PMRA (Poor Man's Roaming Access) (from Mike)
Poor Man's Roaming Access (PMRA) is freeware that extends the roaming access feature beyond Netscape 4.x to Warpzilla, the IBM web browser, and other versions of Netscape. It allows the sharing of bookmark (or other) files from multiple computers, or from multiple operating systems on a single computer. PMRA uses ftp transfers in binary mode for more error-resistant file transfers, eliminating the gradual and subtle data corruption inherent in the original Netscape 4.x implementation. PMRA can be used under OS/2 or Win32, and requires access to an ftp server.

RexxMail 20011112.105405 (from Marcus de Geus)
RexxMail provides an extremely flexible yet easy to use e-mail processing environment with a minimum of fuss. It operates through elements provided by the standard OS/2 Workplace Shell (which is still the best graphical user interface available on any platform). Since the RexxMail user interface consists of normal WPS folders and program and file objects, getting to know the program requires only a minimum of effort.
Although the standard way of working with RexxMail is through the WPS by manipulating WPS objects, RexxMail is a straightforward Classic REXX program that runs, like any REXX program, from a command line in a (hidden) windowed or full-screen OS/2 command processor session. Since all RexxMail operations are controlled by command-line switches, the full range of RexxMail functions and settings can also be accessed from a command line.
RexxMail is written in REXX, an interpreted language, so it is also its own source code, ready for you to edit to suit your preferences.
RexxMail is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
2001-11-12 = Update: build 20011112.105405.
  • Bugfix: a sent message file could not be moved to destination folders specified in 'mailsent.txt' if the message was to a mailing list (the SendMailSMTP procedure reported no. of sent messages instead of success/failure).
  • UnPackMessage procedure now acts on copy of original message file to prevent file access problems if the message file is moved or deleted during view/reply/address operations.
  • Changed behaviour of outgoing file objects during sending: they are made temporarily invisible rather than unmoveable.

Sizer - IPF inf window shrinker (from Martin R. Hadam)
There's a very handy freebie at Peter Koller's (author of Maul publisher) site (use at your own risk). Sizer is a little IPF inf window shrinker. You may have noticed that when you open any IPF help document, the window fills the whole screen. This is great for reading the help, but not so great if you need to do something else while the document is open. Sizer can resize these help windows to a more reasonable size.

SIO2K 2.01a (from Ray Gwinn)
Version 2.01a of the SIO2K serial drivers is now avaliable. This release includes additions that allow support for a wider range of PCI cards. See HISTORY.TXT in the distribution zip for a complete list of additions and changed. The drivers are also available at hobbes and Pete Norloff's OS2 BBS. PMLM was added in the 2.01 release of SIO2K. PMLM allows developers and users to monitor all data being sent and received by a given communications port, ie COM1, COM2 etc. The changes in signals, such as DTR and DCD, are also recorded in the PMLM trace. SIO2K is shareware communication drivers and utilities for OS/2 developed by Ray Gwinn.

DOOM Soundblaster Patch (from Martin Kiewitz)
This is a really great day.
I finally got it working. 100% without freezes. With Soundblaster
Sound/FX. REALLY. Not kidding.
I will write a generic patcher, so that this buggy routine will get fixed
under Hexen, Heretic, etc.
I just thought of giving you something to play with, while I'm doing the
generic patcher. And I don't want people to think that I didn't get it
really :)

AiR-BOOT v0.23b Public-Beta (from Martin Kiewitz)
I'm releasing AiR-BOOT today as Public-BETA. AiR-BOOT is a Multi-Boot partition loader with some extra features built in. Like colored "award-like" SETUP, Virus-Protection, Linux-Kernel-Support etc. It was written in 100% assembly and was last modified 1 1/2 years ago. It's working here 100% stable. I think some more users should benefit from it. Later versions will perhaps include some Partitioning tool as well.
Please read the manual, before installing the software and please backup your system, just to make sure.
Currently AiR-BOOT is somehow Freeware. Registration-Information is included still, but this version is not crippled in any way, nor is it time-bombed.
I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE FEED-BACK as well as thoughts about the program and additional feature wishes.
P.S.: I don't know if it works with Windows 2000/XP. It's working fine with OS/2 Warp, Win95/98/PC-DOS/OpenDOS/Linux (special kernel support).

Weasel 1.3 (from Peter Moylan)
At long last, the new release of Weasel is available. For those who don't know it, Weasel is a shareware e-mail server (POP3 and SMTP) for OS/2 and eCS. The new version has had its "outward mail" processing completely redesigned for faster delivery. There are also many minor changes.
You can get it from http://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/os2/weasel.html or from ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/software/weasel130.zip

List of changes in version 1.30
  • Increased number of worker threads that send mail to 16.
  • Radical change to the way the outgoing mail is sorted. This should improve mailing list performance.
  • Optional serialisation of filter operations, to compensate for Rexx scripts that can't handle more than one thread at a time.
  • For relay host, use direct lookup rather than MX lookup.
  • Extra guard against memory overflow in high-traffic conditions.
  • Mail no longer sent through backup relay for recipients where the original server has rejected this user.
  • New way of specifying blacklist sites, as a result of the way those sites have changed.
  • In Setup and VIOSetup, added check for a user name that duplicates an alias, or vice versa.
  • VIOSetup now supports most things that Setup does.
  • ixed bug: misleading error message if no valid recipients.
  • Fixed memory leak in UIDL command.

phpMyAdmin 2.2.1 (from Timo Maier)
phpMyAdmin can administer a whole MySQL-server (needs a super-user) but also a single database. To accomplish the latter you'll need a properly set up MySQL-user who can read/write only the desired database. It's up to you to look up the appropiate part in the MySQL manual. Currently phpMyAdmin can:
  • create and drop databases
  • create, copy, drop and alter tables
  • delete, edit and add fields
  • execute any SQL-statement, even batch-queries
  • manage keys on fields
  • load text files into tables
  • create (*) and read dumps of tables
  • export (*) and import data to CSV values
  • administer multiple servers and single databases
  • communicate in more than 20 different languages
Main changes/improvements since version 2.2.0:
  • security fixes
  • the "blank screen" bug is fixed
  • the bug with "LIMIT" clause in "UPDATE" statements is also fixed (requires MySQL >= 3.23.x)
  • binary fields were not exported the way they should in dump files
  • importing dump files is about two times faster in this version
  • multiple drop/alter statements have been implemented
  • new languages were added (finnish, greek, turkish) and some old ones updated

shorten - fast compression for waveform files (from Timo Maier)
shorten reduces the size of waveform files (such as audio) using Huffman coding of prediction residuals and optional additional quantisation. In lossless mode the amount of compression obtained depends on the nature of the waveform. Those composing of low frequencies and low amplitudes give the best compression, which may be 2:1 or better. Lossy compression operates by specifying a minimum acceptable segmental signal to noise ratio or a maximum bit rate. Lossy compression operates by zeroing the lower order bits of the waveform, so retaining waveform shape.

Unofficial patch for Mortal Kombat (version 2) (from Martin Kiewitz)
Just wanted to announce that I managed to get Mortal Kombat 100% working under OS/2. MK had 2 "speed-bugs", which are now removed and special OS/2 / eCS patched-in code to compensate some "bug" (whatever you call it) in OS/2 VDM. MK is using a 16-bit IRQ handler under 32-bit Protected Mode. The VDM simply forgets the IRQ handler that way :( Now it's working 100% *FULL SOUND* via Soundblaster. Have fun :)

QuickView Pro 2.46 for DOS (from Wolfgang Hesseler)
There was high interest from OS/2 users in my DOS software after Timothy Sipples posted a message here in July. It is therefore probably of interest for OS/2 users that there is an update of QuickView Pro. It now properly plays DivX AVI videos with sound. The software runs well under OS/2 Warp because of its great DOS emulation. QuickView Pro is a DOS based multimedia viewer with support for AVI, MOV, MPEG 1, VideoCD, MP3, WAV and various other video, picture and sound formats.
