A Graham Utilities for OS/2 Update (from Chris Graham)
A Request for feedback from the author of The Graham Utilities for OS/2:

Anyone who is interested in a LARGE FILE enabled version of my utilities please contact me at:
chrisg@warpspeed.com.au
A large file enabled version of my utilities would enable those of you who have Warp Server for e-Business (WSeB) and are using the JFS file system (and obviously have large files) to work with large files. Large files are files >2.1Gb in size. OS/2's FAT, HPFS and HPFS386 (as well as NT's NTFS) can only handle files <=2.1Gb. As WSeB stands today, if you open a file that is >2.1Gb with a program that is not large file enabled, the result is a kernel trap (aka - black screen of death).
I would like to test interest for such a version of my utilities. If sufficient demand exists, then I would consider producing a new version of my utilities. If such a version should ever see the light of day, if would be a CD-ROM Only version, with the manual only
available in on-line format (as is presently available).

Pillarsoft Suite (from Wayne Swanson)
WarpStock isn't "just another show". It's more like summer camp where you come home all "fired up" and ready to change the world. I must admit I wasn't down in the dumps to start with but WarpStock still made a difference in my outlook. Since that time things may have seemed like they were slow from the outside looking in but we have been busy... pouring over programs and code trying to tie the knot on a big bag of goodies.

At WarpStock we sold a suite of programs ostensibly called the "PillarSoft Suite" for $100. Since then, we have added to the lineup, built a new installer and dropped the price by a whole buck! Well... the introductory special is a buck cheaper anyways. :-)

PILLARSOFT SUITE OVERVIEW
The PillarSoft Suite is a great collection of software and utilities specifically for the OS/2 family of operating systems. The suite will make you more productive immediately with a great archiver, two editors, a secure deletion program, paint program, an easy to use desktop backup program and much more.

There are 12 products available as part of the PillarSoft Suite:
  • Data Shield - Secure data deletion
  • DeskTop Backup - Point and click DeskTop Backups
  • Enhanced E Editors - A pair of productivity editors
  • Huey - Color selection utility
  • Killer - "Mini" process killer
  • PCT - Code Template Tool (extensible)
  • PSC - Status Center (a plethora of information)
  • SFX Installer - Build custom installations
  • ShowTime/2 - Background changer and slideshow viewer
  • VP - Small but cute Video Player
  • WarPaint - A "pixel paint" program for OS/2
  • WarpZip - Great archiving tool for OS/2

Some of these applications were not originally part of the suite and are not available separately. They have been bundled to bring added value to the Suite and are available to the previous purchasers of the suite at no additional cost. (A fitting "thank you" to previous purchasers?)

Realizing that not everyone will want or need every application in the suite, it is priced it in such a way that if even half of the programs are desirable, the suite should be worth it's price. Separately the programs would weigh in at approximately $248. We hope you will give it a try and decide if the programs fit your needs.

Note: Data Shield is not shareware and is only available with the registered version of the PillarSoft Suite. It is the only program in the package that will not work as a demo. It is included in the archive so it will be available immediately to newly registered users. The remainder of the applications may be tested and used in the same way any shareware application is used.

WarpNote 1.9 (from Uwe Schlenther)
Tired of those yellow sticky notes that won't stick on your monitor? Here come the sticky notes that remain where you put them: On your OS/2 desktop. WarpNote gives you easy access to little yellow windows where you can note down everything you want. The program is simple and easy to use and consumes as little memory as possible. Each and any feature can be configured and adjusted to the user's needs. Extensive scripting capabilities give you unlimited possibilities (a birthday-reminder is included as an example script). A Blowfish encryption interface ensures that private data is stored in a secure way.
WarpNote is an ideal desktop companion, a fire-and-forget solution to keep all sorts of information - e.g. your shopping list or even confidential information like banking data, passwords or PIN numbers.
This is a kind of christmas edition of WarpNote. I'd like to thank all WarpNote users for their support and the plenty of suggestions I have received, and I wish you all a merry christmas and all the best for the new year.
New in this Release:

  • Introduced popup menu entry that holds the most recent created notes.

  • Introduced startup delay. This hopefully fixes problems on machines with heavy load during startup folder processing.

  • Added a missing menu item in the German language module.

  • Fixed improper behavior of LOAD command in WNCOMM.EXE.

  • Fixed a couple of wrong result codes in WNCOMM-Commands.

  • Implemented proper handling of CR-LF pairs at the end of buffer boundaries.

  • Added hotkey handling.

  • Simplified Control Center code.

Styler/2 version 1.1.0 (from Alessandro Cantatore)
Styler/2 version 1.1.0 is available for download
This version (1.1.0) corrects the following problems and add the following new features:

  • Marking and copying text by the mouse in VIO windows now works correctly even if only mouse button 1 is selected without causing any conflict with those programs which detect and use mouse button 1 click events.

  • In some circumstances, with the Automatic focus feature enabled, windows were receiving undue get-focus messages even if they already had the focus. This bug has been fixed now.

  • The code for painting the shades used as titlebar background has been completely re-written. Now shades are painted much more faster and a partial dithering is used for improving the look of horizontal shades. Besides that, new shades syles have been added to the ordinary horizontal and vertical shades styles.

  • Now the bitmaps used as titlebar background may be optionally stretched to fit the titlebar size.

  • Some new sets of bitmaps for the titlebar buttons have been added. These include:
    • an almost complete set of bitmaps by Don K. Eitner,

    • roll and unroll bitmaps by Ulrich Moller,

    • some x-windows bitmaps suggested by a member of Team OS/2 Italy (sorry I do not remember who actually sent me the original images),

    • some spherical bitmaps elaborated from a sketch by Teo Pace.

  • The installation/uninstallation program has been completely rewritten.

  • The installer checks for the MPTS.EXE program and adds it to the exceptions if not yet present there.

  • The registration program and the preferences program have been reviewed in order to make use of only one dll for the common code and another dll for the language related resources. This will make it easier to translate the program to other languages than English in future.

  • The help buttons now opens the proper page of the program documentation.

PSION and OS/2 (from Gerhard Arnecke)
Andrey Porodko has ported a Psion software (from Linux?): (Additional informations from F. Lorenz) With the program you can connect to a Psion like the Psi-OS/2-tool from Eric Huelsmann. After starting the program you will get a commando-shell on drive "C:" on the (connected) Psion and you can use the following commands:

  • pwd

  • ren (oldname) (newname)

  • touch (psionfile)

  • gtime (psionfile)

  • test (psionfile)

  • gattr (psionfile)

  • devs

  • dir|ls

  • dircnt

  • cd (dir)

  • lcd (dir)

  • get (psionfile)

  • put (pcfile)

  • mget (shellpattern)

  • mput (shellpattern)

  • del|rm (psionfile)

  • mkdir (psiondir)

  • rmdir (psiondir)

  • prompt

  • bye

The command get will copy a program from PSION to the PC:
PSION::C:\\> get 1.mbm
Copying C:\\1.mbm -> E:\\PSIos2\\PSIFTP\\1.mbm
You won´t need any additional software on the PSION to use that program (as Psi-OS/2), but it is not stable and if it hangs you have not any chance to kill it EFCOMM or killpid! After a reboot it will start again and crash. :-( But you can kill it this way:
Enter in the contextmenu/properties/program in the parameterfield a "?" (normaly it is to start a commandshell). Next time after reboot the program will report an error and you can close it. The second program is to use directly a printer:
PsiPrn Set up on your Psion appropriate printer, select printer connected via serial line, then select speed, handshake (I recommend 115200 for Series 5, or 19200 for other, handshake RTS/CTS, DSR/DTR). If you have got Psion with language differ from English, Psion must have right printer drivers with your language support.

SecureDesktop (from Juergen Dankoweit)
In about two weeks a new version of SecureDesktop will be delivered. I had great problems with the WPS which was the reason for long pause from my side.
The new version will include single-sign-on feature for Warp-Networks (Peer to Peer, WarpServer). The whole package can be downloaded from my home page.
SecureDesktop is a security system for OS/2 computers with Warp4 or Warp3 installed. The current version allows serial multiuser Desktops on one machine. Each Desktop is protected by UserID and password. Each user has also his own home-directory.
The future plans are:

  • file-access-controls (under development)

  • distributed WPS (the last tests are running)

  • trusted applications (under development)

  • several modules for administrating database (msql), StarOffice, Communicator 4.61, NS 2.02, etc. from SecureDesktop (under development)

  • full WPS integration (under development)

MAME for OS/2 version .36 beta 11 is available (from Marty)

If you are upgrading from beta 6 or higher, it will automatically update your Quick List and scan for newly supported games the first time you start it up so you don't have to manually rescan everything from scratch and erase your Favorites
list.
The following items have changed since version .36 beta 10:

Another suggestion was made to run LxLite on the executables, which I have done. The executables shrank from 10MB to 4MB, although the ZIP file is about the same size to download.

ObjectDesktop 2.0 Fixkit #2 (from Joerg Sievers)
Brad Wardell has posted the binary of fixkit #2 for ObjectDesktop 2.0 to the newsgroup of the StarDock-server. On the webpage the file is not available at the moment.(430kB)
README:
12/1/99
Unlike previous fixkits, this fixkit is really a 'hot fix' type fix. We did not create the binary patches, and have only included changed DLLs. To install, simply boot to a command prompt, save the previous DLLs to a save directory (FixKit20.2), and copy the contents of this zipfile to the Object Desktop 2.0 installation directory.
Changed files:

  • OBJDCOMN.DLL

  • OBJDCCEN.DLL

  • OBJDEFLD.DLL

Fix List:
Enhanced Folder
  • Create "New" instances feature does not work on a browsed folder. New objects are created in original parent folder.

  • New instances not getting proper size on initial open due to toolbar.

  • Details view not completely working on toolbar at times.

  • When in browse mode and browsed into sub folder, some folder menus not working properly: (create another, delete, etc.) when invoked from the folder's menu (contained objects worked OK).

Control Center
  • Fixed occassional SYS3178 errors in Object Netscan.

TODO:
  • FLDR: Icons of browse (eg. use open of folder) folder disappearing

  • FLDR: track menu changed for details switch, etc.

  • FLDR: fix object rexx

MAME for OS/2 version .36 beta 10 (from Marty)
The OS/2 version has been updated to the latest version of the MAME core (.36 beta 10). If you are upgrading from beta 6 or higher, it will automatically update your Quick List and scan for newly supported games the first time you start it up so you don't have to manually rescan everything from scratch and erase your Favorites
list. I took some time to fix several bugs and annoyances this release. The following items have changed since version .36 beta 9.1:

  • Updated to MAME core version .36 beta 10

  • PONG is available to everybody!!!!! ** NOTE: You must disable the joystick to use this game. There is a bug in the MAME core causing the joystick to block out keyboard input and not function properly.

  • Fixed a stupid, STUPID, bug causing a crash when the ROM search path is changed.

  • Changed the DIVE initialization code slightly to (hopefully) work better with some ThinkPads and other hardware with flakey DIVE support.

  • Fixed a bug that caused changes in the joystick settings to not immediately take effect in the middle of a game.

  • Fixed a bug causing games with looped samples (like Galaxian) to stop playing the samples when the game is unpaused.

  • Got rid of a few ugly error messages in the Debug.Log when the game is paused and sound is enabled.

  • Tweaked the Quick List dialog screen to give the window focus to the Favorites list by default.

  • Fixed the startup sequence when using a game name as a command line parameter so that the loading status screen gets the window focus while it is loading.
