Mozilla's Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 Has Been Released (from http://www.os2news.com) |
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Sander Nyman < 2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net > Michael Kaply has released Mozilla's Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 (Official) for OS/2. Thunderbird is Mozilla's state of the art, full-featured e-mail, RSS and newsgroup client. It is OPEN SOURCE, and free. This release contains fixes for stability and security. You can download it here: http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/2.0.0.17/contrib/thunderbird-2.0.0.17.en-US.os2.zip NOTE: In the unlikely event that you don't already have it, this release requires the C runtime DLLs (libc-0.5.1) from Innotek. Version 0.5.1 includes an installer. Available here: http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/runtime/libc-0.5.1.exe NOTE: To have both Firefox, & Thunderbird in use at the same time (or ANY other Mozilla app) they *MUST* be at the SAME version level, or a mismatched DLL will still be in memory when you attempt to start a second Mozilla based program. The easiest way to get around this limitation, and use DIFFERENT version levels of Firefox, Thunderbird, Kompozer, etc., is with Rich Walsh's Run! utility. It is tiny, and VERY easy to set up. To make life even easier, I recommend that you download & use the Internet Application Integration utility from Chuck McKinnis, which actually contains the Run! utility, and sets it up for you, along with coordinating your web browser with your email client for 'mailto' links, etc. You can find it here: http://7cities.net/~mckinnis/code/iai1090.exe Or, if you'd rather do it yourself, here is the Run! utility: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/run_075.zip Thunderbird extensions (add-ons) that add additional functionality are available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/browse/type:1 Thunderbird themes (skins) are available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/browse/type:2 A utility to migrate mail from PMMail to Thunderbird is available here: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/mail/reader/pmm_tbird.zip For a list of what's new in this release: http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/releases/ For more information on the Thunderbird e-mail and newsgroup client: http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/ Tips and tricks for Thunderbird can be found here: http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/tips If you have questions, or just want the latest, greatest tips for Firefox, Thunderbird, & SeaMonkey, Steve Wendt's excellent 'Tips For Warpzilla' page can be found here: http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/Warpzilla.html And finally, if you still have questions, or just want to participate in a Mozilla for OS/2 discussion forum, the Warpzilla newsgroup can be found here: news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2 -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

Workplace Sans True Type font Version 0.5 (from http://www.os2news.com) |
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ Alex Taylor has updated his Workplace Sans TrueType font to Version 0.5: http://users.socis.ca/~ataylo00/creative/fonts/#wpsu Please read the note below before installing. Workplace Sans is a light condensed sans-serif TrueType font with Unicode encoding. This font has been carefully designed to resemble, as much as possible, the OS/2 bitmap font 'WarpSans'. This resemblance is at its best when displayed on-screen at 9 point/120 dpi, or 11 point/96 dpi. NOTE: With version 0.5, I have embarked on a fairly extensive re-tooling of Workplace Sans. Most of the glyphs are a lot cleaner and more regular in appearance now (although still not perfect). I decided to recreate the font file from scratch, and add each glyph as I redesigned it. Version 0.5 represents the first milestone in this effort. Version 0.5 of Workplace Sans does NOT support all of the characters that were included in the previous versions. At present, only the Latin-1 character set (basically, OS/2 codepages 850 and 819) are supported.' -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

More info on MySQL 5.1.28-rc (from http://www.os2news.com) |
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ Hi All, An OS/2 binary of the below is now available from my ports page at: http://os2ports.smedley.info Original Message Subject: MySQL 5.1.28-rc has been released Date: Sat, 13 Sep 2008 16:15:37 +0200 From: Kent Boortz Dear MySQL users, We are proud to present to you the MySQL Server 5.1.28-rc release, a new 'release candidate' version of the popular open source database. Bear in mind that this is still a 'candidate' release, and as with any other pre-production release, caution should be taken when installing on production level systems or systems with critical data. For production level systems using 5.0, we would like to direct your attention to the product description of MySQL Enterprise at: http://mysql.com/products/enterprise/ The MySQL 5.1.28-rc release is now available in source and binary form for a number of platforms from our download pages at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/ and mirror sites. Note that not all mirror sites may be up to date at this point in time, so if you can't find this version on some mirror, please try again later or choose another download site. We welcome and appreciate your feedback, bug reports, bug fixes, patches etc.: http://forge.mysql.com/wiki/Contributing The following section lists the changes from version to version in the MySQL source code since the latest released version of MySQL 5.1, the MySQL 5.1.26-rc release. It can also be viewed online at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/news-5-1-28.html Sincerely, Kent Boortz The MySQL build team at Sun Microsystems Important bugs fixed (5.1.28): * Important Change: Security Fix: It was possible to circumvent privileges through the creation of MyISAM tables employing the DATA DIRECTORY and INDEX DIRECTORY options to overwrite existing table files in the MySQL data directory. Use of the MySQL data directory in DATA DIRECTORY and INDEX DIRECTORY is now disallowed. This is now also true of these options when used with partitioned tables and individual partitions of such tables.(Bug#32167: http://bugs.mysql.com/32167, CVE-2008-2079 (http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-2079)) * Security Enhancement: The server consumed excess memory while parsing statements with hundreds or thousands of nested boolean conditions (such as OR (OR ... (OR ... ))). This could lead to a server crash or incorrect statement execution, or cause other client statements to fail due to lack of memory. The latter result constitutes a denial of service. (Bug#38296: http://bugs.mysql.com/38296) * Incompatible Change: An additional correction to the original MySQL 5.1.23 fix was made to normalize directory names before adding them to the list of directories. This prevents '/etc/' and '/etc' from being considered different, for example. OS/2 port of GCC 3.4.6 now available (from http://www.os2news.com) |
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ Hi All, I've been spending a great deal of time over the last few weeks working on getting GCC 3.4.6 working on OS/2. Our current GCC (3.3.5) is starting to cause problems with projects like Mozilla due to it's age and the reluctance of the Mozilla maintainers to accept patches that are due to bugs in old versions of GCC. My port is now in a state where it can be used to compile many different programs (rsync, mysql, apache2, samba, firefox) so I figured it's time to publically announce it. The port is largely based on Knut's changes to v3.3.5 that are contained in Netlabs SVN. Thanks to the brave guys on the libc.user mailing list that helped test the previous build and pointed out the likely cause of the problems building Mozilla :) The OS/2 binaries (and source patches) are available from my ports page at: http://os2ports.smedley.info -> comments: 0 [ Version for printing ] [ Send via eMail ] |

Programs may be written to use this code, and thus be able to access a variety of file formats without actually knowing what format the pictures are in, or any details about file format itself. It comes with a useful set of command line bitmap manipulation tools. Get package gbmos2_160_bin.zip or the WarpIN installation package from Hobbes (see below). Enhanced GBMV/GBMV2 Version 1.51 -------------------------------- GBMV2 is a fast and simple bitmap viewer and editor for the OS/2 and eCS Presentation Manager. GBMV is a simple bitmap viewer. In this case please lookup the incoming folder. All downloads are also available on the GBM homepage (see above). What\'s new (highlights only): ----------------------------- GBM.DLL 1.60: * NEW: JPEG2000 Codec based on OpenJPEG 1.3+ (only for OpenWatcom builds) * NEW: Build support for Windows with OpenWatcom * FIX: Resolved problem with GBM_O_ and GBM_SEEK_ mode mapping for compilers that start definitions at 0x0. * PNG codec: - upgrade to Libpng 1.2.31 - use high memory allocation via GBM memory handler * JPG codec: - use high memory allocation via GBM memory handler - activate library defined code inlining * TIFF codec: - use high memory allocation via GBM memory handler - activate library defined code inlining - reject unsupport samplesPerPixel (IBM TIFF seems to write buggy images for 32bpp which are marked as graylevel image but has 4 samples per pixel) * BMP codec: - Add support for reading 16/32bpp BGR OS/2 1.2,1.2 bitmaps which are written by some apps when graphics card runs at 16/32bpp. * Many Makefile updates to support new build platforms * API changes: - Due to sync to official GBM sources, the old types BOOLEAN, byte, word and dword are obsolete and should no longer be used. Replacements are gbm_boolean, gbm_u8, gbm_u16, gbm_u32. This does not hurt binary compatibility! There is a fallback for clients, backward compatible types can be activated by defining OLD_GBM_TYPES. Please prefer switching to the new types. GBMV/GBMV2 1.51 * Allow window positioning on non-byte aligned x coordinate * Adjust worker thread priority to idle time to make the system more responsible. * Remember open/save format and path separately across sessions GBM File Dialog 1.51 * Added JPEG2000 format to online help * Some reformatting of the online help to make it more consistent * Selection of a different file type automatically changes the filename extension GBM plugin for Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox/SeaMonkey (NPGBM.DLL version 1.36) GBM for Lucide (LUGBM.DLL 1.35) * JPEG2000 support (requires GBM.DLL 1.60 or higher) * New user configurable background rendering (option progressive_render_pages) -> Improves page switching performance, especially when using high quality scaler. On dual-core systems the performance gain will be much higher than on single-core systems. -> Always progressive_render_pages/2 pages backward and forward will be calculated in background. * For lengthy operations now the hourglas mouse pointer is shown * The size and color depth of the current page is shown behind the format name in the document information dialog For more details see the change log in the documentation.
