| The VOICE Newsletter is committed to providing the community of OS/2 and eComStation users with useful, accurate, and current information. To do so it relies on contributions from members of the community it is serving. Please consider contributing yourself by submitting an article. Our guidelines provide extensive information about article content and presentation. This includes potential topics, structure and formatting, and detailed instructions for unexperienced authors regarding several types of articles as well. The guidelines are available at: http://www.os2voice.org/newsletter_submission.html Also available is an author package that includes template files and a tutorial with step-by-step instructions for writing articles with the NVU editor: http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/author_package_en.zip The deadline for the July issue is June 15th, 2006. | The april was dedicated to debugging of existing software and preparation of new products.
Software updates: Updated software: * Personal cards manager, several internal betas * Sequence of eSchemes updates for eComStation 2.0 beta 2 (http://ecomstation.com, improving reliability, NLS support); Now separating modules to accelerate debugging; * MMImage Pack (dosenz of image I/O procs), internal beta * T&V HappyPlayer, fixes for fullscreen TV support (http://ecomstation.ru/happyplayer) * LAN Tools, internal beta * ACPI temperature monitor (http://ecomstation.ru/acpitools), we should remake it in form of eCenter widget Updated drivers: * JFS.IFS -- researching compatibility with 4OS2. New beta-versions are distributed via eComStation beta-zone (http://betazone.ecomstation.nl/) * Power management driver for eComStation via ACPI, internal beta-versions (searching for investors) * Added support of Realtek RTL8168 network adapter to the driver of Yanagihara Nobuyuki (http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php?action=item&id=832) Updated toolkits and libraries: * ACPI toolkit - new examples which allow you catch ACPI events (requires ACPI.PSD 2.7) * ECOMEDIA library, internal beta-version; collection of high-level functions which simplify usage of multimedia I/O procedures for reading and writing of image files. Miscellaneous news: eCo Software strategy * The strategy of eCo Software states that we should create more WPS applications to attract new users and students. To stimulate the process, we are starting publication of tutorial \"Object-Oriented Programming in eComStation, Part 1: Introduction\" (http://ru.ecomstation.ru/showarticle.php?id=144, russian text) Participation in Developers Workshop 2006 (http://en.ecomstation.ru/conferences.php) -- eCo Software developers prepared and presented three reports: * Library for easy multilanguage support (we compared existing meanings and suggested methods how to improve things) * How to join eComStation development (You can join ACPI and Power management projects, we need better support of USB devices, pay attention to FM-tuners if going to create multimedia software, let\'s create syncronization modules of mobile devices with the database of Personal Cards Manager) * Using eComStation infrastructure for development of new applications (We must create more WPS applications; We must use MMOS2 I/O procedures to shorten the life cycle of multimedia software development) * WiZard constructed logo for Developers Workshop 2006 (http://ecomstation.ru/pic/articles/dw2006/workshop_2006_new_001b.png) * Presentations are published at netlabs.org ftp (ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/events/DWS2006/presentations) Financial 2005 year is completed * the previous financial year is finished. Taxes was paid in all countries where our developers are working. * eCo Software is planning continue investments into futher development of existing drivers and applications (auxiliary applications may be create if needed) * We should pay special attention to work of our support service and delivery service.
