MIDI Station Sequencer 3.0 Beta 1 (from Christopher D. Hodges)
Just want to let you know that the new version is available. After some exhaustive testing I've found a few issues I need to resolve before I declare this version finished but they're not showstoppers. I'll probably be posting another version sometime on Sunday which will resolve the remaining issues. Please let me know what you think of the new look and feel.

Warpzilla 0.6 (from Michael Kaply)
I have made a Warpzilla build based on Netscape 6.01 available. This build is functionally equivalent to the IBM Web Browser which you have heard so much about. It includes translations for German, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portugese, Italian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. It includes SSL/PSM/NSS, whatever you want to call it. Java is NOT included. But there might be a version of Java coming out very soon that might work with it. Also, please do NOT report bugs on this release in Bugzilla. Bugs should be reported on the nightly builds which should resume soon. While we have tried to include many OS/2 fixes in this version that have made it into the trunk, not all are there.

Dual mode MGL/PM DIVE programming library (from Marty)
I have released an initial version of a graphics library capable of seamlessly toggling between a full screen graphics session (using MGL) and DIVE windowed operation. The application simply renders its video output to a display buffer and need not know whether it is operating in a PM window or full screen. I'm looking for feedback from the developer community and would like to grow this project into a general gaming or multimedia interface including video, audio, and input device control. The library was originally built with EMX in a.out style, but should be easy to modify to build with any OS/2 compiler. There are two components to the library:
  1. A server executable which manages the full screen session (MGLServer.Exe)
  2. A static library to be linked with your executable (dualmode.a)
The archive containing the source and binaries for MGLServer.Exe and can be found here.
The archive containing the source and binaries for dualmode.a as well as a sample application making use of the library can be found here. Although I haven't put together any ReadMes, the source is heavily commented and should be fairly straightforward to understand. The example provided in the dmlib archive should also make things fairly clear. If you'd like a more complex but complete example of how to use this library, ask me for the source code to SNES9x. You are free to do whatever you want with this source, including using it in a commercial product. The only exception that I'll place on the licensing is that it not be used to create a commercial product solely comprising the Dualmode library and MGLServer (in other words, you've got to have an application that uses it, you can't just sell it as is). Please send any and all feedback on this source to mamodeo@stny.rr.com.

CC65 - C crosscompiler for 6502 (from Mirco)
I'm proud to announce version 2.6.1 of CC65, a C crosscompiler / crossassembler combo for 6502 systems. CC65 has C and runtime library support for many of the old 6502 machines, including
  • The Commodore C64, C128 and the C16, C116, Plus/4 machines.
  • The CBM 600/700 family (programs run in bank 1).
  • Newer PET machines (not 2001)
  • The Apple ][ (library support by Kevin Ruland)
  • The Atari 8 bit machines (thanks to the Atari team)
  • GEOS for the C64 and C128 (GEOSLib by Maciej Witkowiak)
The libraries are fairly portable, so creating a version for other 6502s shouldn't be too much work. Binaries for DOS and and Windows will follow or may already be available at the time you read this. OS/2 packages will again be available, but since there are almost no downloads for OS/2, so the host platform may get dropped in the near future (again).

TiMidity 2.8.1 MCD (from Darwin O'Connor)
TiMidity plays MIDI and Module (.MOD) files. It does it in software without depending on any hardware MIDI support your soundcard might have. Sound quaility can be much higher because it limited by your CPU's power and memory rather then your soundcard's power and memory. TiMidity usally comes as a stand alone player. TiMidity MCD is a special version that installs at part of OS/2 Multimedia system so that most applications that played MIDI files through your soundcard before, now can play MIDIs through TiMidity at a higher quality. This includes the Multimedia Workplace Shell objects and the Plug-in pack for Netscape.
Improvements: Sound quality should be better then before. You can now play MOD files as well as MIDI files and you have the option of using SoundFonts as well as GUS patches. TiMidity no longer generates the C:\TIM.LOG file by default.

Enhanced E Editor 1.5 (from Wayne Swanson)
PillarSoft has updated their website with downloads of the latest version of the Enhanced E Editor.
New features in v1.5 are:
  • Character Stripping - Strips a selected number of characters from the beginning or end of selected lines.
  • Word Stripping - Strips a selected number of words from the beginning or end of selected lines.
  • Text Insertion - Inserts your text to the beginning or tags it on the end of selected lines.
  • Paragraphing Tool - Combines adjacent lines into paragraphs.
Add these new features to the upper, lower, mixed and toggle case tools along with space stripping and line sorting and you have the meat of some very powerful text formatting tools. Formatting text pasted from an html page, email or other source is no longer an arduous process. If you have a special need, the Enhanced E will even run your own plugins written in Rexx.
For example:
One of our early (and very good, I might add) customers wanted to swap characters at any cursor location (apparently to correct typing errors?). A tiny 800 byte plugin made it a hotkey event. A single-spacing plugin weighed in at a mere 700 bytes. That is not to say that plugins are limited in size or functionality, their limits are reached only by the users imagination and Rexx prowess. We won't bother you with the full feature list for the editor here but invite you to take a look at our website for more information. As has been the case from it's first release... there is no charge for this update.
The PillarSoft Suite has also been updated with the new versions and can be downloaded from our website.

New OS2 API Library (from Eric Lavoie Zeryx Software Inc.)
In the previous months i made different library available for Vispro Rexx and C users. Now after some work i made these same API available so that you can add them to any
project without the need for any Vispro products. The new APIs are a Progress Bar, 3D animated button, Transparent Object. All you need is the library and a C compiler, so far it as been tested on VAC++. I plan to make other object available down the road. If anyone has written some Window Class and whish to make them available to everyone, i can integrate them in the Library. So good Luck and good programming, we need more OS2 Programs so start coding :-) And please do not upload on hobbes for now i whish to measure the interest in this library, so if you upload it anywhere else i will not get an accurate download count. unless you can give me the info on the number of downloads per day i would prefer it remained on my web site.

WinWPI - Extracting .wpi-files under Win32 (from Cornelis Bockemühl)
WinWpi is a little command line tool running under WinXX that lets you list and extract the contents of the special WarpIN archives (*.WPI) there as a whole or selectively. It was written out of the need to get a file only available within a *.WPI archive from a working place without OS/2.
WinWpi is Open Source and GPL and uses mostly code from the WarpIN backend. Since there is no GUI it should be no or little effort to compile it also for other systems. Under OS/2 WIC.EXE from the WarpIN distribution does almost the same and more (also packing files etc.); only the selectivity when extracting files is less with WIC (only whole "packages").

SafeFire Development Kit (from Head of PPP development group)
New view and new functionality!
Today Link Guard Solutions updated it's web site and released first version of the SafeFire Firewall Development Kit. This new tool was created to make SafeFire PPP even more flexible. Anyone can easily create a DLL or REXX script that will integrate into SafeFire PPP and intercept every packet at single or multiple point and then analyze and decide if packet must be transmitted further. Thus this DLL can implement wide range of statistical or firewall software. Best third party modules may even be presented at Link Guard Solutions site. Check http://www.lgs.kiev.ua/devzone/devkit.shtml to receive more details and get your copy.

Regards.

Audio Data CDCreator V.046 (from Klaus Staedtler)
Chris Wohlgemuth has released Audio Data Cdcreator 0.46 This is a frontend making the creation of your audio- or data-CDs easier. It's a new WPS folder class which hides you from the several options of cdrecord and mkisofs. Create your CD entirely via Drag'n'Drop. You start creating a new CD project using a template in your templates folder. Just put files and folders or shadows of them into the Creator-folder, chose the options and press the 'Write'-button that's all. This frontend is fully WPS-aware cause it's a child of a normal folder class and inherits all the functionality of its parent class.
New with V0.46 (25.Feb.2001):
  • Settings for flyover help
  • Some polishing of settings pages for Warp 4
  • Predefined grabber settings
  • Option for TRANS.TBL files
  • Priority settings for onthefly.exe changed
  • Bugfix: When calling mkisofs for mulstisession the bus was comitted
  • Launchpad toolbar
  • Bugfix: CD was ejected after each track when in TAO mode.
  • Audio CD writing with several writers at the same time possible. This doesn't mean simultaneous writing of the same data on several drives. (you need the new ASPI-router for this feature).
  • Bugfix: Because of a race condition renaming of waves sometimes failed.
  • Grab status for Leech, cdda2wav and JCDRead.
Now using z! for format query of MP3 (if avaiable). So you may use all MP3s for writing z! is able to decode. Thanks to dink for adding the option. You need z! from 2001/01/23 or above.

PPtP (Point to Point tunneling Protocol) for OS/2 (from Roderick Klein)
On that site you can find the first version of the PPtP protocol for OS/2. Its has some disadvantages, to say the least. Please look at my webpage for details. Also please don't copy this file, point people to the website. When the protocol is updated, people can then at least always find the latest version.
On the same page you can also find the the sources of the ported Linux code, the patched XF86SUP driver and the sources of an unpatched xf86sup.sys. If somebody could modify these sources the protocol should also function on Aurora based OS/2 versions.
