WarpZip and the Enhanced E Editor updated (from Wayne Swanson)
  • New in WarpZip (v3.5) is the ability to do clean up's in a more secure fashion. When expanding archives for a trial run, WarpZip offers a "Clean up" button that deletes the files as well as the objects that are created when they are unzipped. We have added a new page to the settings notebook to allow the user to have those files overwritten with nulls before they are deleted. Overwriting the files will make them inaccessable to anyone trying to recover your deleted data (without the help of some very expensive equipment).
WarpZip is $29 and is available through BMT Micro, Mensys and others.
  • The Enhanced E Editor has been updated. New features in v2.6 are:
    • F11 and F12 accelerator keys added for "Ring" navigation.
    • Allow opening several files from commandline by using wildcards. (Example: eee *.txt will load all txt files in the current directory into a ring)
    • Code templates follow auto-indent if it is on.
    • Added selected text jusification tool.
The Enhanced E is $25 and is available through BMT Micro, Mensys and others.

Well, finally next Public Beta got released today as late X-Mas present . AiR-BOOT is a Multi-Boot-Loader, which sits completely (including its setup) in the MBR, which means no real space on the harddisc is used. It has advanced anti-viral protection, colored Setup/BootMenu, special Linux support, Password-Protection and much more. This version is Public Beta again without any restrictions built-in. PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD this Public Beta to ANY FTP/HTTP SITE! Next version will include Hiding partitions/Partition Setup and perhaps some sort of FDISK-like tool.
Fixes this time:
  • Second Open-Public Beta Version
  • EZ-SETUP Detection (will not install on such systems)
  • Scrolling in Bootmenu now possible (if more than 14 bootable partitions)
  • Floppy: Get VolumeLabel and the Every-2-Seconds-Get Option are now functional.
  • AIRBSET may be executed from the floppy, where it will write to. previously this resulted into an error-message and a damaged disc
  • Delay for entering Setup got expanded

Cwaudio classes 0.1.0 (from Klaus Staedtler)
Chris Wohlgemuth has released the cwaudio classes 0.1.0. These classes are for seemless integration of the MMIO procedures for MP3 and OGG files written by Russel O'Connor http://www.math.berkeley.edu/~roconnor/.
After installation Ogg- and MP3 files are treated the same way by the WPS as the other audio files. They have their own Icons and the same menus as for example wave files. A doubleclick starts playback another one stops it. The convert menu item helps you decoding the file to wave without any other program. There's also a new open-item for volume.
The settings notebook of every audio file gets a new page added describing the audio characteristics like playtime or samplerate and you may view and change the ID3 tags of MP3 files using the settings notebook.

Opera/2 5.12 - second beta (from Frank Berke)
There seems to be a new release of Opera for OS/2. From the Readme:

Opera 5.2 beta 2 for OS/2 and ECS - build 24

The program is licensed by Opera software. Read LICENCE.TXT for more
information about your rights.

INSTALLATION
------------
Starting with beta 2, Opera for OS/2 doesn't need the Odin runtime
to be executed. All necessary files are packaged inside the main
distribution, except for WarpIN.

If you have Odin installed, it will not conflict with Opera installation
and will not be used by Opera.

The WPI archive has been created with WarpIn 0.9.14. If you have installed
an older version of WarpIN you must upgrate it.
WarpIN is a very easy to use installer/uninstaller for OS/2. Get it at
http://www.xworkplace.org or http://warpin.netlabs.org. You just have to
download the latest self-extracting archive and run it.

Afterwards you can simply run the self-extracting Opera for OS/2 distribution
and WarpIN will start the installation.

If you are installing on the top of a previous installation, the opera.ini
file will not be updated with new settings. This could lead to non-functional
features available in this beta.
Rename your opera.ini before going on, if you want to enable new features.

See the OS/2 page on the Opera website: http://www.opera.com/os2/

UNINSTALL
---------
If you want to remove Opera for OS/2 start WarpIN, go the Opera for OS/2 entry
in the application section. Select Opera and press the right mousebutton. Then
select "De-install package".

FUNCTIONS
---------
New features:
  • Printing
  • Java 1.3
  • OS/2 look&feel
  • OS/2 drag&drop
  • Instant messaging.

This release is missing:
  • Opera Mail.

Netscape 6.2.1 equivalent (from Reinhard Berger)
This is an OS/2 version of the base for Netscape 6.2.1. If you want to run a pretty stable build, this is it. Please report bugs through bugzilla, but also test them on nightlies to
see if they are fixed. I'm mainly looking for OS/2 specific bugs in this build (works on
Windows 6.2.1, doesn't work on OS/2)
Thanks

F Filemanager 4.64 (from Christian Hennecke)
On December 10th, Duy Nguyen and Michel Normand have released version 4.64 beta of F, the "Swiss army knive" of file managers. F is a freeware text-mode multi-platform application. Supported operating systems are OS/2, AIX, BSD, Linux, and Win32.
F is not only a very configurable file manager, but also offers an FTP/FXP client, an editor with syntax-highlighting, numerous tools for developers, simple e-mail and news clients, as well as small HTTP and FTP servers. F comes with its own FFP (F to F protocol) for file transfers and remote file execution, providing services for remote administration. Note that the interface is keyboard-only.

This new beta version includes important, partially OS/2-related fixes:
  • potential file corruption when uploading to an OS/2 FTP server (OS/2's standard FTPD.EXE) by adding 100 bytes
  • MKD command abnormally sent upon upload to FTP server
  • additional file information was not displayed for files linked via Toronto Virtual File System (TVFS)

InetPowerServer v0.9.4 (Beta) (from Terje Flaar°nning)
On Dec 9th 2001, The author Terje Flaar°nning released v0.9.4 (Beta) of his full featured Inet server package InetPowerServer (IPS). This new version of IPS has a number of great performance enhancement in the web server component including a dynamic memory document cache. A new problem tracking solution is also in place which automatically logs more information in case it should fail and you need to report a bug. For a full list of changes, check Appendix A in the IPS documentation available from the IPS site.
InetPowerServer will help you provide efficient and stable Inet services for e-mail, file transfers and web contents. IPS provides a common security setup for multiple services, an advanced virtual file system and flexible multi hosting or even multiple site personalities. Many of the recent extensions to the supported protocols (FTP, HTTP, POP3 and SMTP) are also implemented in IPS making it one of the most feature complete Inet serving packages around for any platform.
The IPS Beta Team is still open for anyone to join as long as they have a Yahoo ID! (for access to additional features) and have time to test and report back on most closed releases done within the IPS Beta Team. Inactive users will however be automatically removed from the IPS Beta Team after a while. Join the IPS Beta Team from the http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IPS-beta page.
Work has begun developing an IMAP component for inclusion into the IPS product to further enhance the e-mail features available to your clients. There is no fixed date for completion of this new component yet, but it will first reach the users of the IPS Beta Team before a public version with IMAP support will be made available.
The official IPS site can be found at http://www.InetPowerServer.com/ from where you can download the latest available version at any time. IPS is high quality software offered to you for free!

Best regards,
Terje Flaar°nning û author of InetPowerServer

eBayWatch/2 1.09c (from Ken Kirchner)
Ken has uploaded ver 1.09c of eBayWatch/2.
    <
  • New: "Print brief report" now allows for a subset of the page items. If there are multiple items selected (hilited), the report will only print the selected items. If you have filtered a page, only the visible
items will be printed. Multiple selections will override a page filter.
  • Doc: Command line option "/Txx" may be used to change page retrieval time. The program defaults to allowing 10 seconds for data to be returned for a URL call (note that this is each frame, not the total page). If you see excessive timeout errors you may benefit by increasing the timeout value. Place the "/T20" (or other timeout value) in the "Parameters" field for the program object.
  • Change: The "Bid Groups" window is now part of the "Bid Items" page. There are three radio buttons at the bottom of the bid page; "Detail", "Both" and "Groups". When you select "Groups", the window will
change to the Bid Groups view and a new button will appear - "Add Group". When you select "Both", the page will have the Bid Groups on the top, and the "Details" view on the bottom. The "Add Group" button will be visible. There will also be 2 new checkboxes, "Detail Titles" and "Auto Filter". If you uncheck "Detail Titles", the title bar in the detail container will be removed allowing visibility for more items. This will only be for this view, when you return to the full page "Details" view the titles are always visible. If you check "Auto Filter", the detail container will automatically be filtered to only show the items in whichever group you select in the groups container. When you uncheck it, all bid items are shown. You can use d'n'd as before (in the "Both" view), and the create bid group menu choices also work as before. You can also add to a bid group from the Interest page via pop-up menu choice "Add to Bid Group"
  • Fix: Failed to re-bid if you changed the bid amount after "Bid Seconds" If you changed your bid amount after the bid had been placed, but still before the end of auction, the AutoBid process would show the new bid amount, but not attempt to bid at the higher bid amount.
  • Change: Changes to a bid group default bid amount changes open auctions. If you change the default bid amount all the open auctions within the group are checked. Any that were equal to the original default bid will be updated to the new default amount.
There are also other "usability" changes in this drop. And a
significantly reduced shut down time. As always, if you notice anything strange, broken or unexpected, please let me know.
