Would you like Warpstock 2002 to be in your home town? Do you think you and a few friends might be able to host a Warpstock? It's not as hard as you think.
But you need to hurry. June 1st is the cut-off date for the Warpstock 2002 "Intent To Bid". What's that? It's simply a quick email indicating that you're interested in hosting Warpstock 2002. All you need to specify in the email is:

• The name of your city
• The names of the people in your group (we recommend at least four)
• Any other information you happen to have, like possible locations for the event.

And that's it! If you submit this email by June 1st, you'll have all summer to work on the actual bid. So call a few of your fellow OS/2 users and talk about it. Then send an email to bids@warpstock.org with the information.
Hurry - you only have a week left! We've already received some bid intents, but we would like more. The Board of Directors will be more than happy to assist you in your bid application, so you have nothing to lose!

Please understand that the text used to promote the SCOUG meeting was prepared well in advance. Now, what does it mean? Well, it was intended to mean that we believe the SCOUG meeting will see the GA level code, the release candidate.
As Duane already pointed out, there is still a manufacturing process and distribution to endure. So there isn't much point in sitting out on the porch waiting for the postman, yet.
We are not rushing. We are being very deliberate. But, as Lou Gerstner used to say, we are acting with a sense of urgency. So, there is the balancing act of trying to be responsive, not wearing out anyone's patience, and not screwing when we are *this* close to having what we want to release.
I think it's fair to count the SCOUG meeting as part of the GA launch, because that's a pretty vague statement. It does not mean that the product is in distribution, however. But RSN.

This year, as with the past four years, hundreds of OS/2 users from around the world will gather in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to talk about their favorite operating system. And every year, these hundreds of hungry minds cry out for more presentations.
The Warpstock 2001 Event Team and the Board of Directors of Warpstock, Inc. hereby formally puts out a call to adept OS/2 users, far and wide, to submit their proposals for presentations to be given at Warpstock 2001. If you have a specific knowledge in some of the below categories and you wish to share that in support of the OS/2 community, now is the time to step forward!
Presentations on any OS/2-related topic are more than welcome, regardless of the technical level. Topic categories include, but are not limited to, programming (Java, PM, device drivers, ...), software demonstrations (how-to's, tips and tricks), internet, networking, e-business and anything else of interest to OS/2 users. And remember, this year's conference is three days long, so be prepared to give your presentation more than once, if it's very popular.

To ensure that the Warpstock staff have enough time to prepare, interested speakers should submit a title and abstract by September 1, 2001. Papers, if applicable, should be submitted by September 15, 2001.

I won't be able to respond to everyone but I just want to say thank you very, very much for your enthusiastic responses. Its heartening to see so much interest in this idea which is actually more than an idea because parts of it are already complete. Some of the biggest questions that was asked by you was:

1. What is the maximum size audio file that can be handled? Well the way that I'm planning to implement this will allow for audio files as large as your hard drive can hold!!!!
2. Will I be able to convert these audio files to MP3 automatically? Well I hadn't thought about doing that right away as there are other applications that handle the job adequately. But if the demand is overwhelming I'll put it on my list.
3. Will it operate similar to CoolEdit? Well that is my plan. CoolEdit is a really great application and I'd like to use some of its
   concepts with AudioStation.

What I'm going to do is open up a new e-group on Yahoo's (formerly EGroup's) site so that anyone who is interested can join in and share in the creation of this tool. I'll be posting my project plan for everyone to see, criticize and maybe even commend. That way everyone knows where the product is going and when they can expect to see a release. How does that sound to you?

P.S. Once again I apologize for not being able to respond to everyone's emails individually but each one is really appreciated.

I am considering writing an audio playback/recording and sequencing program. I'm proposing the following features:

1. Audio playback with streaming from hard drive to handle large audio files
2. Simultaneous playback of audio clips
3. Audio recording with streaming for direct-to-hard-disk recording
4. Full audio editing with graphical representation of the audioform (Cut,copy, paste etc....)
5. Audio effects modules with the ability to have other developers write >custom plug-ins
6. Audio sequencing: This would allow a user to take various audio samples and sequence them with the ability to save the sequences.
7. Realtime looping and reversing of audio clips

All of these capabilities are available in MIDI Station Sequencer but as that program requires your soundcard drivers to support RTMIDI or use of the MPU401 driver it has become apparent that not many people are able to use that program. :>( All this is is a proposition. If there is no interest in this kind of program I won't waste my time but if there is enough interest generated I will spend the time on it. I see the end result of this program being what the next generation of a Ceres SoundStudio might have been. Any interest out there? I await your feedback.
