GNU Barcode ported to OS/2 (from Mark Crocker)
With all of the interest in barcodes being generated by the free availability of :CueCat barcode scanners at Radio Shack, I thought it might be a good idea to compile GNU Barcode 0.95 on OS/2. Source code, libraries and executables for GNU Barcode 0.95 are now available.
GNU Barcode 0.95 is a FREE barcode printing program that produces postscript output suitable for use with Ghostscript. GNU Barcode supports a wide range of barcode formats including UPC, EAN, ISBN, Code39, Code128 and others. The :CueCat is able to process all of these formats assuming your printer is good enough to render them clearly. I found that all, but the tinyest compressed formats work well with :CueCat even when reading barcodes printed on my ink jet printer.

Nice OS/2 Enhancer 4.3 (from Sergey Posokhov)
Nice OS/2 Enhancer, the well-known free utility for improving the OS/2 Presentation Manager, was updated to version 4.3. Forced compatibility with:
  • Fix #1 for "Aurora"- no wallpaper in Rooms (internal security)
  • Lotus WordPro - flicker when printing (very annoying bug)
  • HOBLink X-Server - no "Close window" button (don't know why)
  • lSwitcher - Rooms feature turned OFF (my curve hands)
No new features were added, so program works as stable as possible :-) The Nice OS/2 Enhancer adds new features to the OS/2 operating system such as the ability to:
  • Move an image into all windows by means of mouse or keys,
  • Change frames for all windows,
  • Extend your workplace by new "Rooms" around the Desktop,
  • Define keys to perform various actions,
  • Attach any network drive or FTP folder from file dialogs,
  • Manage the priority for some applications,
  • Remove items from the Window list,
  • Arrange text, WPS and Java windows by center of the screen,
  • Hold "Num Lock" always "ON" or "OFF",
  • ...and more.
I use it day by day and think that this is a great "run-time" Fix for OS/2 Warp.

SysInfo/2 0.67 (from Alexey Smirnov)
SysInfo/2 project is updated again. Now its version is 0.67
Main changers are:
  • MPTN identification algorithm rewroted again. All MPTN peculiarity are now taken into consideration, so I think SysInfo/2 will work better. Note: this version of SysInfo/2 can determine all types of Network Interface cards and Protocols only if /PROTOCOL (for NIC description files) and /MACS (for Protocol description files) directories are subbdirectories of /IBMCOM. What does it mean? You can move entire /IBMCOM directory somewhere from drive C:, but you cann't move /MACS or /PROTOCOL directories separately from /IBMCOM to another location. New version of SysInfo/2 will not work in that case, so, please, do not send me bugreports if you move your /MAS or /PROTOCOL directories in that manner.
  • Video adapter and video memory identification algorithm rewroted again. For now SysInfo/2 know and can determine all Video cards are supported by SDD Beta 32, plus allmost all Video adapters that are supported by OEM (all that I can find).
  • Possible memory leaks corrected in some basic SysInfo/2 classes.
  • On "Network" page a new option is added. Now you can choose your Internet/Intranet LAN adapters installed in your system (LAN0-:-LAN7) and see appropriate IP address and Network masks.
  • MMOS2 identification algorithm rewroted. So, may be now allmost all SysInfo/2

What I can not correct for now:
  • SysInfo/2 main window resizing - I really do not know how I can do that using Sibyl classes.
  • 100% CPU usage and traps while Multimedia for OS/2 is analizing - there are only errors that comes from IBM MMOS2 - I don't do somewhat else than collecting information about multimedia adapters and their properties. More ower - I took all my Multimedia code from public Help files comes from IBM DDK. ;-))

ParamBSpline2 - Curve fitting/Data analysis program (from Doug Rickman)
I have placed a curve fitting program on Hobbes. ParamBSpline2: A program to generate a smooth curve from sequential points in n-dimensional data. It can be used to:
  • Smooth a set of data
  • Insert additional points between existing points
  • Reduce the number of data points
  • Obtain estimates at fixed intervals
  • Obtain estimates at specified points.
This is a program of use to scientists, engineers and others who must modeldata. The program does not suffer from the most common limitations of curve fitting programs. For example:
The data values do not need to satisfy a monotonicity requirement. In other words a given X may have more than one Y value. See the illustration in the zip file. The closeness of fit is controllable several ways. Ouput spacing is flexible. The program is operating system independent. It uses only ANSII standard REXX. Documentation in OS/2 and .html formats are provided. The highly commented and the source code is included in the package.

Digitize2 - Final (from Doug Rickman)
I have placed the final version of Digitize2 in Hobbes. In a little while I will get the source code up there also. The program now does everything I hoped to achieve when I started. If there is something else that someone wants we will have to discuss it. Again,
I thank those who helped test it and gave feed back. This release incorporates smoothing and resampling based on parametric bsplines. It also uses the SFX installer. Digitize2 lets you digitize and measure distances from an image using your mouse. You can zoom in and pan around the expanded image. I use it to convert old technical data published in journals to a digital form as well as digitize maps. The output is ASCII. A DXF and IDRISI export facility is also provided. Digitize2 addresses the special problems inherent in this type of work. First, it is rather easy to scan the printed material, but
getting it aligned accurately is a nuisance. Second, many scanners and certainly most zerographic reproductions are not uniformly scaled. Therefore, Digitize2 by default corrects for rotated images and it does a linear correction for scale distortions. Digitize2
allows the user to also edit the image. This will be done automatically during digitizing or optionally using the various paint tools available. This can greatly simplify keeping track of progress when working on complex imagery. Finally, you can move digitized
points, link to existing lines and generate smoothed lines using a very powerful bspline algorithm.

MGL SNES9x updated (from Marty)
SNES9x is an emulator for Nintendo's 16 bit home gaming console, the Super Nintendo. It featured sequels to most of the games that the 8 bit Nintendo made famous, as well as having some new gems of its own. Through the magic of Scitech's Multiplatform Graphics Library (MGL), this gaming experience can now be brought natively to OS/2 users.

The OS/2 port of SNES9x has been updated with the latest changes from the official source tree bringing the core up to revision 1.32 (the former release was based on version 1.29 of the code).

Here's what's new and different:
  • Core update fixed bugs in several games (Battletoads is one of them)
  • Now using an assembly SPC700 core (faster!)
  • Completely reworked frameskip algorithm (faster for machines that required frameskipping)

Requirements:
  • SDDHELP.SYS build 113 or higher (included)
  • DART support
  • EMX .9d runtime libraries

WarpIN 0.9.5 and XWorkplace 0.9.5 (from Ulrich Moeller)
Just in time for Warpstock Europe, WarpIN and XWorkplace have both been updated to V0.9.5. Both updates are mostly for bugfixing.
  1. WarpIN V0.9.5 has been released.
WarpIN is intended to become the new universal OS/2 installer. It is becoming more and more popular among OS/2 developers because of its flexibility and ease of use. It has full system configuration (CONFIG.SYS, WPS classes, WPS objects) and can fully undo all the changes to your system again. This is mainly a maintenance release.
  2. XWorkplace V0.9.5 is out also.
XWorkplace is the most feature-rich freeware Workplace Shell enhancer on the planet, and even better, it is open source. XWorkplace is the successor to my popular XFolder utility and has become a Netlabs project. In addition to the well-known WPS enhancements added by XFolder already, we now have a trash can, more CONFIG.SYS settings, most of the features of WarpEnhancer, ouse-button-3 scrolling, improved WPS notebook settings pages, a much better "WPS Class List", full sound schemes support in the "Sound" object, and much more.
This new version finally attempts to fix the problems with XShutdown and INI files. Besides, object hotkeys should work now.
To install XWorkplace, I recommend using the latest WarpIN also. See my home page for detailed information and download addresses:
http://www2.rz.hu-berlin.de/~h0444vnd/os2.htm. WarpIN and XWorkplace are Netlabs projects, released under the GNU General Public Licence. The source code is available on the Netlabs CVS server. See www.netlabs.org/nosa and my home page for details. We have created four mailing lists at www.egroups.com.
  • warpin-user
  • warpin-dev
  • xworkplace-user
  • xworkplace-dev
for WarpIn and XWorkplace users and developers, respectively. We are grateful for feedback on these mailing lists.
Note: If you have linked to the above address of my home page, please update your links to point to xworkplace.netlabs.org and warpin.netlabs.org instead, because my home page will change in the near future.
PS: If you want to learn more about WPS programming, come to Warpstock Europe. I'll be doing a presentation about WPS and especially XWorkplace programming.
