Page: OS/2 Utilities von Alex Taylor (von warpspace)
This directory contains some OS/2 and eComStation utilities which I find useful.

ftp_lfa.zip Update to OS/2 FTP client and server which adds large file (>2GB) support. Dated 2002-09-25; from IBM TestCase.
it_kit.zip Icon Themes toolkit for eComStation 1.1; facilitates creating your own icon themes.
pmcam2.zip PM Camera /2, IBM EWS screen capture utility. Zipfile includes both versions 2.10 and 2.08 (see README.TXT for details).
pmcamres.zip Replacement dialog resources for PM Camera /2 to make it look prettier on Warp 4 and up.
uzs552x2.exe InfoZip UNZIP v5.52 executable, unofficial build (compiled with IBM VisualAge C++ v3). Provided for completeness, although there should no longer be any functional difference between this and the official Info-Zip build.
uzs552d2.zip InfoZip UNZIP v5.52 DLL, unofficial build (compiled with IBM C/C++ v3.65).
wt_kit.zip Window Themes toolkit for eComStation 1.1; facilitates creating your own window themes.
vnc-view.zip A cosmetic update to the OS/2 PM VNC Viewer; improves the dialog layout. Also has a cleaner-looking icon. Source code (only those files changed from Akira Hatakeyama\'s original source) is available here.

New hobbes software repository server (eCs 1.2) (von warpspace)
OS2eCS Organization Purchases eComStation(tm) v1.2 - 3/25/05 @ 05:37

March 23, 2005

Today we are pleased to announce that we have purchased eComStation(tm) v1.2 for use in our new server project. (http://www.os2ecs.org/newserver.html )

This new server will host a new hobbes software repository service. The service will provide mirroring of the existing hobbes (hobbes.nmsu.edu) and be positioned to be available if the existing hobbes should disappear. This strategy ensures that this important resource is protected and that our \"eggs are not in one basket\".

Our decision to use eComStation(tm) as our base server solution is based on the reliability and security of the platform. eComStation(tm) gives us a scaleable platform that is flexible and provides excellent management abilities. At the OS2eCS Organization we are committed to utilizing OS/2 Technologies as they provide powerful solutions for our information technology needs.

We believe eComStation(tm) is an excellent choice for a server operating platform. The TCP/IP stack is BSD v4.4 compliant offering a built-in fire wall with IPSEC. The base OS/2 kernel with its highly efficient multitasking and multithreading, provides a secure-high performance base to run Internet Services. The upcoming release of eComStation(tm) v2.0 will offer an advanced configuration utility to unleash the power of the built-in fire wall. With Serenity Systems International committed to continual enhancements and support, eComStation(tm) is an excellent choice! OpenSSH/2 and Security/2 (http://os2.kiev.ua/en/sses.php)
combined with eComStation(tm) allow us to deploy a multi-user system, allowing our supporting members to administer the new services with ease.

The OS2eCS Organization is a nonprofit organization chartered to support and advocate OS/2(TM) and eComStation(tm)(TM) operating platforms using all resources at our disposal. The OS2eCS Organization is a nonaligned independent organization not affiliated with IBM or Serenity Systems International.

Our organization was created to provide support services and resources to help users effectively utilize IBM\'s OS/2(tm) and Serenity System\'s eComStation(tm) operating platform. All are invited to join us! OS/2 and eComStation(tm) are the premier choice for desktop and server systems on the x86 platform, offering unmatched performance and power!
eComStation(tm) is the clear choice for today\'s business users who demand productivity, ease of use, power and want to maximize their IT investments.

Regards,
Jeramie Samphere
President,
OS2eCS Organization

IBM Strategie für OS2 (von Uwe Jacobs)
IBM plant 2005 OS/2 support in folgenden Bereichen zur Verf³gung zu stellen:

Transition and product enhancement services: IBM offers fee-based transition services such as assessment, deployment assistance, and implementation. IBM will continue to offer a special-bid Total Content Ownership (TCO) program for IBM designated components.

OS/2 Support: IBM plans to provide Technical Support (product-specific, task oriented software and hardware assistance) for OS/2 Warp 4 Convenience Packages and for Warp Server for e-business Convenience Packages through 31 December 2006 for Passport Advantage customers with active Software Maintenance. Customers should install the latest Fix Pack or service refresh to stay current for Technical Support. Customers must maintain active Program Support to obtain Fix Packs or service refreshes. On 31 December 2004 IBM withdrew Technical Support for Java 1.1.8 and Netscape 4.61 for other than install by IBM components. Java 1.1.8 has been superseded by Java 1.3.1. Netscape 4.61 has been superseded by the IBM Web Browser for OS/2. Customers should install the latest service refreshes of Java 1.3.1 and IBM Web Browser for OS/2 to stay current for Technical Support. IBM will consider requests for fee-based hardware and device driver enhancements and fee-based OEM hardware compatibility testing. IBM posts OS/2 Warp support information to the www.ibm.com/software/os/warp/support/ Web site. Customers are encouraged to work with IBM sales to make sufficient hardware purchases during 2005 to satisfy anticipated OS/2 needs.

For customers entitled to technical support, IBM plans to work with third party ISVs to address customer reported problems. IBM posts the ISV names and products to the /OS/2 ISV Web site.

For customers who choose not to acquire software maintenance, IBM plans to offer a special-bid Service Extension (SE) for IBM designated components. Access to Level 1 and Level 2 support must be purchased and the software must be at the current service level. For customers with or without software maintenance, IBM plans to offer a special-bid Total Content Ownership (TCO) for IBM designated components. Access to Level 1 and Level 2 support must be purchased, and a private code line based on the customer\'s service level is created. TCO fixes are also generally made available through software maintenance to facilitate TCO customer update to a later service level. Refer to www.ibm.com/software/os/warp/ for further details.
