Contest: Write a driver for the Creative Labs Drx2 DVD Decoder Card (from Jason R Stefanovich)
I have begun a new contest at the MAMERun Homepage:
"Write a driver for the Creative Labs Drx2 DVD Decoder Card"
Many people have written to me asking about some way to support DVD movies under OS/2. I believe development of drivers for this card, and cards like it will enable OS/2 users to finally play DVD movies on their systems in a legal manner.

Development of Moneyplex for OS/2 continued (from Meinolf Sondermann)
Earlier this year the german company Matrica initiated a poll to determine the interest in an ongoing development of their homebanking Software "Moneyplex". There have been a lot of discussions about this subject in the german OS/2 community. Finally Matrica decided to continue the development based on the positive results of their poll.

Will the VisualAge C++ support be continued? (from Per Johansson)
This was posted today in ibm.software.vacpp.misc:
Today my IBM representative has informed me that the worldwide protests against the support stop for VACPP for Windows and OS/2 after Jan 31 2001 have made the resposible managers rethink that decision.
Support will now be continued for all platforms for [an as yet] undefined time. However that does not mean there will or will not be new releases for any platform, it just means they are finally thinking about it at the moment.

Sincerely
Peter Koch

StarOffice 5.2 back on OS/2 (from Webteam OS2.org)
May be you have read the rumor the last days on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) but the OS2.org Webteam waited until you can really work with it:
StarOffice 5.2 for Windows 32 runs with ODIN under OS/2! Also the OpenOffice (under GPL) works fine with it! You will have some problems with repaints and surely with other things but it is very fast! 3D-objects, StarOffice Basic macros, field-commands, presentations, formulas etc. are working very well! Thanks to the ODIN-project to give us StarOffice back on OS/2.

Sun's Forte - Update Center for OS/2 (from Gili)
In the past, using Forte's auto-update feature under OS/2 would fail (the patches would be downloaded but would never be applied). Now, you can make use of the autoupdate feature, but when Forte quits, runs the following command before restarting it. This will cause it to apply the downloaded patchs:
java -classpath lib\updater.jar -Dnetbeans.home=. -Xmx96m org.netbeans.updater.UpdaterFrame

Warpstock Europe 2000 Video (from Christoph Vogelbusch)
So three weeks after Warpstock Europe 2000 finally the video is assembled and encoded. I also added a summary and will start a threat at the forum of www.Warpstock.de to discuss about the video. I will collect the oppinions for future products and will be able to make changes to the video till the end of November 2000. I know the video is a little short and speedy (3 day summed up in 6 minutes of film), but I didn't want the video get to big, and don't want to let the quality be as bad as last year. The video is also reachable through OS2World.Com in RealPlayer- and MPEG-format.

Team OS/2 Hungary: Team CD 005 (from KOVACS Istvan)
Team OS/2 Hungary is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of its freeware/shareware collection, Team CD 005. The CD is published on a non-profit basis, and contains fixes, enhancements and new software published since the release of Team CD 003/004 (January 2000). The index files on the CD are Hungarian (but you can help in changing that, see below). Please contact me if you want to know more.
Call for volunteers:
If you wish to (or actually do) publish a similar CD, let's join forces! We collect most of the material from Hobbes, but also download just about everything we can. If you could help us writing index files in your language, please let me know so we can make the
CD international. We can have it stamped for really low costs (1-2 dollars if we make a thousand copies or so). The already published CD's are available online.

Information from Team OS/2 Russia (from TEAM OS/2 Russia)
Information from Team OS/2 Russia.
As you know, there are a lot of applications have been ported to OS/2 from unix. Most of them requires emxrt to operate. emxrt is a set of DLLs, which contains most used in unix functions compiled under OS/2 with gcc v2.8.
gcc 2.8 is a great C compiler, but there is also another C compiler, named pgcc. It is nothing but pentium-optimized version of gcc plus some advantages, because it based on more recent version of gcc (2.9.3)...
Due to this advantages we've switched our compilers to pgcc some time ago. For most users, who areusing our ports of different software originally developed for unix, it means that they required to find and to install some additional dlls.
Note, that TNEF application as well as PXTOOLS and may be some other applications already requires these DLLs.
So, if in the future you will try to run our ports and will get message like system cannot find gcc29166 (sys1804), you need to download and to install these additional DLLs.
Thank you for your attention.
Feel free to contact us by e-mail.
Don't forget to check our site at http://teamos2.ru/ oftenly for new OS/2 ports!

Digital Camera Image Transfer Utility for 20 US$ instead of 38 US$ (from Joerg Rustmeier)
Stephane Charette, author of DCITU, has answered to Joerg Rustmeier:
I like DCITU very much and I want to register the program, but the price of 39 US$ is very high, because of the weakness of the Euro. Actually I have to pay more than 90 (!) DM. Can you offer me a lower price?
The price of DCITU is 31US$, and then BMT Micro adds 7US$ for themselves. I used to have problems with people sending me cheques from Germany, because my Canadian bank was charging me 60$ (!!!) in "fees" to process a US cheque drawn on a German bank! That is why a few years ago I decided to go with BMT Micro to handle the sale of DCITU. If you can get a US or Canadian postal money order for 30US$, I will send you a registration # for DCITU. Remember to include your e-mail address with your order! However, due to past problems with some European banks, I cannot accept their cheques.
I'm a member of the OS/2 Team Trier in Germany and perhaps I could find more users who want to register.
That sounds great. I'll tell you what:
If you have 5 orders, what about we lower the price to 25US$? For 10 orders, can we agree on 20US$? That is almost half of the 38US$ price currently listed at BMT Micro. Hope to hear from you soon,
Stephane Charette
If you are intrested in buying a license can contact Joerg Rustmeier directly and if there are enough who are interested he will make a collective order.
DCITU is a 'Digital Camera Image Transfer Utility' and it's an OS/2-PM-applikation for reading via COM-port images from the following cameras: Kodak DC25, Kodak DC120, Kodak DC200, Kodak DC210, Kodak DC215, Kodak DC220, Kodak DC240, Kodak DC260, Kodak DC265, Kodak DC280, Agfa ePhoto, Epson PhotoPC, Minolta Dimage, Nikon Coolpik, Olympus, Sanyo VPC/DSC, Sierra SD640 and Toshiba PDR-2. DCITI is available in version 1.8i and you can use as Freeware with max. of 9.600 bps. For higher trasnfers (115.200 or 230.400 bps) you need a registration key.
