DreckBak OS/2 Disk Backup Utility (from Murray Weismer)
Version 3.c of DreckBak, the least expensive OS/2 disk backup solution has been uploaded to both Hobbes and the support site.

Dreckbak is usable by every OS/2 user with no special hardware needed. Ideally suited to removable media, the program works well with a reasonably large Hard drive, as well. Double integrity checking and full logging. Supports file and directory exclusions. Restore utility that will work from floppies, if needed. Full install utility to create all directories and build program objects. Complete docs in text and htm format, as well as great Web based support. See why Warp City calls this "a keeper".

Squid 2.2 (from Platon Fomichev)
Squid offers high performance proxy caching for Web clients, It supports FTP, Gopher, and HTTP requests. The cache software, available only in source, is more than an order of magnitude faster than the CERN httpd and other popular Internet caches, because it never needs to fork (except for FTP), is implemented with non-blocking I/O, keeps meta data and hot objects in VM, caches DNS lookups. Squid caches can be arranged hierarchically for an improvement in response times and a reduction in bandwith usage. Squid runs on all popular Unix platforms.
I"m glad to present you new version of Squid - 2.2
STABLE 2 it is Beta 1, but I consider it to be more stable than any others. New Squid features many core bug-corrections and also has improved speed. Beta 1 has all OS/2 features and bug corrections and support all Squid 2.1 external modules like authenticator or Redirector. After little testing I will also release version with DELAY_POOLS and SNMP. Currenly Squid has HTTP_VIOLATIONS, HTCP, CACHE_DIGEST and others.

REXX-API for Notes 4.x and REXX-Server (from Juergen Sterlike)
Access to Notes with REXX is NOW possible !

The API "RxNotes" has been introduced first at the IBM Symposium "PC NeTworking SolutiOnS/2" 21.-23.4. in Garmisch by the author Peter Leugner (Fa. AS-Computer) and Jürgen Sterlike (TrainerTeam).

You can download a DEMO-API and documentation at http://www.trainerteam.de/nrexx/download.html.

The REXX-Server is a multithreadet Named Pipe System under REXX, that can run scripts on other PC"s and send back the results. In combination with the Notes-API (RxNotes) all Notes accesses are possible without using notes.

All functions are implemented.
Restrictions of the demo: Working only possible with databeses, that have the title AS RXNOTES DEMO. More restrictions are not implemented.

There is also an overview as Freelance.prz.

Rover Pack for OS/2 (from Andreas Linde)
Announcement from Sundial:
Rover Pack(tm) Joins the Sundial Systems Family.
It"s time to a add a canine companion to your OS/2 desktop

April 23, 1999, Seal Beach, CA - Sundial Systems Corporation and Orange Hill Software today announced that Sundial Systems has begun shipping the Rover Pack for OS/2.

The Rover Pack is a collection of tools for navigating and managing an OS/2 Workplace Shell desktop in a useful and even fun way. Rover, the desktop retriever, is the star of the show. Rover tries to stay close at hand and ready to open the desktop objects (programs, folders, etc.) that you use. He takes the form of a little window that "roves" around your desktop trying to stay in "empty space" -- available, yet out of your way. And like a good companion, he keeps track of the objects he fetches for you... ready to open them again if the need should arise.

The Rover Pack is based on a unique set of technologies, pioneered by Orange Hill, to provide this type of Workplace Shell enhancement in a way that is highly unlikely to conflict with other desktop enhancement products or Workplace Shell extensions.

For further information on the Rover Pack and Sundial Systems, visit the Sundial Systems web site at http://www.sundialsystems.com or contact Carla
Hanzlik, Vice President of Sundial Systems, at (562)
596-5121 or (562) 596-5366.

Hexen/2 updated (from Jostein Ullestad)
Better SFX support, the sfx volum setting now works.
Loading during game start up is done in a seperate thread.
Credits is given in the "About" window.
Setting window is provided for the OS/2 command line parameters. This means that you are able to change the OS/2 releated settings during game play, you do not have to re-start the game. Settings are saved in the hexos2.ini file where hexos2.exe resides. Note that the command line parameters overide the ini file settings.
Better mouse grabbing, if you have turned on mouse grabbing you will not be able to access the menu unless you have paused the game, either by pressing [Num Lock] or [Esc] key.

new Swift (from Andreas Linde)
The version 0.6.3 of the Swift-Generator is now available.
Swift-Generator is a very simple replacement for Macromedia Generator. It aims at dynamically replacing texts, fonts and sounds in either a Generator Template file or a standard Flash file. It can also dynamically change action parameters in either frames or buttons.
This allows Webmasters to create dynamic content such as stock-exchangevalues, weather values and the like. Swift-Generator only requires an authoring tool like Macromedia Flash 3. Once a Flash file is created, Swift-Generator is able to handle it.
A Flash Player port for OS/2 is in work !! So this tool is only interesting for webservers running OS/2 right now.
