DFSee 10.8 released (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

DFSee version 10.8 has been released today, a minor release.

The Linux version now has file-dialog lists sorted alphabetically, and will assign proper RW attributes to any files created new. Then there are two fixes for the FAT(32) FORMAT dialog as well as several other minor fixes and enhancements.

Unless major bugs come to light, this will be the LAST 10.x minor release. The next one will be a major release 11.0 (payed upgrade from 10.x). 11.0 will feature more generic sorting capabilities and other enhancements for the file-dislogs, and perhaps more Airboot related support for eCS 2.1 and ext4 support for linux.

DFSee is a very powerful disk-utility with disk partitioning, filesystem and disk analysis, some file recovery and UNDELETE and smart imaging or cloning of partitions or complete disks.

Hi,
I’ve uploaded the first release candidate for the upcoming SeaMonkey 2.1. There were no OS/2 specific changes compared to the recently published beta 3. However, it should contain cross-platform fixes for bugs present in the beta.

VLC media player v1.1.9 for OS/2 (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

KO Myung-Hun has released an update to the VLC media player on Hobbes.

The cross-platform open-source multimedia framework, player and server VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player and multimedia framework capable of reading most audio and video formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, DivX, MPEG-1, mp3, ogg, aac ...) as well as DVDs (including menus), Audio CDs VCDs, and various streaming protocols. Read the readme.eng for installation instructions. I’ve successfully run this on my T61 with eCS 2.0. It is great to be able to play DVDs and even use the DVD menu. This package includes the source. Odin 0.6.21632 (2011-05-12) (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

There is a new version of ODIN on the Netlabs FTP server.

ODIN is the Open Source project to provide a win32 API for OS/2 and eComStation. Originally to allow OS/2 users to run Windows 32 bit applications. Now used to port windows applications to OS/2 and eComStation. The Odin runtime is a requirement for the newest developed versions of JAVA and Flash 10 for OS/2 and eCS.

0.6.21632 (2011-05-12)
----------------------

Dmitriy Kuminov:
- kernel32: Fixed: Parsing .SYM files when printing the stack trace in debug
mode was not thread safe which caused garbage and nested crashes.
- kernel32: SEH: Fixed a number of bugs in __try/__catch hangling that could
cause a bunch of various crashes when unwinding the Win32 exception chain
(usually at process termination, as a result of both a fatal exception or
a clean exit).
- kernel32: Do not use ODINCRT (VACRT) printf when handling XCPT_UNWIND in
debug mode since it’s known to produce deadlocks.
- kernel32: To complete the Win32 exception chain unwind support, make sure
it is unwound when the thread terminates itself with ExitThread or
ExitProcess etc. before removing its exception handlers from stack.
- wgss: Added a hack that makes sure the system lock is released when the
thread terminates. This avoids deadlocks at process termination leading to
hanging non-killable zombie processes, which is especially frequent on SMP
systems.
- gdi32: Fixed broken TextOut? API family that would draw text flipped along
the base line.
- comdlg32: Made PrintDlg?() use the native PM print dialog instead of the
Win32 clone. This looks much more native and gives access to all printer
settings.
- minivcrt: Fixed _fullpath()/_wfullpath() which was broken in many regards
(i.e. it would eat path components starting with "." and "..").

Java 1.6.0-b22 WSE (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Java is a very popular sophisticated programming environment. Applications written in the Java language are run inside a virtual machine (Java Virtual Machine, JVM) which provides a nearly identical behavior on all platforms that have a JVM implementation available. This "write once, run anywhere" approach means that developers can support a multitude of platforms while only having to maintain one code base. For users, availability of a current Java for OS/2 and eComStation means access to a huge number of existing applications.

For more information about Java, see: http://class='extlink'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_%28programming_language%29

Previously, Java had been made available for OS/2 and eComStation by IBM, Golden Code and Innotek. However, new versions with many changes and improvements have been released since then and current applications require a current JVM implementation. The new project will port a current JVM to OS/2 and eComStation. Dmitry Kumenov, who is well-known for his work on the Qt 3 and 4 ports, is the chief developer.
For information about the project and its status, please see: http://class='extlink'http://svn.netlabs.org/java

IMAP for Weasel mail server updated (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

The IMAP extension to the Weasel mail server has been updated to version
0.2. You can fetch it from

http://class='extlink'ftp://ftp.pmoylan.org/Weasel/imapd020.zip

Note that this will work only with registered versions of Weasel Pro.

There has been a major overhaul of the code that works out the MIME
structure of a message. This should fix problems that have occurred
while fetching a message that contains embedded MESSAGE/RFC822 parts.
