Randomizer 4.0 (from Paul Smedley) |
After exactly one year in stasis, Don Eitner has released Randomizer 4.0. Randomizer is a lightweight database built with the specific intention of selecting random items from lists (fields, arrays, etc). The Randomizer.cmd script is accompanied by DataInput.cmd which acts as the database creation and editing tool. Other front-ends could be easily coupled with DataInput.cmd but thus far no others are known to exist. This could be useful for many things such as developing quick characters for a story or role playing game, the basis of a lottery number picker, or theoretically scientific work involving random data. Primary download location: http://freiheit.syntheticdimension.net/os2-myapps.shtml Randomizer 4.0 is powered by Pun Technology. "Pun is a play on words()." To make a long story short, Pun Technology is a replacement for OS/2's Rexx words(), word(), and delword() functions which allows Randomizer 4.0 to use non-space characters as field delimiters in the data file. This allows more effective handling of fields which contain spaces without the need for special place holder characters as in previous versions of Randomizer. Randomizer 4.0 is donation-ware. If you like it you are asked to send $5 to encourage further development. If you don't like it, let me know what you don't like about it and maybe I can make it better. -> URL: http://freiheit.syntheticdimension.net/os2-myapps.shtml -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

RexxMail build 20010725.162603 (from Marcus de Geus) |
RexxMail is an e-mail client program that uses the facilities offered by the OS/2 Workplace Shell (WPS) to the full. RexxMail itself is a Classic REXX program that runs invisibly (i.e. minimized) in OS/2 VIO sessions. It works by using a number of program objects that call the program (RexxMail.CMD) with various switches. Associations between these program objects and mail message files enable RexxMail to perform its tasks using the WPS, which is still the best GUI around, bar none.

Larsen Commander 1.5.2 (from leifel@online.no) |
Today (July 23 2001) Leif-Erik Larsen has released version 1.5.2 of his popular GUI file manager and command processor, Larsen Commander.
Larsen Commander has a look and feel like the classic Norton Commander, but in a GUI environment. It combines the best of two very different worlds; - the command line and the file management panels. Both are available at the same time, and even in parallel while one or more commands are running in the background! Larsen Commander is extremely useful espessially for advanced users such as programmers and system administrators that knows the power and the value of having the command line possibilities and the file operation panels available at the same time and in the same shell window. In fact, you can use Larsen Commander almost exactly the same way as you are using the standard system shell, but with a large number of additional and powerful features, such as the console monitor being scrollable and not limited to those "stupid" 25 lines or so of the default OS/2 shell. But Larsen Commander is not only for the advanced users. Even the novice will find this piece of software very nice at hand. It makes the standard file operations a play, such as copying, moving and renaming files and directories. And of course the command line can be 100% disabled and hidden, for those who never uses it anyway. -> URL: http://home.online.no/~leifel/lcmd/index.html -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

QuickView for DOS (Multimedia) (from Timothy Sipples) |
For anyone interested in the ability to play multiple multimedia format with OS/2 Warp, I'd like to draw your attention to a great little utility called QuickView for DOS. Yes, that's right -- DOS! (Which means it runs beautifully under OS/2 Warp, of course.)
You can get QuickView for DOS (shareware evaluation copy) by visiting the homepage and also find out more about licensing QuickView source code. (Perhaps someone would like to develop a native player and/or plug-in? QuickView runs in a full screen DOS session, and for best results you'll need to make sure you have an audio adapter which supports SoundBlaster-type audio in DOS sessions. You should also follow the instructions in the QuickView documentation to change the DOS session's settings. Here's a list of the multimedia formats supported by QuickView for DOS:
