InJoy Dialer 2.3 - with IPSec support (from Bjarne Jensen)
F/X Communications announced the release of InJoy version 2.3. InJoy is known as the mission critical Point-to-Point (PPP) Internet Dialer that with its powerful features and unmatched performance brought professional dial-up based networking to OS/2.

Along with a broad range of connectivity features, InJoy offers affordable gateway, firewall and VPN capability to consumers, small businesses and large enterprises.

This version introduces support of the interoperable IPSec VPN standard, allowing OS/2 companies to easily create secure channels to other major vendors in the market or to other InJoy products.

IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) is an Internet standard for interconnected, secure networking devices and the predominant technology in Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). It provides reliable and interoperable data exchange, ensuring confidentiality, integrity and authenticity of transmitted information.

The InJoy Dialer can be used as a software VPN client, allowing remote dial-up workers to connect to the corporate network using secure tunnels over the Internet. The IPSec Plugin is fully IPSec compatible, and includes software-based 128-bit 3-DES cryptography.

The release of the InJoy Dialer with IPSec support is exciting news for enterprises seeking to provide secure connectivity for OS/2 branch offices, business partners, and traveling employees as well as data communications in the local area networks (intranet security).

new Zampa (formerly TheWall) (from Eirik Overby)
Just informing you all about a new version of The Wall, now renamed to Zampa. The current revision is 0.99.

Zampa is a program to administer the configuration files for the built-in firewall in IBM TCP/IP v4.1 and above for OS/2. This firewall is not at all documented in OS/2, but with the help from the redbook on the AIX firewall, and with help from a few other people, I've been able to make this program that does just about everything - automagically. Configuring the firewall is now a breeze :)

New in this version, except from the name change, is mainly a few small bugfixes and one big one: You can now work with more than 10 firewall rules ;) Rather embarrassing bug, there...

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to come up with a new version, but here it is... :)

Styler/2 V.0.99 (from Alessandro Cantatore)
The first Styler/2 registrable version is now available!!!

The registration program, which will allow to get rid of the time limit, although is ready and fully tested, is not yet included in the program archive since I still have to work out some details. It shall be available for download in few days!
In future it will be enclosed in the program archive, probably as a page of the preferences notebook.

This is still version 0.99. I plan to distribute version 1.0 before the end of October.
There is no new feature in this release although there are many hidden enhancements that should make the program more stable, run faster and use less memory.

I have uploded a new version of CopyWave on my homepage.

The program copies parts from an existing PCM-Wave file starting from an indicated place in an indicated length into a new Wave file. The files can be very big.

CopyWave used now the OS/2-API to file I/O no more the C-functions, this incrases the performance.

MIDI Station Sequencer 2.0 Beta 6 (from Christopher Hodges)
This is to inform you that MIDI Station Sequencer (MSS) Beta 6 is now available from my website for download. Some of the new features available are:
  1. Completed Piano Roll module
  2. Fixed problems with audio recording
  3. Fixed layout in Audio Track window - waves now display proper lengths
  4. Improved playback performance (still a few things left to do here)
  5. Minor bug fixes and enhancements

The product is pretty much feature complete for this version. I strongly encourage you to try this version out as soon as possible and give me some feedback on it. Look for the GA version very soon. Also if you're interested in purchasing the sequencer I would recommend that you do so now because there may be a price increase when the product goes gold.

IMPORTANT!! IMPORTANT!! IMPORTANT!! IMPORTANT!!

There is something that you can do to drastically improve your playback performance. Change the timer sensitivity to 1ms. Originally the default was 5ms but this has turned out not to be optimal for playback. Look in the settings notebook on the "Advanced" tab and you'll see the option to change the timer sensitivity. You'll find that the performance improves considerably.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

New Release of WiseManager (from Bob St.John)
WiseManager Release 1.2 now generally available.

Serenity Systems will be demontrating the new release of the Managed Clients(r) and WiseManager(r) software at Warp Expo on Saturday, September 18. Includes expanded application support and multi-media support, previously unavailable on OS/2 RIPL clients ... now supported with WiseClients.

WiseManager automatically creates network clients, installing OS/2 and configuring the systems, including SVGA support. At Warp Expo West the new software will build six clients with differing hardware requiremenst as part of the Vendor 100 Progarm, executing a complete network install of the OS and 100 applications ... in minutes ... redefining the expression, "one button install".

The supported clients will be able to use SoundBlaster, multimedia system sound, MIDI and VoiceType. Capabilities never before available in this environment. These machines will be available for use by hundreds of visitors to the exhibit area.

The demonstration will show how a failing workstation can be removed, a new workstation connected and immediately back "online" with the complete user desktop intact, applications and OS. This is an important feature for support of desktop business users, reducing down time to the period it takes to plug in another supported PC.

WiseManager is useful to OS/2 accounts and to consultants interested in providing management of desktop computers as a fee service. A marketing white paper is available to qualified consultants explaining how to sell the Managed Client as a fee service, minimizing the difficulty normally associated with "selling OS/2". An HTML version of the paper may be requested from me by email, or by requesting a Channel Partner log on to the Serenity Systems web site.

DeleGate v5.9.4 (from Gerhard Arnecke)
DeleGate version 5.9.4 is now available.

DeleGate is a multi-purpose application level gateway, or a proxy server which runs on multiple platforms (Unix, Windows and OS/2). DeleGate mediates communication of various protocols (HTTP, FTP, NNTP, POP, Telnet, etc.), applying cache and conversion for mediated data, controlling access from clients and routing toward servers. It translates protocols between clients and servers, merging several servers into a single server view with aliasing and filtering. Born as a tiny proxy for Gopher in March 1994, it has steadily grown into a general purpose proxy server. Besides proxy, DeleGate can be used as a simple origin server for some protocols (HTTP, FTP and NNTP).

DBExpert 2.0.8 Available (from DBExpert Support)
Sundial Systems has released Version 2.0.8 of DBExpert. This maintenance release update is free to owners of DBExpert 2.0 and above. It includes about twenty bug fixes plus a few new features.

Most significant among the new features is the ability to "pack" a DBExpert application file. This can result in substantially smaller files that enable the application to load much faster as well.

Of particular note among the bug fixes is one that is Y2K related. The problem involves the display of two-digit dates once the PC clock rolls over to the year 2000. Thus, all current owners of DBExpert are urged to obtain and install the update before the end of this year.

Enlightenment DR0.16.4CVS (from pla@cland.ru)
I want to present you Enlightenment 0.16.4CVS - the latest CVS release:
  • More than 100 bugfixes
  • ALL Themes support - now E can handle BlueSteel!
  • Improved size and speed
  • Themes and launch bugfixes (OS/2)
  • Latest CVS code used now (though it may be bad as this code may be unstable :()

Anyway I finally have E under my thumb with all that themes support of latest CVS version.

If you like E please make a web page about it - share E/2 knowledge with people! BE ACTIVE!
Make your own themes, send screenshots to Linux sites, showing it OS/2 running it :)

Anyway please remember if you are working with X at work, do not overestimate it - it is just a big toy for OS/2 users :)
It needs much RAM, much libs and so on, in other words do not replace mwm or fvwm if you like them

New E/2 CVS requirements: Just the same as I already posted - SHM is the key part, use only HCCHU server and latest shm, otherwise you will have crashes and MONSTROUS memory leaks. 64 MB Ram is fairly good enough for E - it uses approx 2-4 megs of memory.

I am planning to make new E CVS version every week on Friday. Their names will be enlightenment_cvs_(number of release)_os2.zip Remember, you must have E DR 0.16.4 set up and running on your X/2, I just supply new configs and binaries

For now download: CVS_1
People without DR 0.16.4 should download: enl0164.zip and imlib195.zip.

You'll need to be registered on the website to complete the download. (I've been registered for about 10 months, and am happy to report that IBM hasn't used the information to spam me).

SystemView Agent (from Timur Tabi)
SystemView Agent for OS/2 is available for download.

SVA provides some DMI (desktop management interface) support, namely DMI 1.1. The latest version is DMI 2.0, but that's also old since SMBIOS has replaced DMI as a means of querying information about your computer from the BIOS. Supposedly, Netfinity can use SVA as it's "DMI Service Layer", although I haven't gotten that part to work yet.

Anyway, if you're looking for a means to manage the clients on your LAN, or just query information about your system, and you don't have any money to spend, this is one option.

Anti-Virus software from Command Software Systems (from Timur Tabi)
It's amazing what you can find out by doing a search for "OS/2" on www.prnewswire.com.

Command Software Systems has an OS/2 version of their anti-virus software. I don't know how good it is, but you learn more about it and download a demo from http://www.commandcom.com/html/products/os2.html

One tidbit that suprised me is that CSS now owns the GEAR CD-R recording software that _used to_ be available for OS/2.

StarOffice 5.1a (from Joerg Sievers)
StarOffice 5.1a for OS/2 now also works with JAVA 1.1.8, version 5.1 was not able to do that.
Also the StarWriterHTML-templates has been removed, that caused problems with defining other HTML-associations.
