enigmail 0.95.5 for OS/2 available (from http://www.os2news.com)
From: Walter Meinl < wunoDESPAM@DESPAMlsvw.de >

Source: news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2

Sending the 0.95.4 versions to upstream created under certain conditions a garbled message (others on other OSes encountered this too). The enigmail maintainers were very busy to fix the bug. Particularly when you don't use a passphrase for encryption you should upgrad to enigmail 0.95.5. libC05 and libC063 Builds for OS/2 eCS are available on the
http://enigmail.mozdev.org homepage

ChangeLog: http://enigmail.mozdev.org/changelog.html#enig0.95.5

Have fun,

Walter

[Moderator note: From the Enigmail website:

'The latest version of Enigmail is 0.95.5, working with Thunderbird 2.0 and Seamonkey 1.1

Enigmail is an extension to the mail client of Mozilla Thunderbird and Mozilla Seamonkey which allows users to access the authentication and encryption features provided by GnuPG (see screenshots).
Enigmail is open source and dually-licensed under the GNU General Public License and the Mozilla Public License. You can download and install Enigmail from the Download page. See the Help page for post-installation instructions. ']

OS/2 World Poll: Do we need GPS/Mapping software for Warp/eCS? (from http://www.os2news.com)
From: Mark Dodel < feedbackDESPAM@DESPAMos2voice.org >

Someone is working on GPS mapping software and wants to know if there is an interest in it for eCS users. You need to register and/or login to vote:

'The app would be designed to work with (most) Garmin GPS units, though could be easily modified to work with others that support sending the appropriate data to the PC (location, routing info) - mapping data would be stored locally and easily updatable.'

GCC Build environment Updated (from http://www.os2news.com)
From: Paul Smedley < paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.id.au >

Hi All,

Just a quick announce that I uploaded an updated version of my GCC build environment to my site at http://os2ports.smedley.info a few days ago.

There are a bunch of new libraries since the January release, as well as an update to the latest libc (libc063).

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Paul.

Some information on IBM OS/2 Warp (PowerPC Edition) (from http://www.os2news.com)
From: Mark Dodel < feedbackDESPAM@DESPAMos2voice.org >

I'm trying to document information about the ill-fated IBM OS/2 Warp (PowerPC Edition) release. I have it installed on an IBM PC Power Series 830 machine and I plan to document the installation and general usage, in an upcoming article in VOICE (assuming of course there are any more issues.
Almost no one seems to have responded to Christian's plea for help in the last issue).

As part of that project I have scanned some of the material that came in the released package, including the CDs (Installation and Applications Sampler), the brief overview manual, the license and the package envelope itself. If anyone is interested in this bit of OS/2 history they can
download a zip archive at:
ftp://os2voice.org/OS2PPC/OS2PPCpackageScans.zip

In the same directory you can also find an IBM redbook on the OS/2 Power PC Edition:
ftp://os2voice.org/OS2PPC/sg244630OS2WarpPowerPCEditionAFirstLook.pdf
as well as the announcement letter from June 19, 1995
ftp://os2voice.org/os2ppc/OS2PPCAnnounce.html .
I tried making a PDF of this announcement letter which is only available as HTML from IBM's site, but OpenOffice 2.0.4 would not display the rightmost words and wouldn't wrap the lines. If anyone knows how to fix that or has a copy as a PDF I'd appreciate the help.

I'd very much like to thank Guy Sotomayor for donating a copy of IBM OS/2 Warp Connect (PowerPC Edition) and Hollis Blanchard for donating the IBM PC Power Series 830 system to the OS/2 Museum.

Mark

Sad news from Sundial (from http://www.os2news.com)
From: Cees van Veelen < ceesDESPAM@vanveelen.xs4all.nl >

As a customer of Sundial Systems and user of Junkspy I received the following sad news:

'On October 5th, Sundial Systems suddenly and unexpectedly lost its President and chief developer, Randell Flint. Randell was the heart and soul of Sundial, and we are mourning his untimely passing.'

This information is confirmed by the website of the company.
http://www.sundialsystems.com/

I think the OS/2 community lost a valuable member.

Greetings, Cees van Veelen.

[Moderator note; This is truly sad news. Besides being a developer of many great OS/2 applications, Randell was a long time supporter of many OS/2 organizations and was very supportive of VOICE and Warpstock. He will be greatly missed.]
