WordPerfectP 5.1 DOS VESA Driver (from Martin R. Hadam)
Not really strictly OS/2-related, but since quite a few OS/2 users still use WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS as their wordprocessor, the following message may be relevant to them:
With the recent discussion here in mind about not having the ability for a high resolution graphic preview on WordPerfect 5.1 (!!; not v6) for DOS, I've sent a message to the SDD-OS2 mailing list asking if there was eventually an option to do e.g. 8514/A emulation (i.e. emulating an old ATI card) with SDD. With the first response being rather negative, I've received today an update by Michal Necasek from SciTech.
In short, after doing some more research, he found that it should be not too difficult to write a VESA (!) driver for WP5.1 for DOS. Of course, there has to be some more demand than just myself... . It's also not unlikely that it will not be a free tool - since I stated in my request that those who need it would certainly be willing to pay for such a long-awaited driver. Personally, I don't think this should be a problem for those who keep using WP5.1 today.
In order to find out about potential interested "customers", I'm volunteering to collect all requests here and forward them to SDD. So, in case you're interested, please let me know via email to Hadam.Martin@MH-Hannover.de with "WP5.1 VESA Driver Request" in the subject line. If you need several licenses, please also include this number. Your name and email address will only be handed over to SciTech and used for feedback to you from myself, but is not made available to anyone else.
Please note that such a driver should be useful to WP 5.1 running in plain DOS or any other OS providing full screen DOS boxes (like OS/2).

Crystal PCI Soundcard driver (from Joerg Skottke)
There is a new audio-driver-version (3.08) for Crystal-PCI-Soundcards with CS4614, CS4624 and CS4280 Chips.
You can create a disk out of this diskimage with LOADDSKF (or if you have the gnu-utils installed also you can use dd if=aftpitos.dsk of=a: echo=on logdisk=on bs=32k (and then eject - reinsert the floppy))
It's a version for Thinkpad's but it works well on my Desktop-System (noname CS4614 chip-soundcard)
Only 4 files changed in comparison to the 3.06 version and I just copied this files over the old ones
  • \os2\boot\cwcmmpm.sys
  • \os2\boot\cwcspud.sys
  • \mmos2\dll\cardinfo.dll
  • \mmos2\dll\cwinst.dll
:-)) Now the flash Plugin in netscape works! :-))
:-)) And I can use the 'pause'-feature in z! :-))

WARNING

It works for me, but one other guy reported that this new 3.08 version causes TRAPS on his machine. So be careful and be shure you have a backup of the old driver-version.
