Entwickler Workshop - Poster und mehr (von Robert Henschel)
The OS/2 and eComStation Developers Workshop 2005 will be held on July 9th and 10th in Dresden, Germany.

Posters:
A while back we asked OS/2 developers to create posters for the Developers Workshop. We are pleased to announce that we have received the first two posters, one about ôWDSibylö, the Pascal IDE, and one about the ôDevelopment Tools Section at EDM/2ö.
Posters are a great way to inform people about your work or your project! If you are developing an application or driver for OS/2 or eComStation or if you are maintaining a website that is related to a development project, please consider creating a poster for the Workshop. A poster is simply a very large paper, for example in the A2 to A3 format, that contains an overview about a project.
If you want to know more about posters, please visit the Workshop Homepage!
We do think that presenting a development project with a poster is a great way to attract more people to your project and make it known to other OS/2 developers! So, it is not too late to hand in a poster of your project!

New session:
There is one new session for the Workshop. Stefan Neis will talk about wxWidgets - a cross platform toolkit and its OS/2 versions.

Schedule:
The schedule for the event is already online and does now also contain the important information when the event will start on Saturday!

List of Presentations:
The Developers Workshop has a total of 12 sessions about OS/2 related development. Almost all of the sessions have a description attached so you can see what they are about. (The descriptions are available on the Workshop Homepage!) Here is an up-to-date list of the presentations:
- OS/2 USB Stack Development Guidelines
- Supporting USB WebCams in OS/2
- wxWidgets - a cross platform toolkit and its OS/2 versions
- netlabs.org - What\'s up?
- Discussion about netlabs.org and OS/2 Software Development
- Developing cross-platform text-based applications in C using the OpenWatcom compiler on OS/2
- FORTRAN/TK: Easy GUI development for OS/2 and Windows
- Porting X Applications to PM with Everblue
- Development roadmap for eComStation

unpaper - post-processing scanned and photocopied book pages1.0.1 (von NN)
unpaper is a post-processing tool for scanned sheets of paper, especially for book pages that have been scanned from previously created
photocopies. The main purpose is to make scanned book pages better readable on screen after conversion to PDF.

Additionally, unpaper might be useful to enhance the quality of scanned pages before performing optical character recognition (OCR). unpaper tries to clean scanned images by removing dark edges that appeared through scanning or copying on areas outside the actual page content (e.g. dark areas between the left-hand-side and the right-hand-side of a double- sided book-page scan).

The program also tries to detect disaligned centering and rotation of pages and will automatically straighten each page by rotating it to the correct angle. This is called \"deskewing\". Note that the automatic processing will sometimes fail. It is always a good idea to manually control the results of unpaper and adjust the parameter settings according to the requirements of the input.

Each processing step can also be disabled individually for each sheet. Input and output files can be in either .pbm or .pgm format, as also used by
the Linux scanning tools scanimage and scanadf. Conversion to PDF can e.g. be achieved with the Linux tools pgm2tiff, tiffcp and tiff2pdf.unpaper is a post-processing tool for scanned sheets of paper, especially for book pages that have been scanned from previously created

Let\'s gather solutions based on OS/2 (von Eugene Gorbunoff)
Whatsnew:
* A vision for eComStation - Kiosk (by Nick Morrow)

With a KIOSK vision the ability to take real advantage of the millions
of x86 systems out there in the world with a very thin, highly dependable
internet access client that runs on even very old x86 hardware could
enable eCS to find a niche that will substantially increase sales.

OS/2 (eComStation) is alive while people are using and improving the system.
The developers of solutions ensure long life for our operating system because
computers with OS/2 make money for their customers year by year. The
developers bring new industrial technologies to OS/2, feed support service,
fill OS/2 with unique features to keep the solutions competitive.

Examples of solutions based on OS/2: ATM, sound processing (speech, digital
restoration of sound), training devices (astronauts, oilmen), technical
appliances (measuring, medical), virtual machines (mainframes, SVISTA),
CMMS, restaurants, etc.

Why should you write the story today?
* You should do this to protect your investments made into OS/2 platform.
* OS/2 users are located in different countries and cities. They will read
the story because of OS/2 word :) And spread the information about
your company and products among own colleagues.
* The developer of the operating system will get information about your
requirements and improve OS to satisfy them.
* Your story gives stimulus to thousands of users, developers and companies.
* It\'s easy. Solution story is based on usual product flyer.

Where to collect solutions? www.ecomstation.ru site is hosting Solutions list
since 2002. Now it contains texts on russian language only but you can publish
german, dutch, english texts there.

How to write Solutions story? Take the flyer of your product, add Introduction,
add one-two paragraphs about advantages of OS/2 usage, add 2 advertisement
photos/screenshots, 2 screenshots of back-end demonstating usage of OS/2.
Send the story to e-mail: support (at) ecomstation.ru

Welcome to homepage of solutions! (http://ecomstation.ru/solutions)

Rich Walsh to WPS features for FireFox (von NN)
From: Rich Walsh
Newsgroups: netscape.public.mozilla.os2
Subject: Firefox with WPS features
Date: 7 Jun 2005 05:58:22 GMT

I\'ve just finished \"Phase I\" of a project to add WPS features to the
Mozilla apps. Before I submit these changes, I\'d like to get your
feedback. If you\'d like to try a test version of Firefox, download:

fx-wps-v1.zip (8,753,553 bytes)

Phase I covers icons and helper apps:

icons: The icons displayed in the Download and Helper Apps dialogs
will match the ones you\'d see if the file were in a WPS folder.

helper-apps: The Download dialog will always let you open any file
(except an exe) in a helper app. In most cases, it will offer
the WPS default (e.g. \"WarpIn\" for *.wpi or \"MM Audio Player\"
for *.wav). Programs listed in your mailcap file or previously
selected from this dialog will always be shown and may squeeze
out the WPS entry (since there\'s only room for two choices).

If you find any bugs in the WPS features, please email me or post here.
Other bugs should be reported as problems with the Deer Park Alpha 1
(the titlebar identifies this version as \"Deer Park WPS Alpha 1\").

Notes:
- the firefox directory contains a copy of Run! that has been renamed
as \"firefox!L.exe\" (the \'L\' option sets LIBPATHSTRCT).

- I\'ve included a number of debugging messages in the code. To view
them, use either Firefox\'s \"-console\" commandline option, or add the
\'V\' option to Run! (i.e. firefox!LV.exe).

- this package uses a new version (v0.70) of Remote Workplace Server
(RWS) to provide the WPS interface. This version will unload itself
when the last app using it closes so you can move or delete its files.

- the use of RWS is completely optional. If you remove or rename its
dlls (rwscli07 and rwssrv07), most icons will default to the generic
datafile icon, and the helper-app dialog will display \"WPS default\"
rather than the program\'s name.

Project eSchemes (von NN)
The eSchemes project is aimed at replacing the original eComStation Scheme editor and split the functionality of Window Themes, eStylerLite, Icon Themes, Sound Schemes, Pointer scheme, and other system look & feel related settings into one place.

Besides that, the eSchemes project has the goal to fix some problems with colors (like gray frames). It will not affect Win-OS2 sessions, they will keep their own look. The eSchemes project ultimately also has the goal to make Win-OS2 look the same as eComStation windows.
