[New] Firefox 4.0 & Seamonkey 2.1 betas (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

New betas of Firefox and Seamonkey are now available. They feature
native printing support, a major improvement in memory usage, and a
fix for a long-time bug.

Firefox v4.0b8pre is available from:
http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/firefox-20101030.zip /> or
http://class='extlink'http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/firefox-20101030.zip /> Seamonkey v2.1b2pre is available from:
http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/seamonkey-20101030.zip /> or
http://class='extlink'http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/seamonkey-20101030.zip

/>Printing Support
----------------
All native printer drivers will work if their output resolution is set
to 360 DPI or less. This beta can automatically reset the resolution
for both the OMNI and PSCRIPT families of drivers if needed. Mozilla’s
built-in Postscript support is also available for use, as is its PDF
support. Please read PRINTING.txt in the exe’s directory for details.

Memory Management
-----------------
With a few trivial exceptions, the Mozilla apps will no longer use any
shared memory beyond what’s needed to load their dlls. Problems that
have been attributed to low or no shared memory (such as the inability
to start new apps, failure to update unrelated ini files, and general
system instability) should no longer occur. This does not mean that
these problems have been permanently eliminated, only that a major
cause of them has been removed.

’Copy Link Location’
--------------------
A long-time bug that caused characters to be deleted from URLs when
using the ’Copy Link Location’ menu item has been fixed.

Community support for these betas and all Mozilla apps is available
through the newsgroups ’mozilla.dev.ports.os2’ or ’comp.os.os2.apps’.
Messages posted to other forums may not be seen by the developers.

The development of games is very important for any operating system.

First of all, the games are aimed for entertainment of users.

Moreover, the games cause the development of developer tools and libraries.

Games - is a good base for new Commercial Solutions.

The games attract the attention to eComStation on conferences and exhibitions.

Mistakes of eCo Software:

* It was necessary create unique original games, not remakes of existing

* It was necessary release libraries for developers

* It was necessary create video clips to promote this kind of software

* It was a mistake to start work on "large" games like OpWarp without business-plan.

[New] Native Printing Support in Firefox and Seamonkey (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Native printing support is now available in new betas of Firefox and
Seamonkey. These betas are part of a project sponsored by Mensys to
provide full printing support in the Mozilla apps.

Firefox v4.0b8pre is available from:
http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/firefox-20101009.zip /> or
http://class='extlink'http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/firefox-20101009.zip /> Seamonkey v2.1b2pre is available from:
http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/seamonkey-20101009.zip /> or
http://class='extlink'http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/seamonkey-20101009.zip

/>Printing Features
-----------------
Native Support - all native printer drivers should work if their output
resolution is set to 360 DPI or less. If the resolution is set higher,
the app will attempt to reduce it to 300 or 360 DPI. Should that fail,
it will popup a ’Print to file’ dialog and will create a PDF. See the
’Notes’ section below additional info.

Postscript Support - Mozilla’s built-in Postscript support can still be
used if needed. CUPS users may need to enable it if they are unable to
change their native driver’s DPI setting. See ’Notes’ below for details.

PDF Support - PDFs can be created by selecting ’Print to file’, When
the file dialog appears, give the file’s name a ".pdf" extension.

Other Features
--------------
Image Handling - an experimental feature in this beta eliminates native
handling of images (i.e. pictures, graphics, etc.). This _may_ reduce
the instability many users report after the browser has been open for
several days.

Notes
-----
* Resolution has been limited to avoid excessive memory consumption.
At 300 DPI, a print job on A4- or Letter-sized paper uses about 32mb;
at 600 DPI, it requires 128mb. The ’Print to file’ dialog appears
whenever a job needs more than 64mb.

* Memory use is controlled by the paper size and DPI settings, not the
number of pages. If you use a small enough page size (e.g. a CD-cover
or photograph sheet), you may be able to print at a higher resolution.

* To enable Mozilla’s built-in Postscript support:
- enter "about:config" in the browser’s address bar, press Enter
- click MB2 on any item in the preferences listing
- select ’New->Boolean’ from the popup menu
- enter "print.os2.postscript.use_builtin" (no quotes), press OK
- select "true", press OK

To use the built-in support, you must select a printer associated with
a native PS driver. The driver won’t actually be used - it simply acts
as a flag to tell Mozilla to produce PS output.

* CUPS users may find that the only resolution available is 1440 DPI.
To confirm this, open the printer’s ’Job Properties’ notebook to the
’Output’ tab and look at ’Resolution’. If ’1440’ is the only value
listed, the PPD for this printer has no "*Resolution" entries. You
have two options:
- enable Mozilla’s built-in Postscript support
- edit the PPD to add the entries, then import the PPD into the driver
(if you need instructions, please post a request in the newsgroups)

* In the current beta, initial memory use will appear to increase due
to the change in image-handling. Memory freed as images are discarded
will be reused by the browser but won’t be released for system-wide
use. This will be fixed in the next version.

* A copy of this announcement is included in the zips as PRINTING.txt.

Flash 10 Plugin wrapper for eComStation Technology Preview 2 available (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Mensys BV is pleased to announce the availability of the Flash 10 Plugin wrapper for eComStation Technology Preview 2

This product is available for download to all registered users of Software Subscription Services for eComStation. For more information, please visit: http://www.ecomstation.com/subscription/

The second Technology Preview of the Flash 10 Plugin wrapper for eComStation is intended to show the progress of this product and to give you an early experience of being able to use websites implementing the latest Flash content.

The official Flash 5 included with eComStation is outdated and does not support video playback. The unofficial Flash 7/9 release which can be found on the internet does not work on a lot of websites as it identifies itself as Flash 9 but can only display Flash 7 content.

With the new release of Flash 10 up-to-date Flash support for eComStation is provided. This release also supports proper rendering of Flash 10 text elements and Flash keyboard input works.

Notes:

- This code should not be used on production systems. See the readme document for details.

- This release requires eComStation 1.2, 1.2R or eComStation 2.0 GA.

- This release requires an installed version of Odin, which can be obtained from the same download location as the Flash 10 package.

- Feedback can be provided via http://svn.ecomstation.nl/flash10

> Please follow the guidelines on what steps are needed in order to properly report a bug.

About the Flash standard: Flash content is used on a lot of websites.

Some websites require Flash support to login with your user credentials.

Also a lot of populair websites have video files online in the Flash format.

After downloading please review the readme documentation for known  issues and instructions on how to uninstall.

Best regards,

Mensys BV

Peg-Solitair 1.0.0 (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

The peg solitaire game, also known as English peg solitaire or Senku is of uncertain origin.

It is a board game played with pegs: in the classic mode, the board has 33 positions and 32 tokens because the center position is without form.

The game is to remove the pegs but only with horizontal and vertical movements.

To solve the game is to leave only one piece on the board in the center position (which was initially empty). In the reverse modes, initially there is only one piece on the board: with the movements (jumping from one empty position to another position to get empty) tokens are added to get only one position is vacant on the board.

New release of Odin 20101001 on Netlabs (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Thanks to new development for Flash 10, after a long hiatus there has been new work being done on the Odin project on Netlabs. There is no update to the changelog so I don’t know what has been changed.

http://class='extlink'http://odin.netlabs.org/

"Odin is the name of the project and software that allows users to run
Win32 (Windows 95 and Windows NT) applications in OS/2 Warp operating
system natively, almost as if they were intended to be OS/2 applications
in the first place. It also makes porting from Win32 to OS/2 easier by
providing a Win32 API implementation in OS/2: the Odin32 API."

Release version: http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/odin/odin32bin-20101001-release.wpi />Debug: http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/odin/odin32bin-20101001-debug.wpi
