Hexglass v1.0.0 (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

HexGlass is a Tetris-like puzzle game based on a hexagonal grid.

Ten different types of blocks continuously fall from above and you must arrange them to make horizontal rows of hexagonal bricks.

Completing any row causes those hexagonal blocks to disappear and those above move downwards. The blocks gradually fall faster and the game is over when the screen fills up and blocks can no longer fall from the top.

Agena - a new procedural programming language (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Hello,

I would like to introduce you to a new language called Agena.

Agena is an easy-to-learn procedural programming language designed to be used in scientific, educational, linguistic, graphical, and many other applications, including scripting.

The syntax resembles very simplified Algol 68 with elements taken from Maple, Lua and SQL.

You may download Agena, its sources, its manual from

http://class='extlink'http://agena.sourceforge.net

Agena binaries are available for Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris, Linux, OS/2 & eComStation, Haiku, and DOS.

I will be very happy if you take the time to send me any useful feedback.

Thank you.

Lzip v1.11 (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Lzip is a lossless data compressor based on the LZMA algorithm, with very safe integrity checking and a user interface similar to the one of gzip or bzip2. Lzip decompresses almost as fast as gzip and compresses better than bzip2, which makes it well suited for software distribution and data archiving.

Lziprecover is a data recovery tool for lzip compressed files able to repair slightly damaged files, recover badly damaged files from two or more copies, and extract undamaged members from multi-member files.

2010-09-16 Antonio Diaz Diaz

* Version 1.11 released.

* Added new option `-0’ which produces a compression speed and ratio comparable to those of `gzip -9’.

* fast_encoder.h fast_encoder.cc: New files.

* main.cc: Match length limit set by options -1 to -8 has been reduced to extend range of use towards gzip. Lower numbers now compress less but faster. (-1 now takes 43% less time for only 20% larger compressed size).

* encoder.cc: Compression of option -9 has been slightly increased.

* lziprecover.cc: Added new option "--merge" which tries to produce a correct file merging the good parts of two or more damaged copies.

* lziprecover.cc: Added new option "--repair" for repairing a 1-byte error in single-member files.

* decoder.cc (decode_member): Detect file errors earlier to improve efficiency of lziprecover’s new repair capability.

This change also prevents (harmless) access to uninitialized memory when decompressing a corrupt file.

* lziprecover.cc: Added new option "--force".

* lziprecover.cc: Added new option "--output".

* lziprecover.cc: Added new option "--split" to select the until now only operation of splitting multimember files.

* lziprecover.cc: If no operation is specified, warn the user and do nothing.

* main.cc: Fixed warning about fchown’s return value being ignored.

* decoder.cc: "-tvvvv" now also shows compression ratio.

* main.cc: Set stdin/stdout in binary mode on MSVC and OS2.

* New examples have been added to the manual.

* testsuite: "test1" renamed to "test.txt"

* Matchfinder types HC4 (4 bytes hash-chain) and HT4 (4 bytes hash-table) have been tested and found no better than the current BT4.

[Updated] Firefox & Seamonkey with Printing Support (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

New beta versions of Firefox & Seamonkey with printing support are now
available. These betas are part of a project sponsored by Mensys to
provide full printing support in the Mozilla apps.

In Phase I, printing via CUPS or directly to many Postscript-enabled
printers is supported. Printing using native drivers such as OMNI,
LASERJET, etc. is not supported yet but will be in Phase II.

Firefox v4.0b7pre is available from:
http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/firefox-20100919.zip /> or
http://class='extlink'http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/firefox-20100919.zip /> Seamonkey v2.1b1pre is available from:
http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/mozilla/seamonkey-20100919.zip /> or
http://class='extlink'http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/seamonkey-20100919.zip

These betas are based on newer versions of the Mozilla code and should
be more stable than the previous releases. Like the previous versions,
they use Exceptq v7 to generate debugging reports should the app crash.
Printing support is largely unchanged.

Printing Features
-----------------
* If you select a printer that uses a native Postscript driver (i.e. any
printer that supports Postscript or any printer set up to use CUPS), the
Mozilla app will create PS output using parameters taken from the driver.
However, it won’t actually use that driver; instead, it will send the
output to the spooler via the IBMNULL driver. IBMNULL should already be
installed on most systems; if not, you will have to reinstall it.
* If you select a printer that uses a native raster driver (i.e. any other
type of driver such as EPOMNI), a PDF file will be created as is currently
done. However, a file dialog will pop up so you can change the target’s
name and directory.
* Any time you get a ’Print to file’ dialog, you can force the output to
PS or PDF by setting the file’s extension appropriately. This way, even
when native drivers are supported, you’ll still be able to get PDF output.
* Unlike the current implementation, this version won’t create an empty
file on your Desktop when you use Print Preview.
Notes about Printing
--------------------
* Support for Postscript printers is uneven. Most print without any
problems. However, some don’t, and no amount of experimentation has
succeeded in getting them to print. If your model doesn’t work, we
ask for your patience until native driver support is implemented.
No problems printing via CUPS have been reproted.

* In order to send output through IBMNULL, the program adds it to the
printer’s list of supported drivers. If you open the printer object’s
Properties notebook to the ’Printer driver’ page, you’ll find both the
PS driver and IBMNULL are selected in the upper box. To avoid problems
when queueing several print jobs, it isn’t removed/deselected when done.
As long as the PS driver remains the default (i.e. it’s selected in the
lower box), this shouldn’t cause any problems - if it does, please let
me know.

* Printing directly from an email window in Seamonkey fails. Instead,
open ’Print Preview’, then select the ’Print’ button.
Exceptq
-------
* If the app encounters a fatal error (i.e. crashes), Exceptq will emit
a two-tone beep and generate an exception report in the exe’s directory.
The report’s name is based on the process & thread ID of the thread that
crashed, and has an extension of ’.TRP’ (e.g. 003A_1.TRP). Reports are
usually 30-50kb but may be larger.
* While most of the report is of little interest to users, at the end is
a list all dlls loaded into the process. It my be worthwhile to scan it
for dlls that shouldn’t be there, such as dlls loaded from another Moz
app or dlls for plugins that you didn’t know were still installed.
* Please do NOT email or post these reports unless requested. We still
have to work out an orderly system for collecting and acting on them.

Software: Web Family Tree version 1.8 (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Web Family Tree (WFT - freeware) has just been updated to version 1.8.
You can download it from
http://class='extlink'http://www.pmoylan.org/pages/os2/wft.html />or
http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.pmoylan.org/software/wft18.zip />or from Hobbes. Source code is also available for download.

WFT is a CGI application that lets you display your family tree in a web
browser.

LIST OF CHANGES since version 1.7

In recognition of the fact that screen resolutions have
increased with time, the partial tree display is now
clipped at 120 rather than 80 columns.
Now can handle CONC and CONT records in any combination.
Allowed for NOTE records inside RESI records.

TiMidity++ 2.13.2 OS/2 port updated (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

TiMidity++ 2.13.2 for OS/2 version has been updated to preview release 2:
http://class='extlink'http://users.socis.ca/~ataylo00/programming/ports/

TiMidity++ is a music player for MIDI files and similar formats. This version is a ’standalone’ player; that is, a normal application (not a MCD or codec).

This port includes a Presentation Manager GUI interface, which is based on the old TimidPM build originally written by Darwin O’Conner for TiMidity version 0.2i (I’ve improved and updated it a bit).

While this build seems to work well, it has not been tested very widely; also, there are more updates planned for the GUI, which is still a bit crude. Therefore, this build is classified as a "preview" (beta) release rather than a finished product.

Unlike preview release 1, this version is provided as a full WarpIN install package. It should be installable over version 2.10.4. (Note that the WPI includes the file TIMIDITY.CFG, so if you have your own configuration file in the target directory, it will be overwritten unless it’s newer than March 2008.)

NOTE: As with all versions of TiMidity, you WILL need separate audio patch files (either SoundFonts or GUS patches) in order to play MIDIs properly. I recommend the EAWPatches collection, which I have also made available as a WarpIN package (on Hobbes); the TiMidity WPI will link to it automatically if it is in the same directory.
See the program release notes (available on the website) for more information.
