MyIp 0.2 (von NN)
A TCP/IP utility for querying your \"public\" IP address.

MYIP is a simple TCP/IP utility for querying the current system\'s IP address as seen from the Internet. Works by contacting an \"IP echo\" website that reports the IP address of your computer as the remote server sees it.

This allows you to determine your public IP address even if you are connecting through a firewall or NAT router. MYIP was inspired by Peter Lueersen\'s \"GetMyIP\", but is written in C instead of REXX, and uses a slightly different configuration mechanism. Source code (GPL) is included.

CPMap 0.7 (von NN)
CPMAP is a simple program that can display a complete character map of any OS/2 codepage (even those which are not available for use as system or PM codepages).

I originally wrote this program to help me create the list of codepages (above). However, it also serves as a useful illustration of some of the Unicode APIs.

In some ways, this program is similar to Ken Borgendale\'s ShowCP program, although it evolved quite independently. Unlike ShowCP, CPMAP can display any installed codepage, not just a selected few. (Conversely, though, it lacks both print support and a glyph-details mode).

CPMAP requires use of a Unicode font for character display to work properly. It defaults to using Monotype Sans Duospace WT J, which is available under recent versions of OS/2 (Warp Server for e-business and later).

CPMAP is made available under a BSD-style license; see the documentation for details.

GNU Tar 1.16.1 - updated 20070128 (von NN)
The Tar program provides the ability to create tar archives, as well as various other kinds of manipulation. For example, you can use Tar on previously created archives to extract files, to store additional files, or to update or list files which were already stored.

Initially, tar archives were used to store files conveniently on magnetic tape. The name \"Tar\" comes from this use; it stands for tape archiver. Despite the utility\'s name, Tar can direct its output to available devices, files, or other programs (using pipes), it can even access remote devices or files (as archives).

Additional information about the project, including links to the project development page and file downloads, is available from the GNU software directory:

XSane 0.992 (von NN)
XSane is a powerful graphic front-ends for SANE (scanner ACCESS Now Easy), which requires a functioning libsane.dll (from SANE-1.0.16 or later) and an XServer (e.g. XFree86/OS2 or HOBX11).

This version supports:

* preview scan, preview zoom
* scan and save to pnm, jpeg, png, tiff, ps, pdf and raw file
* batch scan
* handling of all backend options
* helpfiles
* copy mode (printing via ghostscript, see section \"copy mode\")
* ocr output to a textfile using gocr.exe
* works as gimp2-plugin

Last changes:

-added support for color management:
-added tab \"color management\" to setup/preferences
- preview can display ICC/ICM corrected images with 8bits/color and with 16bits/color input bit depth
- viewer can display ICC/ICM corrected images with 8bits/color and with 16bits/color input bit depth
- gamma correction and medium selection is disabled when color management is enabled
- added support for embedded ICC/ICM files for tiff, jpeg, png and gimp plugin

There was still a bug concerning the gimp plugin when xsane has been quit in copy mode and afterwards started as gimp plugin then xsane used the printer paper size in the preview window.

- xsane_save_scaled_image sometimes did not write the last line and produced a tuncated image. this is corrected now
- corrected order of filetypes in xsane_back_gtk_filetype_menu_set_history, now the filetype are not
- mixed any more when the disk icon is pressed
- replaced all \"\\n\" by \"\\r\\n\" in email
- fixed memory bug that caused crash when setup was closed (display_notebook)
- added command line option --xsane-rc / -r to give alternative filename for xsane.rc
- translations: U=updated, U*=partly updated, N=not updated:

GBM 1.51, GBM plugin 1.24 for Lucide RC1 (von Heiko Nitzsche)
GBM plugin 1.24 for Lucide RC1 or higher
----------------------------------------
(freely usable, see license included)

This is a plugin for the Lucide document viewer available for eComStation
that extends Lucide for the support of reading all bitmap formats
supported by GBM.DLL. It requires GBM.DLL 1.35 or higher. GBM 1.51 is
recommended. Do not use GBM 1.41 any longer.

Supported features:
* document info
* loading all formats supported by GBM
* save loaded bitmap if it has only one page
* multipage bitmap viewing support
* load bitmap page on demand
* scaling and rotation

Get package gbmos2plugins_lu124_moz130_bin.zip from Hobbes.
It is also included in the WarpIN installation package (see below).

The above plugin does not work anymore with Lucide Beta 4 because
the plugin API has changed. If you just upgrade your Lucide installation
to RC1, please delete the old lugbm.dll or/and lugbm_b4.dll and install
the new plugin. Users who want to stick with Lucide Beta 4 for the moment
can download a compatible plugin version from http://heikon.home.tlink.de
for a limited time.

For more details please have a look at the change log in the included
documentation or at my GBM homepage (see below).

GBM.DLL 1.51 and GBM command line tools
---------------------------------------
(Public Domain)

The Generalised Bitmap Module (GBM) is a library capable of loading and
saving bitmap files in a variety of popular and less popular bitmap file
formats. Programs may be written to use this code, and thus be able to
access a variety of file formats without actually knowing what format
the pictures are in, or any details about file format itself.

In this version, extended BMP, JPG, PNG, TIF, PBM, PGM, PPM, PNM and XPM
support is additionally included. PNG and TIF support also 16, 32, 48, 64 bpp
colour depths with/without alpha channel. PPM supports also 48 bpp
colour depth. BMP supports also OS/2 RLE24 and Windows 16/32 bpp RGB
and BITFIELDS formats.

It comes with a useful set of command line bitmap manipulation tools.

Get package gbmos2_151_bin.zip from Hobbes.
It is also included in the WarpIN installation package (see below).

Notes for eComStation 1.2/1.2R users:
-------------------------------------
Please read the installation instructions. eCS 1.2/1.2R ships
with an old GBM.DLL (1.12) which prevents loading of the new
GBM.DLL (1.51). Please follow the instructions to use the new
GBM.DLL for all programs as well as for eCS WPS features like
bitmap previews.
If you cannot replace the eCS shipped GBM.DLL, please execute
unlock x:\\os2\\dll\\gbm.dll from a command line. Then override
the old GBM.DLL with the new one. Don\'t forget to reboot afterwards.

newLISP 9.0.15 (von NN)
The newLISP 9.0.15 is released for OS/2 - eCS is compiled with libc061.dll / gcc 335.

newLISP is a LISP-like scripting language for doing things you typically do with scripting languages:

* CGI programming,
* system administration,
* text processing,
* gluing other programs together, etc.

newLISP is a scripting LISP for people who are fascinated by LISP\'s beauty and power of expression, but who need it stripped down to easy-to-learn essentials. newLISP is small on resources like disk space and memory but has a deep, practical API.

For more information on newLISP see teh URL below. There you can also find the link towards the binary for OS/2.

PDFMergeNX Version 2.0. beta 3 (von NN)
PDFMergeNX is the successor to PDFMerge/2 and as such, it is an application to manipulate PDF files in various ways. Its capabilities go far beyond those of PDFMerge/2. PDFMergeNX is a simple tool for doing everyday things with PDF documents and PostScript files.

Currently it can be used to

* Merge PDF/PS[/TIF/FAX/JPEG/many other image formats] files
* Split PDF/PS files into single pages
* Print PDF/PS files
* View PDF/PS files (builtin Mini-PDF/PS-Viewer)
* Compare (text) content of 2 PDF/PS files (using Araxis PMDiff)
* Extract PS files from PDF files
* Flip pages upside down
* Add bookmarks (currently it cannot extract already present bookmarks)
* Add and update PDF metadata such as title, subject, author, keywords
* Rearrange pages
* Load/save listfiles to add sets of PDF/PS files at once
* more features to be added.

PDFMergeNX already has

* various options (page alignment, import bookmark headings etc.)
* national language support (English default, German and Dutch included)
* a simple builtin distiller (based on GhostScript, cannot do bookmarks)
* support for ePDF as distiller (required if bookmarks should be created, the output should be encrypted, a background watermark should be applied).

PDFMergeNX provides a graphical user interface (Screenshot) and acts as glue between GhostScript, XPDF 3.01.pl1 package and ePDF (these all must be installed as a prerequisite).

PDFMergeNX is still under heavy development, especially the documentation is not complete yet and therefore feedback of all kinds is appreciated. New features will be introduced after the release of version 2.0.

bzip2 1.0.4 - updated 20070120 (von NN)
Important points why to use this utility:

Why would I want to use it?

* Because it compresses well. So it packs more stuff into your overfull disk drives, distribution CDs, backup tapes, Zip disks, etc. And/or it reduces your phone bills, customer download times, long distance network traffic, etc. It\'s not the world\'s fastest compressor, but it\'s still fast enough to be very useful.

* Because it\'s open-source (BSD-style license), and, as far as I know, patent-free. (To the best of my knowledge. I can\'t afford to do a full patent search, so I can\'t guarantee this. Caveat emptor). So you can use it for whatever you like. Naturally, the source code is part of the distribution.

* Because it supports (limited) recovery from media errors. If you are trying to restore compressed data from a backup tape or disk, and that data contains some errors, bzip2 may still be able to decompress those parts of the file which are undamaged.

* Because you already know how to use it. bzip2\'s command line flags are similar to those of GNU Gzip, so if you know how to use gzip, you know how to use bzip2.

* Because it\'s very portable. It should run on any 32 or 64-bit machine with an ANSI C compiler. The distribution should compile unmodified on Unix and Win32 systems. Earlier versions have been ported with little difficulty to a large number of weird and wonderful systems.

* Because (by now, late 2006) everybody else uses it too.

Scribus 1.3.3.7 (von NN)
Scribus is a cross-platform open source page layout application with a focus on high quality commercial grade PDF and postscript export.

Originally developed on Linux, Scribus now runs natively on MacOSX, OS/2, many forms of Unix and Windows 2000/XP. Underneath the modern and user friendly interface, Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as:

* CMYK color
* spot colors
* separations
* ICC color management
* versatile PDF creation

Scribus was the first page layout application on the planet to directly support PDF/X-3 output, a rigorous ISO standard. Scribus did so by almost a year.

The Scribus Team is made up of a diverse group of developers with significant experience in pre-press and newspaper publishing. Commercial
support for Scribus is available for companies and institutions for implementation, training and migration.

From the official announcement:

The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of Scribus 1.3.3.7. This release is purely a further bug fix release to the recently released
1.3.3.6.

This release adds more translation updates, some bugs were found and fixed, many improvements to the SVG importer. A new splash screen and
other artwork were contributed by Kevin Young.

One of two major additions to this release is the porting of Scribus to OS/2 by Paul Smedley. This port is lightly tested and there are some known issues noted in the readme for OS/2, along with notes on installation. No major code changes were required and in testing it has been fairly stable.

As we announced previously, there will be no more development or bug fixes to 1.2.x series. We now recommend all distributions package only Scribus 1.3.3.x.

The Scribus Team would also like to thank - Anduin.net/Øverby Consulting and Cardia AS for their continued hosting of all of the Scribus websites.

The Scribus Team would also like to thank the many end users, translators, testers and contributors who helped us with this release.

Martin\'s Server Suit (MSS) update (von NN)
Martin\'s Server Suit which currently consist of Yet Another FTP Server and Snug HTTP server.

Yet Another FTP Server will be called YAFS from now on. Although YAFS and Snug HTTP server can be used independent of each other, they function very well together to run and maintain a small web site. MSS is a way of distribute them both in a single package.

MSS and its components was designed to run on old operating system as well as on more recent releases. MSS can bring your old hardware and software back to life again!

Although YAFS and Snug HTTP server can be used independent of each other, they function very well together to run and maintain a small web site. MSS is a way of distribute them both in a single package. MSS and its components was designed to run on old operating system as well as on more recent releases.

The components of MSS ay not be the easiest to setup. There\'s a reason for that. A server should not be too easy to setup for common people. It should take some skill to setup a server. Otherwise, the rest of the system is probably already compromised and the security overlooked, which is
not a good thing on a server machine. With this said, MSS is easy to setup but it is not the intention to make it the easiest server suite to setup.

GCC Build environment - Update 20070105 (von NN)
Paul\'s build environment - at 5th January, 2007

I often get asked about how my build environment is structured, so here it is - in a single zip file. I started to think about how to set it up from scratch, but it got too hard. I started with the mozilla build environment, and hacked away over time... to end up with a \'thing\' that works pretty nicely for a lot of software.

Includes: latest Qt SVN build from Netlabs, Perl 5.8.8 built with libc, GCC 3.3.5 and libc 0.6.1, a whole sh*tload of precompiled libraries and include files in /extras/include and /extras/lib respectively.

Instructions:

* I have this all setup on u: drive. It should be possible to move it to another drive, at the very least - gcc335.cmd would need to be modified, and probably also many of the package config files in \\extras\\lib\\pkgconfig, and also some of the

*config files in \\extras\\bin

* I keep all my installed libraries in \\extras - this was I can wipe out \\usr when a new version of GCC comes out.

* Unzip to root directory - recommended u: drive

* Change to \\extras\\lib and run makeomflibs

* Change to \\usr\\lib and run makeomflibs

* Create an icon on the WPS, Path and Filename = *, Parameters = /ku:\\gcc335.cmd, working directory = u:\\

* launch icon, start building :) Many things will compile with a simple ash ./configure, make

Preview of ISC DHCP 3.05 (von NN)
ISC\'s Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Distribution provides a freely redistributable reference implementation of all aspects of DHCP, through a
suite of DHCP tools:

* a DHCP server
* a DHCP client
* a DHCP relay agent

These tools all use a modular API which is designed to be sufficiently general that it can easily be made to work on POSIX-compliant operating
systems and also non-POSIX systems like Windows NT and MacOS.

The DHCP server, client and relay agent are provided both as reference implementations of the protocol and as working, fully-featured sample
implementations.

Both the client and the server provide functionality that, while not strictly required by the protocol, is very useful in practice. The DHCP server also makes allowances for non-compliant clients which one might still like to support.

Current notes on the OS/2 build:

* It is built with Innotek GCC 3.3.5 CSD1 and requires the libc061 runtime dll which is available from

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.1-csd1.zip

**This has only had very limited testing so all feedback to paulDESPAM [ ] @DESPAMsmedley POINT info is appreciated** (delete additional letters and so on)

To use the client, start dhclient.exe with parameters like the following:

ifconfig lan0 10.1.1.1 netmask 8.0.0.0
ifconfig lan0 alias 10.1.1.1 netmask 8.0.0.0
@dhclient -sf dhconf.cmd -e ETC=C:\\MPTN\\ETC lan0

dhconf.cmd is a rexx script that takes the parameters picked up by dhclient.exe and uses them to set the IP address and default routes.

Note that none of the tools have (yet) been educated to look in %etc% for configuration files, so dhcpd.exe needs to be expicitly told where its
configuration files are, ie:

dhcpd.exe -f -d -cf dhcpd.conf -lf lease.f lan1

dhcpd currently gives some warnings about a lease file rename failing - these are under investigation.

Many thanks to Crazybonz for doing the initial port of DHCP v3.0.1, and to Yoda for encouraging me to do the dhcpd port and for testing!

Cheers, Paul Smedley

PIN.EXE and PPDENC.EXE update (von NN)
Readme for pinfix.zip:

* creator : Bart van Leeuwen
* date : 2006-12-31
* status : Test fix not public

This file contains 2 updated utilities:

* PIN.EXE:

-1 It uses larger internal buffers ( again ) to support large PPD files
-2 It now support up to 100 entries in UI Blocks ( instead of 30 )
-3 It will ignore \'empty\' resolution settings e.g. *Resolution None/Automatic: \"\"

Fixes:

-1: CUPS comes with huge PPD files compared to the IBM supplied ones
-2: Newer printers support a enourmous range of paper formats, especialy foto printers
-3: This caused the devide by zero error when having a default resolution of None

* PPDENC.EXE:

-1: Now supports UTF-8 ( only the first 255 characters of th charset ) this is sufficient for most PPD\'s supplied by CUPS.

support:

This is a try at your own risk fix, please post any results at:

GIMPS Mersenne Prime Search Client 24.14 (3. 2.06) (von NN)
A Mersenne prime is a prime number of the form 2P-1. There are 41 known Mersenne primes. The first few values of P which yield a Mersenne
prime are 2, 3, 5, 7, 13 (the corresponding primes are 3, 7, 31, 127, 8191).

\" The Mersenne Prime Search uses the unused CPU cycles to search for more Mersenne Prime numbers. So far they have found 3 more beyond
the original 41. There is a prize of $100,000 to the group that finds a ten million digit prime number. More on how the prize would be divided can be found at:

UniPage 0.1 (von NN)
UniPage merges multi-component HTML documents in one single file

Multiple components of HTML documents (i.e. scripts, CSSs, and images are merged into one file, either as text (scripts and CSSs) or as base64 encoded strings (images).

Same idea (and name!) as

http://www.unipage.org/

only way more cool, i.e.: multiplatform, small size, etc.

Will work both from the command line or in CGI mode, so you can use it as a bridge (remote converting tool) from your own web server.
