From: Joachim Benjamins < joachimDESPAM@DESPAMmensys.nl >

Product Announcement
May 29, 2007
Subject: Support Agreement (12 months) for OpenOffice.org for eComStation and IBM OS/2
Reference SSI Product Announcement, November 4, 2005, same subject
Effective date: May 29, 2007

Effective immediately, Serenity Systems International will be distributing a GA version of OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 to all users who ordered the Support Agreement for OpenOffice.org product. This version has been compiled to run on IBM OS/2 and eComStation as a native application. OpenOffice.org version 1.1.5 will no longer be distributed.

OpenOffice.org for IBM OS/2 and eComStation users has successfully passed all the testing procedures in place for other platforms, including Microsoft Windows(r), Linux, and Solaris(r). This includes a 48 hour automated testing cycle designed to use every dialog and runtimes exceeding 24 consecutive hours during which the application is
subjected to constant usage.

Support Agreement users whose 12 month term has expired will be able to download a copy of OpenOffice.org 2.0.4. Current Support Agreement users will also be able to:

- Report issues and open support tickets
- Download fixes, updates, and enhancements
- Test new versions as they become available

Planned updates and enhancements include:

- WPS file class: this class will enhance the file details page, showing the document properties.
- Printing: printing can be enabled by object file icon drag & drop over printer object, from WPS print menu, with drag & drop from OpenOffice.org window to the printer object.
- eComStation or IBM OS/2 look & feel.
- Drag & drop from WPS objects to OpenOffice.org window to allow opening new files, inserting new files, linking existing files.
- NLS language selection for UI using program object properties or by drag & drop of the locale object.
- Java enablement of OpenOffice.org allows scripts and wizards to function properly.
- Update of the code base to the latest available level.

These fixes and enhancements will be delivered to all active Support Agreement users. MSRP for the Support Agreement for OpenOffice.org for OS/2 and eComStation is $49US. MSRP for renewals is $29US. For more information, see http://www.ecomstation.com/openoffice
For a list of resellers, see http://www.ecomstation.com/buy

Serenity Systems International will comply with all elements and restrictions associated with the licensing and distribution and use of OpenOffice.org.

ClamAV 0.90.2 available (from http://www.os2news.com)
From: mc6530DESPAM@DESPAMmclink.it

ClamAV 0.90.2, a GPL anti-virus toolkit for eComStation and OS/2 Warp

Clam AntiVirus is a GPL anti-virus toolkit for UNIX (and OS/2). The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command line scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via
Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use with your own software. Most importantly, the virus database is kept up to date.

A multithread plugin for InetPowerServer is available, ask for details (not free software).

Download new version from Hobbes:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=clamav

Additional requirements:
- libc 0.6.2 runtime:
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.2-csd2.wpi (currently
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/gcc/libc-0_6_2-csd2.wpi )
- libc pathrewriter:
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/contrib/klibccfg.wpi (or incoming
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/klibccfg.wpi )

Since this software is ported for free, donations are welcome! you can use PayPal to donate me and support OS/2 developement. See my homepage for details, or ask :-)
At least, a post card is welcome!

VOICE Newsletter: Associate Editor wanted (from http://www.os2news.com)
The VOICE Newsletter is looking for a new Associate Editor.

Over the last year, vocational and personal issues have reduced the time that our Editor-in-Chief could donate to the VOICE Newsletter to a considerable extent several times. The rest of the editorial staff has already been short on spare-time for a longer while. Since contact with authors and the first preparation of articles has almost exclusively been handled by him and nobody else is able to build the final issue, issues have been
delayed -- in case of the latest issue by two months. This situation needs to be improved.

We are looking for a new Associate Editor who can help with the communication with authors, preparation of articles, and coordination of the team on a regular basis, and who builds an issue in case the Editor-in-Chief is not available.

The requirements for the position are as follows:

* Persistence: We need a commitment to the job for a longer period. There is no use in training someone who's going to leave again two months later.

* Reliability: We rely on you getting your work done, and done correctly, before certain deadlines. Of course, there always is the possibility of things getting in the way--in such cases tell us about it in a timely manner.

* Grammar and spelling knowledge: As many articles aren't written by native speakers, proof-reading and editing is required.

* XHTML/CSS skills: Knowledge of which tags there are and what a CSS class is appropriate.

* Basic OS/2 and REXX knowledge: You should be able to run programs via the command line and adapt existing REXX scripts to your system.

The job consists of:

* Encouraging people to write articles if, e.g., you see interesting messages in OS/2 resources.

* Review of submitted articles, communication with authors regarding content, phrasing, and bylines.

* Formatting articles according to our author guidelines.

* Possibly giving advise to the translation team, e.g., regarding idioms and jargon.

* Building the final version of the VOICE Newsletter issue if other editors are not available. Compared to former times, the build process has been largely automated and become a lot easier. We would like to switch to using a CMS but due to time constraints that is not an option at the moment.

If you are interested, please contact us at editor@os2voice.org.

New site design at http://smedley.info/os2ports (from http://www.os2news.com)
From: Paul Smedley < paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info >

Hi All,

Just to let people know that there is a spiffy new site design at http://smedley.info/os2ports - with many thanks to Joachim Benjamins from Mensys for doing the initial work to setup the site in a CMS.

For those that are interested, the site is done using CMS made simple (http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/) and is (of course) running on eComStation with my ports of Apache2 v2.2.4, MySQL v5.0.41 & PHP v5.2.2

Cheers,

Paul.

VOICE Newsletter: Tips Editor Wanted (from http://www.os2news.com)
Our Tips Editor, William D Loughman, has informed us that due to changes of personal nature he has to retire from his position as Tips Editor for the VOICE Newsletter. We express our sincere thanks for his work, and we are certainly going to miss YKE's comments.

We are searching for a person to take over Bill's position.

* Grammar and spelling knowledge: As many tips do not come from native speakers, proof-reading and editing is required.

* Information resources: You should be subscribed to at least a few of the OS/2-related mailing lists or newsgroups, and scan these for interesting information on a regular basis.

The following is desirable but not required:

* XHTML/CSS skills: Knowledge of which tags there are and what a CSS class is appropriate.

The job consists of:

* Scanning information resources for potential tips.

* Assembling tips that come from above resources or have been submitted directly to VOICE. This includes a short introduction for each tip.

* Proof-reading including corrections of awkward phrasing as well as bad grammar and spelling. Our proof-readers do edit the Tips page, too, but they shouldn't have to completely rephrase things.

* Formatting the Tips page according to our author guidelines.

* Possibly giving advise to the translation team, e.g., regarding idioms and jargon.

If you are interested, please contact us at editor@os2voice.org.
