including man time, the change over has cost the company less than what one subscription to Software Choice would have incured! Multiplying that by the number of "seats" we have here and the savings has been tremendous... In this one shop, your "make 'em pay for it" decision has been a flop. I'll miss the quality of the previous OS and it's JVM, but reality does take a toll. [ Leser: 94 ] |
