WarpIN and XWorkplace 0.9.14. (from Ulrich Moeller)
WarpIN and XWorkplace have both been updated to V0.9.14.
  1. WarpIN V0.9.14 has been released.
WarpIN is intended to become the new universal OS/2 installer. It is becoming more and more popular among OS/2 developers because of its flexibility and ease of use. It has full system configuration (CONFIG.SYS, WPS classes, WPS objects) and can fully undo all the changes to your system again. V0.9.14 has more fixes and introduces self-installing executables support to finally solve the download problems many people have been having.
  2. XWorkplace V0.9.14 is out also.
XWorkplace is the most feature-rich freeware Workplace Shell enhancer on the planet, and even better, it is OpenSource. XWorkplace is the successor to my popular XFolder utility and has become a Netlabs project. For details, please refer to the download address below. V0.9.14 again fixes quite a number of bugs. In addition, some new features were added. Note: To install XWorkplace V0.9.14, you also need WarpIN V0.9.14 or higher, since XWorkplace now comes as a self-installing executable.
WarpIN and XWorkplace are Netlabs projects, released under
the GNU General Public Licence. The source code is available on the Netlabs CVS server. See http://www.netlabs.org/nosa and the address above for details. We have created four mailing lists at groups.yahoo.com:
  • warpin-user
  • warpin-dev
  • xworkplace-user
  • xworkplace-dev
for WarpIn and XWorkplace users and developers,
respectively. We are grateful for feedback on these mailing lists. Have fun!

OS/2 Game 'The Very Interesting Vision Beta 1' Beta 1 (from MarioS)
Mario Schunda has made Beta 1 of the game VIVISIO (The Very Interesting Vision) public on his homepage. The game is only availale in GERMAN language at the moment!

VCDTools 0.4 (from Klaus Staedtler)
Chris Wohlgemuth has ported the VCDTools to OS/2. Video CDs are ordinary CDROMs in a special format which contain MPEG-1 encoded video. For long times this type of CD was mostly known in Asia whereas Video CDs and the according players were mostly unknown in the USA and Europe. Since almost every DVD player can also play VCDs (and since the recordable Video DVD for a reasonable price seems still far away) VCDs are getting more popular everywhere. VCDs use a special type of CD sectors (mode 2 form 2) and have a special form of the filesystem. If you want to know more about VCDs, visit the
VCD FAQ or do a search in the web.

emx Warpzilla and XWarpzilla 0.9.3 at Hobbes (from Henry Sobotka)
Four new versions of Mozilla 0.9.3 are now uploading slowly (56K) to Hobbes:Each is slightly under 13MB. Of the two maiden releases (QT and Xlib), the QT is flakier, and both require more patience than the GTK+. The Xlib has the advantage of requiring no extra GUI toolkit. All three XF/2 versions include MathML and SVG support All four builds have security, but (alas) no Java. One of the first things you should do after installation is open Preferences->Advanced and deselect Java (on by default) to prevent problems arising from mozilla looking for something that isn't there. The PM is impressively stable and, for the first time ever here, sailed through all 100 of the random browserbuster sites. Its most blatant bug (which, duh, I forgot to mention in the ReadMe) is displaying images upsidedown when an img tag specifies width and/or height.
Launch speed has also improved substantially and here is at long last down to a tolerable 17 secs or so for all versions. Hint: if you're running Mozilla with a big flock of *.xpt files in bin/components, feed them to bin/xpt_link.exe; here this shaves a solid five seconds off launches. The version in these zips supports wildcards, so you can go:
cd bin
xpt_link any_name_you_want.xpt components/*.xpt
del components/*.xpt
move *.xpt components

Then delete component.reg and the two *.dat files in components before relaunching. You'll only notice the improvement with the second launch, however, because of component reregistration, Without wildcard support, you have to feed xpt_link a file listing the *.xpt files in bin/components.
