| ThinkFree Office and OS/2 (from Frank Berke) |
After I have read the German news in Heise Ticker about the MS-compatible Java Office with the possibility to save my data on a server I have written a mail to ThinkFree. Here is their answer:We do not have any plans currently to support ThinkFree Office on OS/2. We have had in the past, however, users running ThinkFree Office on OS/2 (I am not sure how they did this, but apparently they made our caching applet into thinking it was one of our supported systems (interesting!). We currently only allow users to download ThinkFree Office if they are running Windows or Red Hat Linux. In the future we will be supporting ThinkFree Office on additional platforms (more blends of Linux and also the Mac). We may also allow for downloads from operating systems we do not support, though I expect this will be a bit longer before this happens (currently we are still in beta). | A new pre-release of the OS/2 version of the Mozilla browser is available.
Henry Sobotka released a OS/2 build of Mozilla Milestone 16++ (with some extensions of the upcoming M17 release). You also need this gcc library and the latest fixes. This version already gives a good impression about improvements of the new browser engine, even though this is still a alpha release. Rumours are telling that IBM is thinking about a new name for the OS/2 version. | OS2.org is back after one week downtime.
Last tuesday we had a major hardware problem, which caused a system crash. So we checked the hardware last weekend and found out that the harddisk (IBM DNES 18.3GB U2W) crashed. After some long tests the system is now back online. The data has been restored with a 3 days old backup, all missing news and forum entries will be added later. If you find any problem with OS2.org, please let us know ! Write a email to webteam@os2.org. | OS2.org will be offline today approximately from 15.30h until 16.30h (CET) because of server updates.
