Graham Utilities for OS/2 V2.10.6 (from Chris Graham)
22/08/00 (GUxx0234.CSD - CSD 16 - V2.10.6)
The sixteenth CSD for The Graham Utilities for OS/2, V2 has been made available. These CSD's are cumulative, ie you only need to download and keep the last one. The sixteenth CSD takes The Graham Utilities for OS/2, V2.00 to V2.10.6. NOTE: The application of this CSD requires a new/updated CSDINST.EXE. This new CSD program (NewCSD16.Zip, NewCSD32.Zip and NewCSDPP.Zip) can be found at: http://www.warpspeed.com.au/u-warp.htm. To retrieve and install this CSD you have a number of options at your
disposal. There are three methods of installation: RSU, Manual and Automatic. RSU is the preferred method, as it is all on autopilot.
  • RSU
RSU (or Remote Software Updates) is the newest method that IBM is using to distribute fixpacks. Using this method, you open a web page and select a RSU file by clicking on it. This downloads a small .RSU file to your browser, and if your web browser is correctly configured to recognise the MIME type "application/rsu", passes it onto RSUInst.Exe which then logs via FTP onto a specified server, downloads the file(s) and then runs any specified installation program. The latest RSU install program, V1.94, is available from the URL below. Further instructions and information on RSU (and links to the IBM page to get it all, as well as a local copy) can be found on the WarpSpeed Computers Updates page that can be accessed via the following URL: http://www.warpspeed.com.au/u-warp.htm
  • MANUAL
The manual method involves downloading the CSD zip file, extracting it and then running the CSDInst.Exe program. The zip file also has a CMD file in it to do this for you (UPDINST.CMD). To retrive the file, you have a number of options and methods available to you. They are FTP, Gopher or Telnet.
    • FTP
To use FTP, log on using the following details:
      Host: ftp.warpspeed.com.au
      User ID: Updates
      Password: Updates
Make sure that your transfer mode is set to BINARY and then GET the appropriate file.
To use a web browser for ftp, you may enter a URL of: ftp://Updates:Updates@ftp.warpspeed.com.au/WarpSpeed/
    • GopherTo Use Gopher, you can connect using one of two ports (70 or 77). For example: Gopher -p 70 -h updates.warpspeed.com.au or Gopher -p 77 -h updates.warpspeed.com.au
    • Telnet
The telnet methods allows you to log onto the BBS. Enter: Telnet bbs.warpspeed.com.au
  • AUTOMATIC
The automatic method is to use the retrieve software updates program provided by IBM. There are two different versions of the retrieve software updates program. The first which was supplied with Warp 3 (not Warp 4), used a gopher server on port 77. If you are using Warp 3 then enter: Update -h updates.warpspeed.com.au -t C:\GU20 (assuming that C:\GU20 was where you installed the utilities).(These pages also have FTP links as well)

NewCalls 1.01 (from Carsten Arnold)
The new version 1.01 from NewCalls is available on Carsten Arnlod's webpage. The program is a patch for the pmmerge.dll. The pmmerge.dll opens the INI-files with a flag OPEN_FLAGS_WRITE_THROUGH and the data will be written on the disk without caching. The reason why IBM did that way is maybe the security but in Carsten Arnlod's opinion is it not nessesary. The idea for the program is from Peter Fitzsimmons. With NewCalls the modulentry DOSCALL will be replaced in the pmmerge.dll with NEWCALL. The NEWCALLS.DLL included forwarder to all functions of DOSCALL, expect DOS32OPEN, that function will be relpaced with an own implementation _DOS32OPEN. _DOS32OPEN replaces the flag OPEN_FLAGS_WRITE_THROUGH and then calls DOS32OPEN in DOSCALLS. Carsten has written an installer and the NEWCALLS.DLL is now smaller (no there's nothing missing :-) No other additional tools now used anymore. The program is freeware. In this version a bugin the installer has been solved: If the newcalls.dll already exists (e.g. after install of a fixpak) the installer canceld the installation.

SNES9x and Retrocade (from Marty)
SNES9x is an emulator for Nintendo's 16 bit home gaming console, the Super Nintendo It featured sequels to most of the games that the 8 bit Nintendo made famous, as well as having some new gems of its own. Through the magic of Scitech's Multiplatform Graphics Library (MGL), this gaming experience can now be brought natively to OS/2 users.
Retrocade is an emulator which specializes in arcade classics. It has an attractive and futuristic user interface built in, and boasts well-optimized assembly code for maximum emulation performance with minimal performance impact to other concurrently running
applications. Both of these emulators have been updated as follows:
SNES9x changes:
  • Updated to work with SDD beta 32
Retrocade changes:
  • Updated to work with SDD beta 32
  • Changed audio buffer size up to 2K rather than 1K. This may work better for people who previously had audio problems.
An MGL full screen version of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is nearing completion.

3D animated button for Vispro/REXX (from Eric Lavoie)
You can now download a new beta 3D animated fly-over button object for VisPro REXX. It is released as a beta, the testing of it has been minimal but it should work fine. The object gives Rexx programmers an animated button. The object is only available for Vispro Rexx for now (there is a bug in the Vispro ToolKit that stops me from releasing it for Vispro C and C++). If some C programmers want to use these object it is possible to do so, but there are no docs that allow to use it. If you are interested in using these without using Vispro C just send us an email.

ISDNPM 3.0 (from Adrian Gschwend)
After a lot of rumours about the product availability it really looks like ISDNPM 3.0 is ready to buy now! For those of you who don't know it, ISDNPM is a very nice way to connect to the internet if you have an ISDN-Adapter with CAPI 1.1 or NEW: CAPI 2.0 driver. Unfortunately there is no way so far to buy this product online but maybe this will change if more people are interested in it. If you are interested in ISDNPM I recommend you to subscribe to the mailinglist at Egroups. Note that there are "just" users on this list, as far as I know no developers of ISDNPM. It's a german group but I'm sure they will also support you if you speak english :- I have nothing to do with ISDNPM, I just post this message because other people might be interested in this great product. Note that I just translated the features from a german posting in a newsgroup.
Maybe the translation is not always correct, I'm sorry about that ;-) Some of the new features:
CAPI-Version:
  • CAPI 2.0 or CAPI 1.1 support
  • IDI-Interface (Diehl)
ISDN-Cards:
  • you can connect up to 8 ISDN-Cards with ISDNPM
COM-Ports:
  • ISDN can use up to 4 serial ports for modem connection.
NDIS-Interface
  • beside the 'sl0' Interface ISDNPM can be used over a LAN-Interface. This simplifies the use of NETBIOS over TCP/IP
PPP over Ethernet:
  • for the use of TDSL ISDNPM can connect to this interface as well over a protocol device driver.
Client/Server:
  • ISDNPM is also a very good choice as a dialin server.
Protocols:
Beside the 'old' protocols like HDLC, X75 and SLIP ISDNPM also supports PPP with the following features:
  • SYNCHRON (ISDN), ASYNCHRON (Modem)
  • authentification using PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP as client and server
  • authentification based on the ISDN-callerid
  • Dialback client/server
  • Multilink, which means dynamic channelbundling depending on the network load
  • several types of compression
  • dynamic distribution of IP-Adresses out of a POOL
  • declaration resp. interpretation of DNS-Adresses
Firewall:
  • You can define complex rules for each IP-connection. There are filters for incoming packets, outgoing packets and for the control of AUTODIAL The filter is able to analyze the following information:
    • IP-Source, IP-Destination
    • Protocoll
    • Source-Port, Destination-Port
    • ICMP-Type
    • TCP-Flags
    • Content of data
    • date/time (work in progress)
Masquerading/NAT:
  • For sure ISDNPM also supports IP-Masquerading and Network Adress Translation which makes it possible to connect several computers to the internet with just one IP-Adress.
Accounting:
  • ISDNPM is able to create a detailed report of IP-Traffic. It saves detailled information of each connection in a LOG-File
Trace:
  • There are a lot of information available for analyzing connection problems
Controlling:
  • Beside manual control it's possible to control ISDNPM over a PIPE and a TCP-Socket.
Registration of ISDNPM 3.0 costs 60DM (Deutsche Mark), because the price is very low it's not possible to buy an update of an old version.

Warpzilla M17 Fixpak 3 & 4 (from Henry Sobotka)
Fixpak 3 & 4: Added our own converter to Unicode to replace use of the XP one and now get national characters instead of little houses (ASCII 127) when copying in. Replacement DLL (128K). Again, I would appreciate people in different locales testing it.The latest wdgtos2.dl (129K) has a file dialog that remembers the last user-selected directory when it opens, and for File Save displays the name of the chosen file (or "index.html" for paths ending in a slash) in the filename field. It includes all the clipboard fixes in the versions released yesterday and earlier today.

PSI Utilities 0.30b (from Peter H.J. van der Kamp)
I have made a PM environment for the PSI Utilities of Erik Huelsmann. These utilities enable you to exchange data between Psion Series x handheld computers and OS/2.
What are the PSI Utilities?
The goal of the PSI Utilities is to facilitate use of Psions (and later other PDAs) with OS/2. Since I have always been very disappointed with the fact that there is never any software around for OS/2, especially when you need it, I decided to take up this project. The PSI Utilities connect to your OS/2 system over the serial cable that came with the machine. It's the same cable you can use to connect to a windows system. The PSI Utilities establish a connection over this cable with a server application allowing you to copy, delete or rename files. All this is achieved through commands you may very well know from the OS/2 command prompt: DIR, COPY, ATTRIB and REN have been cloned to perform their respective tasks on the Psion instead of on your local harddisk.

DeleGate 6.1.x (from Oleg Deribas)
The SOURCE from DeleGate 6.1.17 is released now but the OS/2-binaries are just 6.1.12 and available here directly.
DeleGate is a multi-purpose application level gateway, or a proxy server which runs on multiple platforms (Unix, Windows and OS/2). DeleGate mediates communication of various protocols (HTTP, FTP, NNTP, POP, Telnet, etc.), applying cache and conversion for mediated data, controlling access from clients and routing toward servers. It translates protocols between clients and servers, merging several servers into a single server view with aliasing and filtering. Born as a tiny proxy for Gopher in March 1994, it has steadily grown into a general purpose proxy server. Besides proxy, DeleGate can be used as a simple origin server for some protocols (HTTP, FTP and NNTP).

EF Commander 2.31 (Update) (from Joerg Sievers)
The EF Commander, developed by Emil Fickel (aka known as PM Commander) has not been named in OS2.org until now but it seems that the development is not stopped on that software.
The shareware-application is a native PM-NortonCommander clone and you can switch between different languages like English, Danish, Spanish, Italian, German etc.
I have written a mail to the author to get informations what will go on with the development of the OS/2-version and here is his (translated) answer:
"The development goes on! My goal is to update the OS/2-version to the level of the other versions. There is much work to do and it won't be ready in a few days. I have to make the filemanagement new because in the past, more than 6 years ago, I did it like the Norton Commander and under Windows it is now more flexible and can do much more things."
