OS2World.com is back Correction (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

[Moderator note: Somehow the original post contained a facebook link to the OS/2World site.  The correct link is of course http://http://www.os2world.com/ ]

OS2World.com is back online.

We had set up a fresh version of the CMS to post news and the forum.

We are still working to recover the data of the old crashed server. For the moment we like to request you to register again on this page. The same UserID and password for this page will be used for the forum.

We hope to recover the rest of services like Wiki, Links, Gallery, Bounties and hosted pages little by little on the next months.

Visit: http://www.os2world.com

Note: It seems there was a mistake on an announcement before this one and a URL took from Facebook was sent. Some people asked me if a Facebook account is needed to log on. No it is not needed.

Regards

Martin Iturbide

Sleighload of updates at http://os2ports.smedley.id.au (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

Hi All,

My site has been a little quiet of late. I’ve still been working on some stuff in the background, but my life has been extremely busy with my day job recently, but now I am Christmas vacation I have an opportunity to not only complete some port updates, but also release some stuff that I’ve had sitting around for a while!

In no particular order:

Apache/2 v2.23 port updated - http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php

PHP updated to v5.4.10 - http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php

PHP v5.3.x updated to v5.3.20 - http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php

MySQL updated to v5.1.67 - http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php

- All useful to those maintaining a website under OS/2. PHP and MySQL are pretty much just updates to the latest versions, Apache2 has some important fixes to the exceptq support for child process, which will hopefully help debug some of the issues some users have been having with PHP and Apache2 under OS/2

CUPS v1.4.8 build updated - http://svn.netlabs.org/ecups/wiki/CupsPort

Gutenprint updated to v5.2.9 - http://svn.netlabs.org/ecups/wiki/CupsPort

HPLIP printer driver for HP printers updated to v3.12.10a - http://svn.netlabs.org/ecups/wiki/CupsPort

- All relating to CUPS (Common Unix Printing System). Gutenprint and hplip are version bumps, CUPS has a bunch of fixes over the previously available public builds.

dvdauthor updated to v0.7.1 - http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php

- version update

cmake updated to v2.8.10.2 - http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php

- version update

I wanted to also take this opportunity to thank all users who have sent contributions towards my porting efforts, by either donating via PayPal via the link at http://os2ports.smedley.id.au, or via the Mensys online store at www.mensys.net/os2ports

I’d also like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Cheers,

Paul Smedley

EDM/2 Wiki - December Updates (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

EDM/2 is the premier site to find OS/2 and eComStation software development information.

You can check this news with all the links here:

http://www.edm2.com/index.php/News:2012-December

Personal Comments

----------------------

It is had been like one year since I starting to modifying the EDM/2 Wiki. Nobody asked me to do so, I just started it as a Sunday afternoon activity, since I got very bored on my in-laws house while my son was playing with the other kids.

At that time I thought that the site already has a lot of content and was not possible to add more. I was complete wrong. I added a lot of OS/2 development related articles and several more links to other contents. When I started I thought I was squeezing a rock, but I was amazed to see how much can be squeezed out of it. Now I realize that there is much more that can be added to the EDM/2 wiki and I have several pending articles/books migrations to the wiki.

But I also realized the importance of putting more content under the Creative Commons license of the Wiki. The Creative Commons allows derivative works, and it is opportunity we have to not reinvent the wheel when we try to write something technical about OS/2. Anybody can now grab the content of the wiki and read it, use it and improve it, the credits remains to the authors, but the content now belongs to everyone.

Any help is welcome, no matter if you can only read one article and improve its spelling and display, or if you can migrate content to the wiki, or even if you only have your Sunday’s afternoon to collaborate.

Here are some news about the site.

Non-EDM/2 Republished Articles

-----------------------------------

There are several OS/2 and eComStation programming articles floating around. When the authors authorize to republish their articles under the Creative Commons license, it can be included on the wiki and the most important thing of all, there are clear rules to create derivative works.

The re-published articles on the EDM/2 wiki are:

Open Class Library (OCL) FAQ by Stéphane Charette (November 1997)

OS/2 2.0 Frequently Asked Questions, Programmer’s Edition Version 1.3 by Barry Jaspan (September 6, 1992)

System Monitoring in Multitasking Environments by Dave Wallenberg (June 1996)

Building Dynamic Web Sites by Chris Wenham

Part I (May 2, 1998)

Part II (May 16, 1998)

Part III (August 16, 1998)

Part IV (September 16, 1998)

Part V (February 16, 1999)

EDM/2 Republished Articles

-----------------------------------

Since we are changing to a Wiki format, republishing permission allowing derivative work for the articles has to be requested. There had been good response from part of the Authors that I was able to contact. Several authors (all that I was able to contact) accepted that his articles were republished under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 license to me migrated to wiki site.

The old EDM/2 articles that were re-published are:

An introduction to mSQL by Fernando Lozano (May 1998)

mSQL Revisited by Fernando Lozano (June 1998)

Accessing Databases using Java and JDBC by Fernando Lozano (July 1998)

Java Servlet Programming in OS/2 by Fernando Lozano (August 1998)

Using OS/2 as a Platform for a Web Server by Jeff Hasz (February 1997)

Safe Document Handling by Stephane Bessette (December 1997)

OS/2 v4.0 Notebooks by Stephane Bessette (March 1998)

Books and Tutorials

-----------------------------------

Some tutorials and Books that had been authorized to be republished on the wiki:

The V C++ GUI Framework User Guide by Bruce E. Wampler

Links

-----------------------------------

There is also some non-Creative Commons development related articles/publications that the EDM/2 wiki links to.

This month it had been included the following links.

OS/2 Fonts Frequently Asked Questions (inf) by Cliff Cullum )(October 9, 1995)

New USB host controller drivers: usbhcd187.zip (von http://news.warpevents.eu/)

I have updated the USB host controller drivers
USBUHCD.SYS, USBOHCD.SYS, USBEHCD.SYS, USBD.SYS (and now also: USBRESMG.SYS)
I have now placed these on hobbes.
http://class='extlink'http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/incoming/usbhcd187.zip

They will eventually make it into directory:
/pub/os2/system/drivers/misc

1) USBOHCD: occasionally the HCs would drop dead on boot up (observed on my system). Try this update if you experience the same.

2) USBEHCD: trying to fix the various issues with devices not being redetected etc. Honestly I don’t know if it will fix your problems, just try this if you still have problems with USBEHCD.SYS. It’s possible that I
will need to update USBEHCD.SYS yet again.

3) USBRESMG.SYS: goes together with the updates to USBD.SYS introduced
with usbhcd186.zip.
