RexxMail -- new management? (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Marcus de Geus" < marcusDESPAM@DESPAMdegeus.com >
[RexxMail is an object-oriented WPS e-mail client, written in REXX, which uses the standard WPS user interface. It features an extensive range of functions and options with full command-line access.]
Guys, I am sorry to have to announce that I shall be ceasing development of my OS/2-eCS programs, including RexxMail. After a dozen years of stalwart service, the time has come for my OS/2-eCS work environment to make way for a next generation operating system. Having played with an iBook for the last couple of months, I have decided that the Apple platform now offers a viable alternative to the WPS, for my purposes at least. I shall therefore be making the transition from OS/2-eCS to the Apple platform sometime in the future. However, since it will probably take me some time to migrate all my stuff, I may be using my present work platform for a while yet. So, for those of you using RexxMail or any of my other REXX apps, the message is:
DON"T PANIC! Sounds familiar, eh? Seriously though, there is no reason to lose your cool. I will still be offering support for some time to come, and your questions will still be answered, or at least receive a reply.
As soon as I can find the time, I intend to wrap up my RexxMail code and development environment into a ZIP archive for someone else to take over.
The RexxMail code consists of (a lot of) plain text files containing the component REXX routines/procedures for the RexxMail program, the REXX code for the installation program, the plain text sources for the Reference Guide and Tutorial, and HTML web site templates. There is also a full set of icons and related graphics files as well as some external binaries. The development environment includes REXX programs for updating, checking and "compiling" the main program and installation program code into single CMD files, for updating and compiling the Reference Guide and Tutorial INF documentation files, and for creating a ZIPped distribution file as well as the HTTP code for an updated set of RexxMail web pages. All the REXX code is fully documented (line by line) and designed to be easy to read, so anyone with a modicum of REXX knowledge should be able to get things up and running in a minimum of time. Instructions will be included.
If anyone would like to volunteer for the job, please apply to me at my normal @ddress, see below. If I receive no response to this call for new management, I will post the ZIP archive to Hobbes so anybody interested can download it for their own use.
Before then I hope to release a final (by me, anyway) version of RexxMail with a few bug fixes that should see RexxMail users through until someone else picks up where I left off -- or not, as the case may be.
The relevant announcements will be posted through this channel, as always.
I would like to thank all of you who took the time to download and try my programs, and perhaps even use them on a regular basis, and in particular those of you who went to the trouble of sending me bug reports and requests for features, even words of thanks and praise. It"s been great fun! Last but not least, thanks to the efforts of the OS/2 and eCS development community, I will always be able to boast that in my twenty years of working on PCs I never used a Microsoft Windows system! Best regards, Marcus de Geus -- marcusDESPAM@DESPAMdegeus.com http://www.degeus.com

djprint 0.29 (from http://www.os2news.com)
This program is intended to print program listings on HP DeskJet or LazerJet printers. It should work with any HP printer that supports PCL 5. It sets the printer to print 16.5 characters per inch and sends a reset to the printer when it is finished.
I think that I have found most of the bugs and added most of the options that people have suggested.
The /R option sends a reset to the printer before printing The /F option causes the output to be sent to the file testprn The /Hxx option starts the printing with line xx The /Txx option ends the printing with line xx The /N option stops the printing of line numbers The /S option puts the printer in 8 lpi mode - 77 lines per page The /L option puts the printer in landscape mode - 155 char per line The /PA option sets the paper size to A4 (210x297 mm) The /PL option sets the paper size to legal (8x14 in) The /W option adds a name or comment to the header on page 1 for example: /w"Don Hawkinson" or /W"windows IS a virus!" The /B option goes to a new page afer a user specified string is found for example: /b"page break" or /W"new page" The /W and /B options only require the quotes if the text includes a space.

djprint 0.23 - now with landscape mode printing (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Don Hawkinson" < dwhawkdDESPAM@DESPAMintcon.net >
djprint version 0.23
This program is intended to print program listings on HP DeskJet or LazerJet printers. It should work with any HP printer that supports PCL 5. It sets the printer to print 16.5 characters per inch and sends a reset to the printer when it is finished.
The program prints a header at the top of each page and defaults to printing line numbers for each source line. The program does line wrap of lines over 119 characters and can do multiple wraps if the source line is very long. If the source line is wrapped, the line number is not incremented. If line 10 is wrapped three times, there will be three lines labeled 0010.
Options:
The /R option sends a reset to the printer before printing"); The /F option causes the output to be sent to the file testprn The /Hxx option starts the printing with line xx "); The /Txx option ends the printing with line xx "); The /N option stops the printing of line numbers"); The /S option puts the printer in 8 lpi mode - 77 lines per page The /L option puts the printer in landscape mode - 155 char per line The /F option sends the output to a file called testprn in the current directory. This allows the user to see what would be sent to the printer without using ink or paper.
Please let me know if this program works with your HP printer and the model number of your printer. If you have suggestions for program options, send them too.
I will be making frequent changes to the program and will not always make an announcement that a new version is available.

The GIMP 2.2.8 for OS/2 (from http://www.os2news.com)
I saw this yesterday in gmane.comp.video.gimp.user over on the gmane newsserver. I can"t see that Michael posts in comp.os.os2... anymore (if ever.) coo* has lost a lot of good participants -- probably due to the low signal to pissing-contests ratio now found here.
|From: Michael Schumacher |Newsgroups: gmane.comp.video.gimp.devel,gmane.comp.video.gimp.user |Subject: The GIMP 2.2.8 for OS/2 | |Some of you might still remember - or maybe even use - the |operating system of the future that was supposed to free the world |from such things as DOS or Microsoft Windows 3.x. | |Despite being a stable and technologically advanced platform, it |didn"t succeed - partly because of its equally advanced hardware |requirements (8 megs of RAM was much in those days), partly |because one of its creators turned against it. | |Today, it"s user base is mainly loclizced in certain parts of the |finance and touristic commerces, and only a few boxes remained |with individuals. And with IBM having announced "End of support" |for 2006, the number of OS/2 systems will most likely go down even |further. | |In this tragical situation, it is a good thing that some |individuals keep up the spirit of Free Software and provide |current applications for a platform that is now considered |"exotic" at best. For a long time, GIMP 1.2.2 was the latest |version of GIMP available for OS/2. | |Now, in once amazing quantum leap, this has changed - the current |stable version of GIMP for OS/2 is 2.2.8 - yes, like the current |stable version on the other platforms. | |Prebuilt binaries are available from |http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=gimp&pushbutton=Search | |There are also the libs that are required (GTK+, Glib etc...) and |a XFree86 package. Kudos to Frank Geissler and Ralph Hannes, for |preparing the builds and posting to a german OS/2 newsgroup |respecively, where the article caught my eye. | |Michael

20050811 kernels on testcase (from http://www.os2news.com)
Scott G. posted the following on comp.os.os2.bugs: These replace all previous kernels -- especially 0808, which introduced a "small" regression. :-(
These kernels are usable on all CPUs > 386 (except 486sx which requires the W4 kernel), since I left in all CPU errata workarounds for the P-Pro CPUs.
[Moderator note: As always these are not officially supported by IBM unless they tell you to use them.
Download from < ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com/ps/fromibm/os2/ > **** Please send any followup to comp.os.os2.bugs on usenet. **** Also note that files are only on IBM"s testcase for 2-3 days, so if you want to try these get them now. Make certain you back up any files replaced and don"t try these on a production system. Read any readme file before applying any changes. If your system is working well, and you have no problems addressed by these updates, do yourself a favour and don"t mess with this. You have been warned.
The UNI and SMP files are for WSeB/ACP/eCS Pro (SMP kernel) and the W4 files are for post FP15/MCP versions, including eComStation. Only use the SMP kernel on a machine with more then one CPU.]
From the readme file:
200507808 14.104a - fixed problem in 14.104 (only) that caused (at least) some VDM applications (such as COPY) to fail.

This kernel package actually contains a build from 20050708. Scott has just re-released it today with the correct readme file, which was left out when released 08/08/2005.
From the readme file:
200507808 14.104 Basically, a re-build of the above from an "official" build machine. *This build is safe for Pentium Pros. Note: 486SX CPUs are (and have always been) safe ONLY on the W4 kernel.

Tame + USB Sane Warpin Package (from http://www.os2news.com)
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Paul Smedley < paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info >
Hi All, I"ve just created a Warpin installation package for the Tame 1.00 executables, plus latest USB Sane, latest faxview, latest nconvert & usb drivers.
This should help solve some of the confusion some people have had getting Tame + USB Sane to work.
The installation package should automatically update any old versions of usbresmg.sys & remove any copies of usbscan.sys that can prove problematic. It will also update SANE_CONFIG_DIR to point to the tame\conf directory.
I"d appreciate any feedback.
Warpin file can be downloaded from http://smedley.info/sane.html Cheers, Paul.
