Sane port updated to 1.0.22 (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Paul Smedley has updated his port of Sane to 1.0.22.
http://class='extlink'http://os2ports.smedley.info/

http://class='extlink'http://os2ports.smedley.info/index.php

Sane is a command line scanner package. I tried using the new version with Tame/2, the scanner GUI frontend for Sane, but it didn’t work for me. Paul will look at this.

Changes in this version:
"Updated to latest Sane CVS"

Download: http://class='extlink'http://download.smedley.info/sane-1.0.22-os2-20110226.zip
Requires: http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.3-csd3.zip

Please let Paul know if you find this software useful. He needs user
feedback to continue work on these projects. He maintains a bug tracker
for many projects at http://class='extlink'http://mantis.smedley.info It just requires a simple
registration.

If you’d like to help support continued development of this project (and

Quickmotion released as Open Source. (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Tom Harding has open sourced Quickmotion for OS/2 under the GNU GPL license.

The project is no longer supported or updated, but now the source code is available for any developer to coninue it and learn from the source code.

The source code is now available at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/qmos2/

You can surf the source code at:

http://qmos2.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/qmos2/

"QuickMotion is a set of multimedia CODECS for OS/2-eCS that provides the ability to view Apples’s QuickTime 1.0 format (files with the extension .MOV or .QT). It also has a QuickMotion VR viewer."

New GBM (Generalised Bitmap Module) release (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

I have finished a new release of most GBM modules with several enhancements. The main improvements are:

 - libraw updated to version 0.13.1 (dcraw 9.06)

-> several new cameras supported

-> an additional interpolation method is available

- libpng updated to version 1.5.1

- IJG (JPEG) updated to version 8c

- OpenJPEG (JPEG2000) updated to version 1.4

- The dependency to TCPIP32.DLL that came in with RAW support in GBM 1.70 is removed again. This should make GBM.DLL and thus all clients work on Warp 3 and Warp 4 without 32bit TCPIP stack installed working again.

GBM plugin 1.43 for Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox/SeaMonkey

------------------------------------------------------

This is a plugin for the Webbrowsers Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox and SeaMonkey available for OS/2 and eComStation that extends them for the support of reading all bitmap formats supported by GBM.DLL.

Get the package gbmos2plugins_lu142_moz143_bin.zip or the WarpIN installation package (see below). There is also a Mozilla XPI installer package available separately (also included in WarpIN package) which also allows automatic updating of the plugin.

GBM.DLL 1.72 and GBM command line tools

---------------------------------------

The Generalised Bitmap Module (GBM) is a library capable of loading and saving bitmap files in a variety of popular and less popular bitmap file formats. Programs may be written to use this code, and thus be able to access a variety of file formats without actually knowing what format the pictures are in, or any details about file format itself.

It comes with a useful set of command line bitmap manipulation tools.

Get package gbmos2_172_bin.zip or the WarpIN installation package

(see below).

Enhanced GBMV/GBMV2 Version 1.58

--------------------------------

GBMV2 is a fast and simple bitmap viewer and editor for the OS/2 and eCS Presentation Manager. GBMV is a simple bitmap viewer.

Get package gbmos2pm158_bin.zip or the WarpIN installation package

(see below).

Notes for eComStation 1.2/1.2R/2.0 users

----------------------------------------

Please read the installation instructions. eCS 1.2/1.2R/2.0 ships with

an old GBM.DLL (1.12) which prevents loading of the new GBM.DLL (1.72).

Please follow the instructions to use the new GBM.DLL for all programs as well as for eCS WPS features like bitmap previews.

Changelog />0.6.21577 (2001-02-21)
----------------------

Dmitry A. Kuminov:
- iphlpapi: Fixed a crash when building the adapter/interface/address tables
due to a bogus ioctl(SIOSTATRT) implementation in OS/2.
- kernel32: Implemented generating the high/low index values (using a CRC32
and a hash function on the fuill file name) and filling up the volume
serial number in a structure returned by GetFileInformationByHandle().
- kernel32: Implemented GetVolumePathName() API.
- kernel32: Disabled logging exceptions in release builds through RAS since
this involves .sym file reading and significantly slows down applications
that use exception handlers like traps for implementing application logic.
- kernel32: Fixed a bunch of OSLibDos* functions dealing with file names
that passed ANSI strings to the OS/2 APIs w/o first converting it to the
OEM codepage which caused "file not found" errors in various Win32 APIs
like GetFileAttributesEx() on file names Cyrillic, umlauts, etc.
- winmm: Accept handles returned by mixerOpen() as IDs in mixerGetDevCaps()
(according to MSDN) which fixes sound in applications using these IDs.
- dsound: Enumerate the default sound device twice in DirectSoundEnumerate()
(according to MSDN) to make applications relying on this work.

New version SearchPlus 2.0 on Hobbes (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

As of today an updated version of SearchPlus is avialable on Hobbes.

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/util/disk/SearchPlus200eu.wpi

The main difference with this version is the ability to search for directories as well as files and files within ZIP archives. The ini file structure has also been changed to correct some errors that could occur with data stored in it as well as a number of minor improvements and bug fixes.

For those of you that do not know about Searchplus a short description.

Search Plus is a fast file finder which can locate files, directories or files within a ZIP archive. It uses simultaneous multiple drive searching and one pass multiple file filters. Various search filters are available and include :

Searching for text in files (including files in a ZIP archive) String searches are not only ultra fast due to the use of the Boyer-Moore-Horspool algorithm, but there is minimal load on both the WPS and CPU even when multiple logical operations are specified.

Up to 4 groups of logical operators (AND, OR, NOT) when searching for strings both in files and extended attributes.

Search on attributes (On or OFF or don’t care)

Search on file modification date and time

Search on file size from to

Once files have been found, they can be selected, sorted, manipulated and inspected in a wide range of ways, even while more files are being found.

Both large files and the Trashcan are supported

Specific files and or types of files can be ignored as well as optionally ignoring hidden directories and specific paths.

Multi-lingual support - English, German, Dutch, Swedish, Italian and French

New font release: Midori Sans (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Midori Sans is a semi-condensed sans-serif font with styling similar to Frutiger, M+ or Myriad, but narrower and with a taller lowercase height that helps improve readability at small sizes. It should be well-suited for
use in menus and dialogs. Regular and bold weights are included.

http://class='extlink'http://users.socis.ca/~ataylo00/creative/fonts/midori/index.html

/>Unlike Workplace Sans/Gothic, Midori Sans is completely unhinted, so
it shouldn’t have the same issues as the former when it comes to
choosing a hinting level to use in Mozilla.
I’ve actually been using it (development versions) as my default UI
font in SeaMonkey for several months. I think it looks REALLY nice,
personally -- much better than Workplace Sans, even though it doesn’t
attempt to resemble WarpSans at all.

Here’s a screenshot of my SeaMonkey properties dialog:
http://class='extlink'http://users.socis.ca/~ataylo00/creative/fonts/midori/midori_browser.p />ng

Unfortunately, I haven’t figured out how to completely change ALL the
UI fonts... default form text, some tooltips, the about:XXX pages and
a few other things seem to still use Workplace Sans. But at least my
menus and dialogs look really nice now... :)

Firefox v4.0b12pre (20110210) and Seamonkey v2.1b3pre (20110210) Betas (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

New betas of Firefox and Seamonkey are now available. They feature the latest Mozilla code plus small refinements to the OS/2 features seen in previous betas.

New

---

Printing at 600 dpi is now supported, provided the page requires no more than 144mb to compose (an A4- or Letter-sized page uses 132mb at 600dpi but only 34mb at 300dpi).

If you use the apps’ built-in Postscript support and print directly to a PS printer, an experimental option may enable you to use printer features such as duplexing. See ’PRINTING.TXT’ in the exe’s directory for details.

SNAP users should no longer experience video corruption caused by the mouse pointer when DIVE is enabled. The apps are now able to detect whether SNAP is using a hardware- or software-generated mouse pointer.

These releases include a beta version of Exceptq v7.1 to create an exception report whenever a crash occurs within the app. They also include debugging files that have a ’.xqs’ extension. Please do not delete them. If you don’t want these reports to be created, add "SET NSPR_NO_EXCEPTQ=Y" to your config.sys.

Previous Enhancements

---------------------

Video: Dramatic reductions in CPU usage will be seen when viewing OGG videos, and to a lesser extent, WebM videos. Overall video performance should be noticeably improved for SNAP and GenGradd users running their displays in full-color mode, thanks to the implementation of DIVE.

Printing Support: All native printer drivers will work if their output resolution is set to 600 DPI or less. Mozilla’s built-in Postscript support is also available for use, as is its PDF support. Please read PRINTING.txt in the exe’s directory for details.

Memory Management: With a few trivial exceptions, the Mozilla apps no longer use any shared memory beyond what is needed to load their dlls. Problems that have been attributed to low or no shared memory should not occur.

Font Selection: The apps should do a better job of selecting DBCS fonts and fonts with less common font weights such as "Thin" or "Heavy".

Copy Link Location: A bug that caused characters to be deleted from URLs when using the ’Copy Link Location’ menu item has been fixed.

Both apps will occasionally "smear" the video when scrolling. In most cases, the easiest workaround is to resize the window slightly to force its redisplay.

Notes
-----

DIVE lets an app bypass PM’s graphics subsystem and write directly to your video card’s memory. This improves display speed but can cause problems on some systems. Use the following to disable DIVE:

- uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when possible".
In Firefox, it’s on the Options dialog’s ’Advanced->General’ tab.

In Seamonkey, this is in Preferences under ’Appearance->Content’.

- start the app in "safe mode" (use "/safe-mode" on the command line)

- add "SET MOZ_ACCELERATED=0" to config.sys.

Support

-------

Community support for these betas and all Mozilla apps is available through the newsgroups ’mozilla.dev.ports.os2’ or ’http://comp.os.os2.apps ’.

Messages posted to other forums may not be seen by the developers.

eCo Market: Week of remote control tools (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

The catalogue contains: more than 130 packages

eCo Market -- http://ecomstation.ru/ecomarket is an initiative of eCo Software: "The users need tools, they want to see the list of available applications not tales about powerful operating systems. That’s why we are working on the GUI catalogue aimed to deliver software to users fast."

 http://ecomstation.ru/projects/ecomarket/screenshots/eCoMarket-20110207b.png

Let’s collect remote control tools in the catalogue.

Currently we have 1 program only.

Whatsnew:

To use Java 6, to browse Internet you need additional fonts -

you can find this fonts in eCo Market. All fonts are packed to .wpi (easy to install).

How to support the project? Some proposals:

http://ecomstation.ru/projects/ecomarket/

Message for developers: Your program should be packed to 1 WarpIn package.

It may depend on known runtimes, all other libs should be included to the package.

VLC media player v1.1.7 for OS/2 (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

KO Myung-Hun has uploaded VLC media player v1.1.7 for OS/2 to Hobbes.

The cross-platform open-source multimedia framework, player and server VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player and multimedia framework capable of reading most audio and video formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, DivX, MPEG-1, mp3, ogg, aac ...) as well as DVDs (including menus), Audio CDs VCDs, and various streaming protocols. Read the readme.eng for installation instructions. I’ve successfully run this on my T61 with eCS 2.0. It is great to be able to play DVDs and even use the DVD menu. For more on VLC itself: http://class='extlink'http://www.videolan.org/vlc

Download: http://class='extlink'http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/apps/mmedia/video/players/vlc-1.1.7.zip

Requires: kLIBC v0.6.3, Qt 4.6.3GA

If you would like to support VLC on OS/2-eCS you can make a donation at http://class='extlink'http://www.ecomstation.co.kr/komh/donate.html>
