Quatech's SPP-100 provides an IEEE-1284 parallel port. It can be used in any laptop or notebook computer with a Type II PCMCIA drive or in a desktop computer equipped with a compatible PCMCIA drive.
The SPP-100 parallel PCMCIA card fully supports the IEEE 1284 standard for high speed EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port) communication. As well as EPP mode, the SPP-100 can also function in standard unidirectional parallel port mode, and in bidirectional parallel port
mode. The built-in parallel port on many portable computers cannot function in EPP mode, and the SPP-100 is an ideal choice in these situations when a high speed parallel interface is required.
The SPP-100 will be assigned to the lowest LPT port available by default. However, users may select the particular LPT port to which the SPP-100 is assigned. Base address and interrupt level are also selectable. In addition, the SPP-100 may be configured as a nonstandard device at any I/O base address and IRQ level without being assigned to a LPT port. Standard resources for the SPP-100 are I/O base address 278h and IRQ5 and I/O
base address 378h and IRQ7. Any other resource allocation constitutes nonstandard addressing.
All necessary software is included to install and configure the SPP-100 for use with OS/2. The card includes an interface cable which provides a standard 25-pin female connector output.
