WarpOverlay! 1.05 (from Timo Maier)
  • TNT must work fine now
  • GeForce - attributes bug fixed. May cause blinking when adjusting parameters.
  • Fixed black polygon on Radeon8500.
  • New DeviceID`s added for Rage128.
  • NeoMagic support added.
  • Uninstall option added.

About the WarpOverlay! Project
In a few words, the WarpOverlay! Project is the development project for the replacement of HW EnDIVE. The name WarpOverlay! is the new name for formerly closed project in-testing, called HWVIDEO. Ok, maybe that was more than just a few words. And now, in the name of enlightenment and prosperity, here are a few more. This project is easily distinguished from the HW EnDIVE project in the way that it doesn't utilize any part of OS/2's DIVE (and therefore also EnDIVE) subsystems, whatsoever. Regardless, it provides all the functionality HW EnDIVE provided, as well as hardware-based overlay support. It does this all through it's own, independant API. The result of course, is a 2D acceleration solution for OS/2 application development.

The version 1.0 of the Mastermind game WWMastermind 2D has been published. The program is freeware.

Changes in the final version 1.0 since the beta version from July 2002:
- online help implemented,
- "nicer" user interface incl. info screen,
- set a maximum time for finding the color combination (optional),
- small bugfixes.

bootAble 2.7 (from Klaus Staedtler)
Hajo Baan uploaded version 2.7 of the script to create a bootable CD or maintenance partition. New in version 2.7 is basic TCP/IP support.
A few highlights of the script:
  • Can be used to create bootable CD's and maintenance partitions (and thus can be seen as a replacement of bootOS2)
  • Easy configuration via configuration files (almost everything is configurable)
  • WPS (VGA and gengradd) or command-line boot
  • Support for FAT, FAT32, HPFS, JFS, CDFS, UDF, and LVM
  • Support for IDE, SCSI, USB, Mouse, Serial port, and Parallel port
  • Support for Unicode
  • Support for REXX
  • Support for basic TCP/IP networking
  • Use of DANI or default drivers
  • Use of JJSCDROM or default drivers
  • Support for RSJ or cdrecord/mkisofs
  • Small disk footprint; less than 5MB for the command-line version.
The default settings assume an IDE only setup, instuctions for adding SCSI support are included in the defaults configuration file. If you need extra space on the boot image (for instance if you added SCSI support), instructions for making more room to the CD are included as well. Full USB support is also enabled by default and defaults to one UHCI adapter. Of course this can be fully configured. By default the script uses the DANI drivers for accessing IDE and ATAPI devices as these are the
most stable. Again this can be configured.
When creating a bootable CD, the script assumes you use RSJ for burning CDs and that you have already attached the CD-R(W). A
virtual 2.88MB floppy should also be available. Instructions for using this script with cdrecord and mkisosofs are included.

Web family tree v0.41 (from Peter Moylan)
Web Family Tree (WFT) version 0.41 is now available. WFT is a freeware CGI application for displaying your family tree on the web. To use it you must also have a web server installed, but there are plenty of web servers available for OS/2. (Even if this is for your own private use, with no public access desired, you can set up any web server to run on the loopback interface.)

At the first of the download locations listed above, you can see a demonstration of what the results look like, and you can also, if you wish, download the source code.

StarLogo 2.0 (from Isaac Leung)
StarLogo is a new version of Logo. Some of you may remember Logo as a computer language for learning. However, StarLogo 2.0 now includes simple paint functions (e.g. like Windows Paint), and graphing capability (histograms, barcharts, line, scatter charts, etc.)
StarLogo is free and runs with Java 1.1 or higher. The included .BAT file will work just fine on OS/2. I have modified it only very slightly to use Java 1.3.1 on OS/2, so I can verify it works.

CommuniGate Pro Mail Server (from Ali Liptrot)
MILL VALLEY, CA - September 19, 2002 - Stalker Software, Inc., the technology leader in messaging solutions, today announced the release of the CommuniGate Pro Mail Server for the IBM OS/2 platform. The OS/2 community can now benefit from CommuniGate Pro's unparalleled reliability, ease of maintenance, tight security, and proven scalability.
The OS/2 is now the 30th platform supported by CommuniGate Pro. Others include Solaris, Linux, FreeBSD, Windows, BSDi, HP/UX, Tru64, AIX, IRIX, MacOS X, UnixWare, BeOS, QNX running on Intel, PowerPC, Alpha, Sparc, HPPA, Power4, Motorola 68K, Itanium, MIPS, StrongARM and Z/390 mainframe systems. On all platforms, CommuniGate Pro presents the same interface and uses the same file formats, allowing any organization to switch server platforms in less than an hour.
CommuniGate Pro is designed for an entire range of systems - from 50 corporate users to 50 million wireless devices. The highly scalable messaging platform can easily support 250,000+ accounts with an average ISP-type load on a single server, and the CommuniGate Pro unique clustering mechanisms allow it to support up to 5,000,000 accounts in the Dynamic Cluster configuration, and a virtually unlimited number of accounts in the Super-Cluster configuration.
"We are excited to add OS/2 version to our portfolio", says Vladimir Butenko, president of Stalker Software, "Stability and reliability of the IBM OS/2 operation system earned it a very loyal worldwide user base. Now, with the OS/2 release of CommuniGate Pro those users will be able to deploy the best available Internet messaging system on the OS that powered most BBS sites in the pre-Internet era".
Components and Features
CommuniGate Pro communication and access modules provide all the types of messaging services required for today's applications. The SMTP module sends and receives messages via the Internet using the ESMTP protocol with DSN and all other modern extensions, and employs sophisticated high-performance multichannel queuing techniques. The POP and IMAP modules implement the standard POP3 and IMAP4rev1 protocols as well as the most widely known and implemented extensions to these protocols which provide unmatched compatibility with all standards-based mail client applications.
The HTTP module supplements these modules with Web Access to user E-mail, eliminating a need for mailer applications on client computers. A fully customizable Web Mail Interface can be easily adopted to the look and feel of the customer Web site, and it can be integrated with the existing Web-based applications.
The RPOP module can be used to retrieve mail from remote hosts via the POP3 protocol. The LDAP and ACAP module provide access to various user-, domain-, and server-level databases and data sets, including the automatically maintained Central Directory.
CommuniGate Pro includes a full-featured Meta-Directory Server integrating an arbitrary set of local Directory Units and remote LDAP servers to present a single, unified 'Directory tree' to all client applications.
True Clustering
CommuniGate Pro clustering can be used to build frontend/backend multi-server configurations, as well as symmetric cluster sites. Based on inter-server synchronization techniques, the CommuniGate Pro Cluster can employ shared file systems (such as NFS servers and Cluster File Systems) using the Cluster versions of the CommuniGate Pro software. The Single System Image feature of the CommuniGate Pro Dynamic Cluster makes Cluster administration as easy as
single-server administration.
Web-Based Interface
Installing and configuring CommuniGate Pro for small and midsize sites usually takes less than 20 minutes. The built-in Migration features simplify migration from the previous generation Mail servers, including Netscape/Sun/iPlanet servers, Software.com products, as well as from freeware systems based on sendmail, qmail, and other MTAs.
The Command Line Interface is provided, too, making it easy to control the Server using external applications and scripts. Bundled Perl and Java "wrappers" streamline integration of the CommuniGate Pro server/cluster with existing provisioning, billing, and accounting systems.
With 15-30 features added in every monthly upgrade (which is free), CommuniGate Pro continues to keep the lead not only as the most scalable and reliable mail system on the market, but as the most feature-rich and comprehensive system that easily adopts to ever-changing needs of modern corporations and ISPs.
Try Before You Buy
CommuniGate Pro is distributed as "keyware". The fully functional software with no time or scale limits can be downloaded. Until a set of license keys is purchased and entered into the product, each transferred message gets a one-line banner.

StarOffice 6.0 / ODIN (from Joerg Skottke)
With the latest weekly build it is - once again - possible to run StarOffice 6.0 and OpenOffice.org 1.01. StarOffice requires Freetype, OOo does not. Printing does not work - even touching the dialogs crashes the office. Saving in native .SX-format might fail. Use the 5.x format then.

WarpZip has been updated (from Wayne Swanson)
The new version 3.7 addresses download queues and how they are handled. Previously, you could download files from the internet without having to "save as" to your download directory but after WarpZip loaded the file listing, it would let you close the program without saving a list of any "unviewed" archives.

As of v3.7, any "unviewed" archives are saved for the next running of
WarpZip. For example: If you have downloaded and virus scanned 10 archives via the WarpZip Download Preprocessor but only had time to view 5 of the archives... WarpZip will now save the last 5 for viewing during your next session.

There is no charge for this update for registered users. There is also a evaluation version available.

VDMA v0.9b beta (from Martin Kiewitz)
The original VDMA driver done by I.B.M. was fixed, patched and extended for about 10 years. Still the DMA port emulation is not quite complete or accurate and some things weren't done in a really efficient manner. DMA in VDMs is mostly used for sound output of games and due to limits of the original driver, games like Prince of Persia 2, Goblins 3 and Sam'n Max didn't work at all or not right.
My replacement driver is 100% new. It contains a completely new logic for emulating DMA transfers. It's half the size of the original driver, definitely more accurate and is coded using about 80% assembly and 20% Watcom C code.

Please remember this is beta code and should not be uploaded to Hobbes or other public servers

ImageJ 1.28 (from Klaus Staedtler)
ImageJ is a public domain Java image processing program inspired by NIH Image for the Macintosh. It runs, either as an online applet or as a downloadable application, on any computer with a Java 1.1 or later virtual machine.
It can display, edit, analyze, process, save and print 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit images. It can read many image formats including TIFF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, DICOM, FITS and "raw". It supports "stacks", a series of images that share a single window. It is multithreaded, so time-consuming operations such as image file reading can be performed in parallel with other operations.
It can calculate area and pixel value statistics of user-defined selections. It can measure distances and angles. It can create density histograms and line profile plots. It supports standard image processing functions such as contrast manipulation, sharpening, smoothing, edge detection and median filtering.
It does geometric transformations such as scaling, rotation and flips. Image can be zoomed up to 32:1 and down to 1:32. All analysis and processing functions are available at any magnification factor. The program supports any number of windows (images) simultaneously, limited only by available memory.
Spatial calibration is available to provide real world dimensional measurements in units such as millimeters. Density or gray scale calibration is also available.
ImageJ was designed with an open architecture that provides extensibility via Java plugins. Custom acquisition, analysis and processing plugins can be developed using ImageJ's built in editor and Java compiler. User-written plugins make it possible to solve almost any image processing or analysis problem.
ImageJ is being developed on Mac OS X using its built in editor and Java compiler, plus the BBEdit editor and the Ant build tool. The source code is freely available. The author, Wayne Rasband (wayne@codon.nih.gov), is at the Research Services Branch, National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
