VICE/2: Request for development help (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Christian Hennecke < christian.henneckeDESPAM@DESPAMos2voice.org >

The latest versions of VICE/2, the OS/2 port of the Versatile Commodore
Emulator, do not run at resolutions with 16 million colors. The bug has
been reported to the VICE development team. They have acknowledged the
problem but nobody feels that he has enough knowledge of the OS/2 GPI to
fix it.

If anybody can help, please send a message to the VICE development mailing
list at:

GSview 4.9 (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Tom Steen < tomDESPAM@DESPAMsteensoft.com >

I just noticed that GSView2 has been updated to version 4.9.
Works ok with my just installed Ghostscript to v8.63.

Download from http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/get49.htm

GSview is a graphical interface for Ghostscript under MS-Windows or OS/2.
Ghostscript is an interpreter for the PostScript page description language
used by laser printers. For documents following the Adobe PostScript
Document Structuring Conventions, GSview allows selected pages to be viewed
or printed. GSview requires Ghostscript 7.04-9.19.

Features include:

* Display and print PostScript and PDF files.
* View pages in arbitrary order (Next, Previous, Goto).
* Page size and Orientation are automatically selected from DSC
comments or can be selected using the menu.
* Print selected pages using Ghostscript.
* Convert pages to bitmap, PDF or PostScript.
* Selectable display resolution, depth, alpha.
* Single button zoom.
* Extract selected pages to another file.
* Copy display bitmap to clipboard.
* Save clipboard bitmap as BMP file.
* Add bitmap or user preview to EPS file (Interchange, TIFF or Windows
Metafile)
* Graphically select and show bounding box for EPS file.
* Extract bitmap preview or PostScript from DOS EPS file.
* Extract text or search for text.
* Can read gzip and bzip2 compressed PostScript and PDF files.
* On-line help.
* Win32, OS/2 and Linux/X11 executables. Older versions support Win16.
* Can be run directly off a CD-ROM or USB memory stick (Portable
Application).
* English, Catalan, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Russian,
Slovak, Spanish and Swedish languages.
* Per user initialisation files for Windows.
* Includes setup program.
* Free (Aladdin Free Public Licence).
* Works with Ghostscript 7.04 - 9.99 (GSview checks the Ghostscript
version number). There are older versions of GSview that will work with
Ghostscript 4.03 - 7.00.

Changes in version 4.9:

* Minor bug fixes.
* Use latest version of zlib and bzip2 libraries.
* Can be run as a portable application from USB flash memory.

GSview was written by Russell Lang at Ghostgum Software Pty Ltd.
GSview 4.9 should be used with Ghostscript 8.63 or later. See the 8.63
release announcement

Ghostscript updated to v8.63 (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel < feedbackDESPAM@DESPAMos2voice.org >

Paul Smedley has updated Ghostscript to v8.63.

http://www.smedley.info/os2ports/index.php?page=ghostscript

'Ghostscript for OS/2 & eCS

Ghostscript is an interpreter for the PostScript (TM) language. A
PostScript interpreter usually takes as input a set of graphics commands.
The output is usually a page bitmap which is then sent to an output device
such as a printer or display. PostScript is embedded in many printers.

Ghostscript has several main uses:

1. Display a PostScript file (avoid killing trees).
2. Display a PostScript file to decide if you really need to print it
(reduce the number of trees killed).
3. Print a PostScript file to a non-PostScript printer (kill more trees).

History:

- Necessary device support for CUPS is included - be sure to modify path
entry in /cups/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster if upgrading CUPS

Please let Paul know if you find this software useful. He needs user
feedback to continue work on these projects. He maintains a bug tracker
for many projects at http://mantis.smedley.info It just requires a simple
registration.

If you'd like to help support continued development of this project (and
many others) for OS/2 & eComStation, please consider making a donation
either via Paypal using the link on Paul's website, or using the Mensys
Online Store http://www.mensys.net/os2ports/
