FOSS for OS/2: Keeping the flame alive (von NN)
After a decade of neglect and increasingly reluctant support from IBM, the manufacturer, the OS/2 community persists. Where users of GNU/Linux or FreeBSD have turned to free and open source software (FOSS) for political and philosophical freedom and software quality, the surviving OS/2 community has been turning to FOSS as a means of defending members\' right to use the operating system of their choice.

The result is a small but surprisingly diverse collection of projects that, to a GNU/Linux user, is a mixture of the familiar and exotic.

SCOUG February 2006 Meeting (von NN)
A Plethora of Demos and Programming Saturday, February 18th 9:30 AM - 1 PM

There are presentations like

- Lynn Maxon has decided it would a worthy venture to port VIM using the OpenWatcom development tools. This month he\'s going to show us the results, to date, of this venture. It will be interesting to compare his results with Greg\'s results using the GCC tools. For those of you that missed Greg\'s presentations, VIM is an enhanced version of the classic VI editor, which has been around since the early days of UNIX.

netlabs.org newsletter #1 (von http://www.os2news.com)
Although many OS/2 and eCS users worldwide know the existence of and the concept behind netlabs.org already for years. It still is surprising that a large group of people don\_t know what is going on or where to find things.

That is why some people, close to netlabs.org, decided to gather netlabs.org news and start to distribute that in a bi-weekly electronic newsletter. To share the news and make it easier for everybody to stay updated and always get the latest greatest open source OS/2 and eCS software! This is the first newsletter, so please feel free to react and comment about it (see below). We are still in the phase of setting it up and are open for suggestions. Like we are not sure yet if people can subscribe to it themselves as well.

Netlabs.org relies on your support as well, we hire developers to have better progress on projects. For sure this costs money so any sponsoring is very welcome! You can support netlabs.org via netlabs.org sponsoring units: http://www.mensys.net/NETLABS/ The page states that VAT has to be paid as well, this is not the case for the sponsoring units, netlabs.org gets the full amount you donate! Thanks for your support!
