Scribus 1.3.6 for OS/2 and eComStation released (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

In addition to the information provided in the announcement for other platforms (see: http://http://www.scribus.net/?q=node/208), please note that the following requirements have to be met:

  • A copy of libc063.dll which can currently be downloaded from http://ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.3-csd3.zip and gcc434.dll which can be downloaded from http://http://download.smedley.info/gcc434.zip. Both files need to copied to C:\OS2\DLL (OS/2) or C:\ECS\DLL (eComStation).
  • Ghostscript and Python 2.6 (available from http://http://os2ports.smedley.info) are required to support some functionality. For instance, Python scripts won’t work if Python is missing. The print preview and EPS import will not work if Ghostscript isn’t available.
  • It also requires the Qt4 GA dll’s that can be downloaded as a WarpIN package from http://http://svn.netlabs.org/qt4

Download

You can download a ZIP archive containing an installer either from

http://title='Opens external link in new window' class='external-link-new-window' http://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus-devel/1.3.6/scribus-1.3.6-os2-20100329.zip/download

or

  • Fixed copy to clipboard in presentation mode
  • All normal accelerators now work in presentation mode too, including Ctrl-O, Ctrl-+, Ctrl-- and so on.
  • Both the full screen and presentation modes can now be closed by Alt-F4.
  • The full screen or presentation mode is properly saved when exiting Lucide and restored at startup.
  • Pressing the "+/=" key moves to the next page (previously, it was necessary to hold Shift to make it work in many keyboard layouts).
  • Unified keyboard navigation in all modes.
  • Auto-scroll the index window to make sure the current page is always visible.
  • Made Enter submit the edited text in multi-line entry fields.
  • Fixed scrolling the document with RMB and enabled it in presentation mode

1.30:

16.04.2010
Firefox 3.7a4pre available (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

This version contains several OS/2 enhancements and fixes:
Enhancements:
- scrolling should require 25-50% less CPU usage than previously;
there are other less noticable improvements in display speed
- previously, switching to a new tab before the page loaded
(i.e. getting a blank screen before anything was displayed)
consumed an extra 1-3mb of memory for the life of that tab;
this memory usage has been eliminated
- there’s a new OGG decoder as well as changes in the OS/2 audio
component that make it far less likely that normal system
activity will interrupt the audio stream
Fixes:
- users of Matrox video drivers should see a normal, non-slanted
display; however, video performance will be considerably
slower/more CPU-intensive than would be the case with SNAP
- users of FlashBlock will no longer see a floating rectangle
that fails to move or update when scrolling
Please let me know if you see any bugs or have other problems.

Dr. Message for OS/2 technology preview release 1 (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

I’ve managed to hook up enough of a GUI to the libpurple core to allow

instant messages to be sent and received, so I decided to distribute a

preliminary release of the binaries. It is VERY EARLY code, with many

things left intentionally unimplemented or not working at this time. My intention with releasing this is to get feedback on MAJOR compatibility problems and issues. Please read my web page and ReadMe file for more

details.

Update of Qt 4 Port to Version 4.6 Resumed (from http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Originally, further development had been halted at the end of March due to lack of funds. As with the initial port, development would have been funded by donations from the OS/2 and eComStation community. However, the amount of donations had only covered 34% of the required sum of 2500 Euro.

The withdrawal announcement sparked more donations and 94% of the required sum have been reached to this date. As a result, Silvan has decided to resume the project and would like to express his thanks to all contributors.

Please consider helping to cover the remaining cost by buying sponsor units at the Mensys online shop at:

http://http://www.mensys.com/NetlabsQT4

Surplus funds will be used for further developmentm, e.g., a future update of the port to version 4.7.

The detailed project status, history, and roadmap are available at:

http://http://svn.netlabs.org/qt4

A donation meter is available at:

http://http://qt.netlabs.org/en/site/index.xml

Qt is a cross-platform application development framework, which is widely used as a widget toolkit for developing GUI programs but also for console tools and servers. Using Qt, developers can write applications once and deploy them across many desktop and embedded operating systems without having to rewrite the source code.

Availability for OS/2 and eComStation both means that developers can easily port existing Qt applications and create new ones more easily than with standard PM programming or the outdated, buggy IBM Open Class Library.
