Audiostation Alpha 19 (from The latest build is available and includes thefollowing additions:Christopher Hodges)
The latest build is available and includes the following additions:
  1. Information panel at the bottom of the window that displays the audioform properties and time.
  2. In the multi-track mode the mute button now works so you can mute an individual track.
  3. Better error-handling. If it can't find any filters it will tell you. If it can't read an audio file it will inform you.
  4. The record window is viewable. Doesn't do anything yet -- but its there. Press the record button and you'll see it. :>)
  5. Pop-up menu on the view window. Isn't connected to anything and will be expanded.
This is really a release to help out the 2 people who were having problems playing wave files previously. There's no new earth-shattering functionality -- that will come in a few days. But anyway please try it out and tell me what you think about it.

'Audiostation' group in Yahoo! also have the files and the mails available.

AudioStation Alpha Build 16 (from Cristopher Hodges)
Wanted to let you know that the latest build of Audiostation is available for you to download and try out.
I have completely reworked the playback engine and have fixed quite a number of bugs such as:
  1. Choppy playback
  2. Crackling and/or popping during playback
  3. Excessive load times for large wave files
  4. I accidentally included an older copy of of the wave filter with the version 15 release. This has been rectified with the version 16 release.
I have cleaned up the entire interface and made it much more efficient. There is lots more to do though so please don't expect perfection. Once everyone is happy with the playback the features will come very quickly. There's a lot of code written for editing and pasting but I haven't turned it out for testing yet until the basics are covered. As before please post your finds here to the
newsgroup.
IMPORTANT - You should DEFINITELY change the audio settings to use the default buffers and buffer size. Do this in the settings notebook. Click the "Use default" checkbox, click apply, shut down AudioStation and open it up again.

Make 3.79.1 (for testing) (from John Poltorak)
GNU Make is an important program for anyone compiling programs with EMX/GCC. Unfortunately on OS/2 we have had to use old versions of Make for a long time. The most recent of which is v3.76.1, but there are many different releases of this port and they do contain a number of bugs, some different from other releases, so it makes it particularly difficult to accurately report any problems . Now there is a new port of 3.79.1 and it would be nice to get this tested as rigorously as possible, so if you do use Make, please give this new port a test and report any problems so that they can be corrected.

Sane 1.07 (from Klaus Staedtler)
Franz Bakan has ported Scanner Access Now Easy (Sane) 1.07 to OS/2
SANE is a universal scanner interface. The value of such a universal interface is that it allows writing just one driver per image acquisition device rather than one driver for each device and application.

Normal Player 5.Feb release (from Klaus Staedtler)
Darwin O'Connor has updated the normal player
Normal Player is an audio and video player for OS/2. It supports any format supported by MMOS/2. Unlike most players these days, the interface resembles a standard OS/2 application. It is currently in the early stages of creation, so it of limited use, but it can actually play files.
Update on the Feb 5th. Display Option dialog works and preferences and colors now saved.

VTeX/2 7.53 (from Timo Maier)
VTeX/2 is a TeX program for OS/2, which can generate PDF or PostScript
output immediately from the TeX source file. VTeX/2 comes with a comprehensive LaTeX system, including many additional fonts and macro packages, as well as the Bibtex and Makeindex programs. A basic plain TeX system is provided, too. In contrast to pdfTeX, VTeX supports inclusion of PostScript images (EPS), as well as inline PostScript programming, even when generating PDF output. Packages such as PStricks, PSfrag and draftcopy can be used with VTeX. For more information on the built-in PostScript interpreter (GeX), see the GeX page. In contrast to traditional TeX systems, no intermediate DVI files are generated, no "dvi driver programs" are required, and there is no need to care for their sometimes fussy setup. The common PostScript and PDF viewers Ghostscript and Acrobat Reader are to be used for (pre)viewing and
printing.
VTeX's output is immediately suitable for public distribution, e.g., over the WWW, since PDF and PostScript are standardized document formats. PDF files generated by VTeX version 7.30 and above do not conflict with Acrobat Reader 5.
Actually, VTeX/2 is a partial port of the VTeX/Win TeX compiler by
MicroPress Inc. It does not include the shell and/or visual tools and does not support HTML generation. The good news is that VTeX/2 is free. VTeX/2 requires Warp 3 or better, and at least 16Mb of physical memory.
What is new ?
  • Version 7.53 of the VTeX compiler,
  • EC/TC fonts in Type 1 format,
  • ArabTeX with related Arabic and Hebrew fonts in Type 1 format,
  • ...and more, see the file NEWS.

Update: WarpIN and XWorkplace 0.9.16 released (from Ulrich Moeller)
After a long, long wait, WarpIN and XWorkplace have both been updated to V0.9.16.
  1. WarpIN V0.9.16 has been released.

WarpIN is intended to become the new universal OS/2 installer. It is becoming more and more popular among OS/2 developers because of its flexibility and ease of use. It has full system configuration (CONFIG.SYS, WPS classes, WPS objects) and can fully undo all the changes to your system again.

V0.9.16 hopefully fixes some problems many people were having with V0.9.14.
  2. XWorkplace V0.9.16 is out also.

XWorkplace is the most feature-rich freeware Workplace Shell enhancer on the planet, and even better, it is OpenSource. XWorkplace is the successor to my popular XFolder utility and has become a Netlabs project.

For details, please refer to the download address below.

V0.9.16 fixes a large number of bugs that people have found in earlier versions. In addition, you get a bunch of new features -- for example, "turbo folders", which make all your folder populates much faster.

    Note:
To install XWorkplace V0.9.14, you also need WarpIN V0.9.14 or higher, since XWorkplace now comes as a self-installing executable. I recommend using V0.9.16 to avoid the problem with your existing XCenter disappearing on install.

WarpIN and XWorkplace are Netlabs projects, released under the GNU General Public Licence. The source code is available on the Netlabs CVS server. See www.netlabs.org/nosa and the above address for details.

We have created four mailing lists at groups.yahoo.com:
    • warpin-user
    • warpin-dev
    • xworkplace-user
    • xworkplace-dev
for WarpIn and XWorkplace users and developers, respectively. HOWEVER, please note that Ulrich Moeller is currently not able to answer a hundred messages per day. If you want to report a bug, this is appreciated, but do not be disappointed if you do not get an answer. And please do not try either to mail him privately instead, that won't change things either.

Update: XWorkplace has been refreshed, the current version is 0.9.17

CW Multimedia Classes 0.2.0 (from Klaus Staedtler)
Chris Wohlgemuth has released the CW Multimedia classes 0.2.0. These classes are for extending the MM subsystem of OS/2. They integrate the MMIO procedures for MP3 and OGG files written by Russel O'Connor seamlessly into the WPS. A new media folder plays any audio class known to OS/2.
New:
  • Caching of information to speed up folder opening
The media folder is a new wPS-class which plays any audio class known to OS/2. Drop shadows in the folder to build a playlist and play it using the usual play controls. By using shadows you may move your MP3 files without breaking the playlist contents. Try this with your favorite audio player.
Features
  • Integrates into the WPS, full drag and drop
  • Plays any audio file class
  • New shadow class showing audio details in folder details view.
  • Playlists (the folder contents is the playlist)
  • Control playing using setup strings
  • Audio device sharing
