Vote for XnView (from Frank Berke) |
XnView is a software to view and convert graphics files, really simple to use; with support of more than 200 graphics formats. It also offers simple picture editing functions, such as mirroring, filters, etc. and allows processing whole directories in batch-mode. It generates dia-shows, takes screenshots, and generates HTML-indexes of selected images with thumbnails.
Unfortunytely, this program is available for all Windows platforms, plus Linux, FreeBSD, and several Unixes, but currently not for OS/2. However, the author offers a voting function in the download section where OS/2 is listed. Go there and vote: an OS/2 version can't be that unlikely since XnView is more or less a frontend for NCONVERT and NVIEW, which already do exist as an OS/2 version (both are downloadable from that site, too). -> URL: http://www.xnview.com -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

Here is how the unofficial Russian Warp 4 fixpaks were created. With the the help of Yuri Proniakin many and others I have managed to create an unofficial Hungarian fixpak 15 and put the recipe on my OS/2 homepage. Parts of the page have been translated to english now. -> URL: http://xenia.sote.hu/~kadzsol -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

Pillarsoft changes service provider (from Wayne Swanson) |
We are moving: Our bandwidth has outgrown our current host for pillarsoft.net and we will be changing over to a new service provider in the next few days. We hope to make this transfer as seamless as possible but be aware that you may notice a few discrepancies over the course of the transition. In dealing with our new host, we have also noticed that some email has been incorrectly filtered from delivery by our old provider. It is possible that only his domain is affected and we hope this hasn't been the case with any of you but if so, please be aware of the current situation and hopefully it will be cleared up in the next few days. On another note: Our $99 special for the PillarSoft Suite (http://www.pillarsoft.net/suite.html ) will continue through Memorial day and end on June 4, 2001. We hope you are able to take advantage of our collection of 13 pieces of OS/2 and eCS specific software during this great offer. Thank you for your continued support of OS/2, eCS and PillarSoft. OS/2 and USB Site Updated (from Martin Iturbide) |
I had updated the site again, the most important thing added are the USB Ethernet Network Adapters that according to IBM's Device Driver On-Line Pak work under OS/2. A Drivers/Download area had been included. This only points the the last free available USB drivers. For the newer ones you need to have a paid subscription the IBM's Software Choice. I had also put some information about the "USB Resource Manager" for developer (or curious people) that want to learn more about that tool. Check it on the tools area. There had been also some little changes on the Navigation bar, etc. I'm still waiting for feedback about USB CD-ROMs and CD-RW running under OS/2 !!! -> URL: http://www.os2world.com/os2usb -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |
OS2World: New polls (from Martin Iturbide) |
There had been some changes at the OS2World.com Polls. The short poll at the main web page is about OS/2 and TV-Cards. The long poll is about what USB device will you like to see better support for under OS/2. eComStation mentioned on Slashdot (from Timur Tabi) |
Slashdot has an article on eComStation's imminent release. This is a major opportunity to let non-OS/2 users learn about the new future of OS/2 Warp. Unfortunately, most of the comments are anti-OS/2 FUD. I invite all OS/2 users to visit Slashdot and post pro-OS/2 comments and replies. You don't need an account to add comments, but it helps if you have one. -> URL: http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/05/08/004200&mode=nested -> comments: 3 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

The OS/2 community has been very responsive to our new postings.
