CoPlot (from Isaac Leung)
CoPlot is a commerical package, similar to SigmaPlot or perhaps Xact. It is written in Java, but is very fast (very nice on a PII-300 laptop even). It is cheaper than either SigmaPlot or Xact.
<http://www.coplot.com>

A free trial is available, and although OS/2 isn't officially supported, OS/2 startup .CMD files are available in the package. (They mostly work, with only very minor modification).

If you like to see OS/2 officially supported, they encourage you to contact them:

DragText v3.7 (from Rich Walsh)
Do you ever find drag and drop to be clumsy and inconvenient?
Do you ever wonder if the OS/2 UI is still capable of innovation?
Do you ever wish for something to show off to the Mac & Win crowd?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you'll want to try the new release of DragText. v3.7 redefines the ergonomics of d&d with OverDrag, the most comprehensive set of while-you-drag features found on any platform.

Now, whenever you use DT or the WPS to drag text or objects, you can click a button or press a key to:
  • open folders
  • locate objects
  • scroll windows
  • minimize & restore
  • switch virtual desktops
  • and more...

After the drag is over, DragText will even clean up after itself.

Of course, DragText continues to offer all its other features:
  • drag & drop text, file, and URL handling
  • unparalleled WPS-integration features
  • DTProgram, a versatile program object replacement
To download DragText v3.7, point your browser at: This location

New v2.12 (20/10/2002)

    • DHCP Client Monitor gets added when DHCP is enabled (WPS)

  • Corrected bug with ASPI support
  • Options of CDROM and ASPI support are now respected
  • Added sample configuration file for adding EMX runtime (bootAble.emxrt, contributed by Christoph Brendes)

WWMastermind 2D v.1.01 (from Stefan Wesarg)
The version 1.01 of the Mastermind game WWMastermind 2D has been published. The program is freeware. WWMastermind 2D is based on the classic idea of finding a combination of colors. In this case the colors are distributed in a plane (2 dimensional) rather than in a line (1 dimensional). Changes in the version 1.01 since the last version 1.0:
  • new 'Result' dialog which is always shown at the end of a finished (or canceled) game
  • bugfix: last possible try could not be evaluated -> error message that all sticks must be set (Thanks to Mark A. for reporting this bug!)
  • bugfix: evaluation of 'Line OK' was sometimes false for arrangement 'Square 2 - big'
Currently, the program is available only in English language.

vCOMPAT v0.31b (from Martin Kiewitz)
New vCOMPAT is out for public download.
Please note that this version contains MUCH new code and is BETA, so be careful.

vCOMPAT is a special VDD, that will fix some issues in VDMs to further enhance compatibility. It contains plenty of fixes and some of them are user-controlable via Properties.

Additions for 0.31b:
- Magical VM Patcher hooks moved from VDM to VDD-space
- DPMI Anti-CLI code included
- DPMI Workarounds for application "bugs" (e.g. Samn Max and Alien Legacy)
- Magical VM Patcher also removes DPMI Turbo Pascal CRT Unit bug (Error 200)

This means DooM, Samn Max and many many other DPMI games are now running unpatched in VDMs.

cu, Kiewitz

P.S.: Alien Legacy is one of the games that require a change in the OS/2 / eCS kernel. I hope that the fix will get available somewhere in November.

JPhotoBrush 2.0.2 (from Klaus Staedtler)
JPhotoBrush is an Image Editing and Enhancement Application/Tool written in Java 1.3 making extensive use of Swings and Java2D. Of course I won't say it competes with Adobe PhotoShop, Ulead's PhotoImpact, but its not one of those run-of-the-mill image editing tools. The cool thing about it is that it can run in any java supported platforms. It has innumerable features, has friendly user interface and has been succesfully tested in Windows 9x/Nt/2000/ME, Solaris, Linux, IRIX, and Mac OS/2. And version 2.0 has the plugin concepts where you can add you own or a third party plugin !!. Plus it is a freeware (for non-commercial use). However if anyone would like to support further development and enhancement, they are most welcome to make their contribution financially and technically.
Fixes to some known bugs:
  • JPEG image saving problem fixed
  • Line drawing problem when image is scrolled

Java Movie Database 1.0 (from Juergen Ulbts)
We released a new version of the Java Movie Database on Wednesday 2002-10-09. This is now the final 1.0 release (no beta), but newer versions are planned/currently worked on.
The Java Movie Database (JMDB) is a Java program which stores the data from the IMDb Text files (Internet Movie Database) in several MySQL Tables. After you have imported the data, you can search for actors, movies, producers and actors. About the movies and people some details are shown. For more details look at the JMDB-Homepage! Short Changelist(more detailed one at Project Homepage):
  • added RESUME: You can cancel the import and resume at the same file again/this is very nice if the runtime crashes
  • The setup window that pops up the first time you start JMDB now closes correctly when pressing "Save".
  • Testing the database connection works also from the setup window that pops up when you start JMDB the first time.
  • default database password is now 'root'
  • running time for each task in the console (start as debug) while the database conversion runs
  • Index for database tables are created at the end of the conversion.
  • added latest MySQL AB database driver (2.0.14)
  • updated installation for OS/2, Windows, Linux
  • updated readme (new links, installation, drivers,...)

One note:We still have sometimes JVM crashes while importing the files, so we would like to hear some feedback from the users so we can finally find and fix it.
You should use for the first couple of times the Debug Version (JMDB-JavaDebug - startos2debug.cmd), because the console is visable, so you can see what's happening.
You should also disable "close window on exit" in the Icon properties.
If the JVM crashes while converting you can see it at the console.
You may wonder what's going on, if nothing happens.

StHWMon/StHealth (from Stefan Milcke)
I've release a new build of my StHWMon/StHealth package. StHWMon/StHealth is a hardware monitoring tool with GUI and REXX support for eCS and OS/2. It shows information about various sensors on your motherboard including fan speeds, temperatures and voltages. You can set up "events" for every input sensor enabling system shutdown/reboot, cool down your CPU (with VIA chipsets). If you've installed viaapm.sys (part of the 8233Cool package) it uses this driver to enable/disable CPU throttling dynamically to cool down your CPU. The package also includes a widget for XWorkplace.

WSformat 0.81 (from Martin Vieregg)
The first public WSformat version 0.81 is finished and ready for download. 11 years after publishing the last Wordstar for DOS, I can offer a substitute (or a successor?) Simply try it and decide.
The last month, I had a lot of hard work. I strongly hope that WSformat does not only fit my own purpose! Your comments and bug reports are strongly recommended.
WSformat is a formatting and printing program for Wordstar (DOS) files. WSedit and WSformat together are a full-featured word processing suite, running under current operating systems, but based on the Wordstar DOS philosophy ('what you see is what you want' and not 'what you see is what you get'). Nevertheless, WSformat does have a provision for document preview.
Wordstar Compatiblity: WSformat accepts all Wordstar (DOS) files, but does not support all Wordstar DOS functions, i.e., those which were added after Wordstar Version 4. Instead, some extended functions (such as generating tables of contents or handling footnotes) are implemented in a WSformat-specific way. Basic Wordstar 5-7 'symmetrical sequences' are recognized (indentions, for example). WSformat is Shareware and WSedit is Freeware. WSformat supports hyphenation, the creation of end notes and footnotes, generation of tables of contents and indexes, line drawing, embedding graphics in text and allows conditional statements. In contrast to the older versions of DOS Wordstar, document preview and printing use functions provided by the Windows (or OS/2) operating systems. This means you have access to the printers and type fonts which are installed on the
operating system.
The WSformat command syntax is very similar to that of Hypermake. From a WS file, Hypermake will generate an equivalent file in RTF, Winhelp, HTML, IBM Help or Microsoft HTML-Help format. WSformat requires Windows 98, Windows NT 4, OS/2 Warp 3 or later.
