A NOTE ABOUT HOTEL RESERVATIONS If anyone tried to make reservations this past weekend for the Sheraton Denver Tech Center Hotel and had problems, please try again now. Several people reported that the online reservation system stated the Warpstock room block was filled, but there are a few rooms left. The problem was that the rooms alotted to Wednesday October 20th had been used up. The hotel has added more rooms for that day and they have corrected the reservations for anyone that notified them, so the problem should now be corrected. If anyone does have any further problems making reservations please contact Mark Dodel: ( madodelDESPAM@ptd.net remove the DESPAM first) and I will have it fixed as soon as possible. To make reservations at the Warpstock rate online go to https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/res?id=0403301503&key=23398 Or phone: 1-800-325-3535 You can register for Warpstock itself online at http://www.bamart.com/warpstockinc The fine print This eBulletin is intended to provide regular communication to people interested in Warpstock 2004. Warpstock eNewsletter # 7 (from Bill Armstrong) |
This eNewsletter is designed to provide information about Warpstock 2004, the latest
edition of the annual event. There\'s important information about registration prices for the event in this enewsletter, so please read on. IN THIS ISSUE * Early Bird Pricing Extended * Schedule of Classes, Presentations and Tutorials available *A special note to prepare for a 1-day Class * If you\'re coming, reserve now * Reaching Denver by Air EARLY BIRD PRICING Warpstock organizers have decided to extend the discounts for early pricing on registrations to September 30. The decision was made in response to some concerns that the schedule for Warpstock 2004 was incomplete when the original cut-off date passed. Here are your registration choices in USD: Warpstock 4-day (+both socials): $195 Warpstock 4-day (w/o socials): $145 Warpstock Thursday only (w/o social) $60 Warpstock Friday only (w/o social) $60 Warpstock Weekend (w/o social) $120 You can register online at our Web Store, http://bamart.com/warpstockinc or download a registration form from the store, or from http://www.warpstock.org Classes are included in the base registration price, although there may be some additional costs associated with some classes to cover documentation, etc. SCHEDULE AVAILABLE Since our last eNewsletter we\'ve been busy confirming presenters and organizing the schedule for Warpstock 2004, and an impressive line-up it is! There are too many items to list here, so have a look on the Warpstock website for items that interest you. See http://www.warpstock.org/index_2004.html for more information about the classes/presentations/tutorials being offered at Warpstock 2004. We thank our presenters for offering such a varied menu for attendees to choose from. A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT ONE OF OUR CLASSES If you are planning to take Doug Clark\'s 1-day class on Building Applications with VisualAge C++, please read carefully the following note from Doug. We want you to get everything you can from this class. The class is oriented toward VAC version 4. However once you are inside the Visual Builder there isn\'t much difference between v 3 and v 4 - most of the differences between v 3 and v 4 are in 1) how the Visual Builder is started, 2) how the dialog boxes look, and 3) how you compile the code, i.e. rather you click on the BUILD button in v 4 or run make from a command prompt in version 3. The class will be structured so that you can bring either compiler. We will be going through sections of the book \"VisualAge for C++ Visual Programmer\'s Handbook\" which is actually written for version 3. I will have hand outs, screen shots, and instructions for the sections of the book that we are covering where there are differences between v 3 and v 4. So students using v 4 MIGHT be able to get by without purchasing the book - although I HIGHLY recommend getting the book. (The book is available from IBM for approx $50, and apparently it is also available from Amazon as a used book for considerably less.) While this is not a course on C++ programming, the first 1 to 1 1/2 hours will be spent on C++ basics - enough for a C programmer with minimal C++ experience to be functional in the Visual Builder. We will also use that first 1 to 1 1/2 hours to familarize students with how the v 4 IDE and compiler works. RESERVE NOW! Warpstock 2004 has reserved a block of rooms at the Sheraton Denver Tech Center Hotel at $79 per night, until September 30th. After that date, you can expect to pay the regular rate of $179 per night, because the hotel expects to be fully booked during the Warpstock dates, October 21-24. More information: http://www.warpstock.org/event_info/2004/location.html and there\'s a direct link on that page if you want to make a reservation. You can also call toll-free, 1-800-325-3535, but be sure to ask for the special Warpstock rate. FLYING INTO DENVER From Air Canada to US Airways, you have plenty of choices (19 international and US carriers) to reach Denver International Airport.
