Alternative TLDs also for OS/2 users (from Joerg Sievers)
The German Heise-Ticker reported that the German Chaos Computer Club e.V. (CCC) does not like the power of the ICANN and the root-server from Network Solutions which handles all TLDs (Top Level Domains) in the internet. The CCC will create a new, alternative world with own TLDs. They would be not the first in the community: A well known guy, Paul Garrin from Ney York, serves over 100 alternative domains on his Name.Space service which includes TLDs which are not stored on the root-server from Network Solutions. If you are interested in such services they also have an instruction for OS/2 users to use their DNS.

Stardock Magazine December 2000: Sad OS/2 News (?) (from Stardock Magazine)
Extracted from Stardock Magazine December 200 (eMail):
## Sad OS/2 News ##
Some of you may already be aware of this but as of January 31, 2001, IBM is going to
be ending its defect support on OS/2 Warp 4. In its place OS/2 users have two paths:
  1. Purchase the OS/2 Convenience Pack
  2. Purchase eComStation (Stardock’s recommended upgrade path for existing OS/2 users).

  3. You can find out more about eComStation at:
    http://www.indelible-blue.com/software/ecs.cfm
    and
    http://www.touchvoicecorp.com/eComStation.html
However, both of these products target the corporate user. That doesn’t mean end users can’t use it, it’s just that now it’s clear that OS/2’s presence in the consumer market is officially ending as regular users will not be able to purchase OS/2 anymore at a store. Moreover, supporting OS/2 software has become increasingly expensive since the number of people who are familiar with OS/2 decreases and thus training a new person to support OS/2 software is very time consuming. And since the OS/2 market is no longer expanding, we’ve reached the point where we’ve pretty much sold all the OS/2 software we’re likely going to sell barring making new versions or creating new software. As a result, effective January 31, 2001, Stardock will be discontinuing its OS/2 software. We are not eliminating our free technical support (our news groups and email) but free phone support will be phased out.
Stardock has enjoyed being part of the OS/2 community for all these years. Most of our OS/2 customers have migrated to other platforms, the majority of them are still with us now on Windows. But we feel we cannot continue to sell our OS/2 software when we aren’t able to provide the same level of support that we’re able to provide to our Windows users.
We will be continuing to sell our OS/2 software up until January 31, and those products can be found at: http://www.stardock.com/products/os2warp.html
For those of you who still use OS/2 and have no plans to migrate, we wish you the best. OS/2 is still a terrific operating system featuring great technology.

Hidden Japanese OS/2 file repository (from Timur Tabi)
I just discovered a file repository with dozens of OS/2 applications that I've never heard of before. Unfortunately, everything is in Japanese, but if you read the URLs for all the links, you can make your way around. It looks like there are some real gems in there, including a lot of MIDI stuff (who would have guessed?!?!). Maybe someone who can read Japanese and English can translate these pages?
