CNN-Artikel about NetworkOS - A reply from the author (from Joerg Sievers)
I felt free to write the author a mail, that he has forgotten to write something abou THE networkOS and we have no chance to vote for it. His answer let OS/2ers hope for a better article next time:
Thanks for the note. Funny how these things work. James and I wrote the article for Network World and CNN picked it up. They put the voting stuff on their site... We've gotten a few requests for WSeB - we'll definitely consider it for the next showdown...

Rexx page updates (from Wayne Swanson)
The "Rexx Snippets and Code for OS/2 & VisPro/Rexx" web pages have been updated with an additional routine and an update.

The new snippet comes from Doug Rickman (easily our most prolific contributor) and sets up generic routines for initialization and loading of ini files that can be plugged into your program with just a bit of tweaking. The title to look for once you are there is "Generic "Ini" Loading Routine".

We have also updated the "Get Boot Drive" routine to include the SysBootDrive call if it is present and fall back to alternatives if it is not present.

As an aside:
If you have written and I haven't answered with my usual speed and "savoir-faire" (OK, just joking) it is because the isp I have most of my email routed through is having a mail server problem that they hope to have fixed (or exorcized) in the next day or so. Please be patient and cross your fingers that it all gets here eventually. If the problem persists or you need to contact me, I have redirected the wswanson@pillarsoft.net temporarily to another isp that Iwill check periodically.

My OS/2 programming links page has been updated again. There is one new section and 37 new links, for a total of over 250 links. My OS/2 programming links page is a VERY comprehensive list of OS/2 programming resources on the Internet. Every OS/2 programmer should have this URL among their bookmarks. You won't find such a complete list of programming references for any other operating system.

OS/2 in focus at IACT (from D. Gartner)
In addition to our new 24x7 Report, "The Keys to the Millennial E-Mailbox," we just posted Issue #7 of the IACT Quarterly Newsletter.
The focus in our new issue is clearly on operating systems -- especially OS/2!

"An Adventure with DEBUG.COM, or, How a Single XLS Spreadsheet Can Ruin Your Day"
When OS/2 user Tim O'Connor tried to get his foot through the door of a potential employer, he found himself vying against a Microsoft Excel compatibility problem. The XLS spreadsheet sent to him by the job recruiter refused to open in his favorite OS/2 apps-- and he didn't have MS-Windows 9x. Check out his commentary to see if he opened the file and if he got the job or just another MS-Headache.

"The Big Blue-Redmond Connection"
From Windows NT and OS/2, to VMS and FUD, this article traces the connections between different operating systems, including how they were developed and who deserves the credit or blame. Where does OS/2 fit into that picture of flaws and innovations? OS/2 is the better mousetrap that Microsoft needed to build Windows NT. So if today's users of OS/2, Windows 2000 and NT want the big picture with no corners cut, they need to look at how OS/2 and NT first connected, then diverged-- and why the companies of IBM and Microsoft did so as well.

...plus two more articles in our IACT Quarterly Newsletter.

Everyone who send me information will have the chance to win one of two lifetime licences for Tyra/2.

I've written a brief guide including links to files needed to add Type1 and Truetype fonts to Xfree86/OS2. Addition of TrueType fonts is quite important if you want to use Gimp/2 and do any artwork with text as most free decorative fonts are only available in TrueType.

I tested Autoget/2 and I'm just publishing an illustrated report on my web site about this resumer for Netscape downloads on OS/2. Fantastic, this freeware by the young brazilian programmer D.J. Caetano runs really
fine, as GetRight for Windows, and all broken downloads are secure and quickly authomatically resumed!
