Audio/Data-CD-Creator V0.38 (from Chris Wohlgemuth)
This is a frontend making the creation of your audio- or data-CDs easier. It's a new WPS folder class which hides you from the several options of cdrecord and mkisofs. Create your CD entirely via Drag'n'Drop.
You start creating a new CD project using a template in your templates folder. Just put files and folders or shadows of them into the Creator-folder, chose the options and press the 'Write'-button that's all. This frontend is fully WPS-aware cause it's a child of a normal folder class and inherits all the functionality of its parent class.

The executable of CDRTools is included in the distribution so if you don't need the CDRTools sourcefiles this package is all you need. This frontend is released under the Gnu Public Licence (GPL). See the file COPYING in the *.zip file.

Features:
    Full integration into the WPS
  • Use shadows for creating a virtual tree of files or putting together an audio sampler
  • Creation of TAO and DAO Audio CDs
  • DAO for audio CDs using cdrdao/2 with dynamic priority control
  • Writing of MP3 files
  • Support for grabbers
  • Creation of single- and multisession data CDs

New with V0.38 (23.02.2000):
Writer setup is now more easy
  • Fifo setting is now also used for DAO
  • Improved icons for Hires
  • Some help improvements
  • Fix: Language settings for keyboard sometimes changed (really fixed?)
  • Fix: CDRTools was broken since 0.37
  • Fix: Settings for hide and close window were lost
  • Fix: Another problem mit freeing shared memory removed

XWorkplace 0.9.1 developer release (from Christian Hennecke)
A first developer release of XWorkplace (0.9.1) has been released, right now only a english language version is available.
You really should take care about the mentioned warnings about some not 100% working features. If you do so, the paket should run quite stable, but without any guarantee for that. So this current version should only be used if you like to experience with pre-releases, or if you are just curious about the new features.

InetPowerServer v0.86b1 (from Terje Flaaronning)
InetPowerServer v0.86b1 is now available.

IPS is a multiprotocol server application allowing you to create your own ftp and/or mail server using your OS/2 or Windows machine. IPS supports FTP, POP3 and SMTP protocols. If you are running a dual OS setup IPS can use the exact same configuration on both OS/2 and Windows.

The only difference between the two platform version is the missing REXX and EA support of the Windows version.

Please not that the IPS mailing list is moved to eGroups.com to signup, there is a dialog on my web page.

The version of IPS is a MAJOR upgrade even though the version number would not indicate so. The overall performance has been improved to 10-15 times the one of the previous v0.85b6. So, if you felt IPS was slow or used to much CPU, these times are gone.

Logged changes since the previous version includes:
2000/02/20 21:00 InetPowerServer v0.86Beta1

What's new (system wide):
  • Fix: NT version should work again.
  • Fix: Minor Timer error when going into a new year (this was not a Y2k bug).
  • Fix: LogIt procedure in bin\startos2.cmd wrote incorrect time values to log file.
  • New: Added support for better debugging.
  • New: History.bat or .cmd is executed from IPS itself instead of the startup script.
  • New: Underlying tool kit has been optimized a lot, and there are still more to come.
  • Fix: NT socket parameters in NT version correctly set.
  • Fix: Error handling (and logging) improved.
  • Fix: Statistics file handling improved, only write updates when needed.
  • Fix: Overall performance improved a lot. Everything is much faster than before.
  • Fix: Bad handle misuse corrected.
  • New: Major redesign of internals, currently for easier code maintenance, will open for more possibilities later like dynamic service/group start/stop etc.
  • Fix: Socket handling in NT version cleaned up a bit, this should make NT socket handling just as good as the one for the OS/2 version.

What's new (FTPd service):
  • Fix: SITE WHO headers was moved one column to fit the output below.
  • Fix: PASV now works in IPS32 also.
  • New: ABOR command implemented for NT version.
  • New: Rewritten internal handling of [ACCESS] sections.
  • New: Added SITE RADM CGETS and UGETS functions to retrieve sections from configuration files.
  • New: SITE HELP moved from REXX into IPS binary, msg\ftp.hlp file added.
This makes it work on NT as well.

What's new (SMTPd service):
  • Fix: Message retrieve speed improved some, more to be done.
  • Fix: Message queue scanning activated for NT version as well.

RexxAutoStart v1.50 (from Herwig Bauernfeind)
This is to announce the availability of RexxAutoStart Version 1.50.
This release includes the following new features and bugfixes over the last published version 1.42:
  • support for Object Desktop's autostart features, which in combination with other WPS enhancements are often part of a hanging WPS problem upon startup. RexxAutoStart now addresses this issue, too. Code for this feature was provided by Chuck McCinnis.
  • bugfix: Only capital letters were properly recognized on some parameter switches.
  • draft of a GUI front end for RexxAutoStart.
    However, this is still unfinished.

For those of you who do not know what RexxAutoStart is: This program is a workaround for timing problems that lead to a WPS hang upon startup on certain OS/2 versions and fixlevels. Additionally it gives you a limited possibility to control the order of automatically started programs upon bootup and means to make any folder your startup folder.

RexxAutoStart is FREE software under the GNU GPL. Source code for RexxAutoStart is included. Source code for GUI front end upon request.

WebRoute/ISDN for OS/2 goes IPSec (from Markus Michels)
Our TCP/IP ISDN dialer will be enhanced to include security features like NAT, Masquerading, Fierewalling and IPSec. This will allow users to build secure networks over the Internet at a pricing level which can't be reached with any hardware router (the small ones don't support IPSec, mide-range ones do, but normally IPSec is a software upgrade you have to pay for). We expect availability in Q2. For information check the homepage -> products -> webroute or send me mail if you are interested in the security stuff.

IPSec IKE Server 1.1 (130) (from Bjarne Jensen)
F/X Communications announced today the second release of the Pluto IKE (Internet Key Exchange) Server for OS/2.

The Pluto IKE Server for OS/2 is an extended and managed port of Pluto 1.1, found in the Linux FreeS/WAN IPSec implementation. Pluto is released with source code under the GNU General Public License - free of charge.

Pluto runs as a server and implements the IKE protocol (RFC 2409). It verifies identifies, chooses security policies, and negotiates keys for IPSec (RFC 2401) implementations.

IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) is an Internet standard for interconnected, secure networking devices and the predominant technology in Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

New features in this OS/2 version:
  • New support for 1DES strengthens the IPSec compatibility and provides a significant speed advantage over the safer 3DES encryption.
  • Aggressive mode ISAKMP negotiation provides compatibility with implementations that rely on extended authentication, such as user accounts, certificates or soft tokens. This is an area of continued testing - please e-mail support@fx.dk for the latest developments.
  • Extended Road Warrior support for remote branch offices that has the IPSec gateway on a dynamic IP address. Previously Road Warriors were defined to be individual users.
  • Fixed a problem with TCP/IP 4.1 and aliases.

Successfully tested with these 3rd party IPSec implementations:
  1. F-Secure VPN+ 4.2 for Windows
  2. PGPnet 6.5.2a IPSEC Client from Network Associates

The IPSec Plugin is released as part of the InJoy Dialer (dial-out), InJoy Connect" (dial-in) and the InJoy Firewall. The Plugin enables these products to serve as an IPSec gateway, an IPSec server or as a simple VPN Client.

The release of an IKE Server and IPSec support for OS/2 is exciting news for enterprises seeking to provide secure connectivity for OS/2 branch offices, business partners, and travelling employees as well as data communications in the local area networks (intranet security).

Notice version 1.1 of Pluto is NOT compatible with previous versions of the InJoy IPSec plugin. A new Plugin will be released shortly.
