OS2.org is back (from Andreas Linde)
OS2.org WebTeam is proud to announce that our server is back on the net. We hope and think that we can now offer a more reliable service with the changes we made during the last week. But this is only a first step on the road, more things will come.
First of all we like to explain some of the problems we had with our server in the past. The biggest problem was the apache webserver, which has some memory problems in high traffic environments (only the OS/2 port of it !). As a solution for that we are now using the IBM version of Apache for OS/2, which is not using the emx library and works multithreaded. But we needed also a PHP 4.1 version that can be used with the IBM Apache, which was not available so far. But yesterday night we finally got a port which works great so far. A big thank you goes to Yuri Dario and Knut St. Osmundsen for their excellent work ! (A general version of that port with more modules will be available in the near future)

The second problem was and is MySQL. We use the latest version, which is created with the IBM VAC Compiler. Because of unknown reasons it corrupts the table indexes once in a while, so we had the shutdown the database and reindex the tables some times each day. Now we installed the latest update to MySQL and hope these problems will be gone now. The second step on the OS2.org enhancements will be the use of the IBM DB2 database. This for OS2.org will be relaunched in some weeks. Right now we are recoding the pages and layout from scratch and hope to finish it very soon. MySQL will then be used only for some parts of the page, the main work will be done by IBM DB2.

The OS2.org WebTeam now wishes all of you lots of fun with OS2.org again

Hello everybody,
again we had some problems with our server this week, so the OS2.org services were not available twice. We decided to reinstall the server from scratch from wednesday until friday (23th until 25th). During this time our services will not be available!
We hope that we can solve the problems we had and give all of us a more reliable OS2.org server.

Talented OS/2 people wanted (from Tom Rowe)
Greetings everyone. The Fortune 100 company I work for, with offices here
in Atlanta, GA, is looking for a number of talented OS/2 people for full
time permanent positions. Some of the skills needed are REXX, C++, Java,
Warp Server, hardware, IBM ComServer, WorkSpace on Demand. Not all the
people need have all the above skills. Also needed is *excellent*
attention to detail.
You would be part of a small (relatively) team supporting/developing for
approximately 5,000 WarpServer for eBusiness severs, with about 40,000
clients. This is a *highly* standardized environment.
If you think you are interested, or know someone who is, forward me (Tom
Rowe ) a resume and I'll pass it on to the right
person

Tom Rowe
Atlanta, GA
